Dude, are you serious!? You've basically turned your paint job skills from real cars to scaled models. It's insanely awesome! Even my car from the factory wouldn't have this quality of paint.
45 yrs ago I used to build model cars, trucks, boats.. Revell, was always my favourite "go - to" brand and some of those plastic resin kits would sure have looked spectacular (much like yours) if only I had a airbrush instead of a soft bristle horse haired paintbrush. Streaks from the bristles were always a common problem even if I lightly coated the final application with a thinner. Oh, those wonderful smells of Tester Paints in a glass bottle!
Simple, clear, and straight down to the point without the heavily sugar-coated BS. Great video on model air brushing. Keep up the good work, Donn!!
All great advice, I been building models for 15 years and have won a few local shows and I'd be embarrassed to put mine even close to yours. You've truly mastered the art of modeling.
Hey thank you for taking the time to make this video!!
I couldnt believe it when i watched this vid. I haven't built a model in 25 years. This '67 chevelle is the one i chose to build. And we chose the exact same color.
This is the first time I've seen some of your work. Everyone says your work is amazing. Talk about an understatement!!
This is by far the best video I’ve watched for model painting. I wish he was my neighbor. Guru of painting
nice video. i finally broke down and got my first airbrush kit. I've made a lot of nice cars with rattle cans but i have to say its much easier with the airbrush.
thanks! these tips and techniques realy helped me make some of my best car finishes yet.
Fantastic work, and helpful! Thanks!
beautiful work brother
As one model builder to the next your work is top notch!!!
Hey, thanks for sharing your tips! You do great work...I really benefited from your information!
Great stuff! I recommend a small paint booth. You have a lot of overspray in the air.
very nice, now im going to buy my first airbrush kit-thanks...
That last one was amazing.. I am speechless.
MAN I have fallowed your work since the the very 1st. issue of Scale Auto I ever bought ' & I have building models for the last 45 yrs. of my life . A lot of the early ones I had built were A lot less than perfect ' no matter what I built my stupid older brother either set on fire or blew up with fire crackers . It got to the point that if I wanted to keep them ' I would build them & hide them from him ! Now over the yrs . I have got buy w/ just rattel cans & have built some impressive models ' but nothing of your skill level . Now that Im on diss. building models is all I have left to keep me from being totaly INSANE !!! sorry about the book Im sendin u . Keep rockin the models man Jimmie R
@oldmansmodels Thank you. And those colors you mix are eye popping eye candy!! Beautiful mixing is all I can say.
oldie but a goodie! thanks bro
Good old Paasche model "H". My go to airbrush for 40 years. I've spent $100s on fancier airbrushes over the years, but when I want ease of use and cleaning, and consistent results I reach for my old model "H" every time.
Amazing cars. Thanks for advices.
You are PRO! That is great. So much love to Your's models.
Awesome work!
It is my unfortunate responsibility to inform everyone that Donn Yost passed away on August 30, 2023. Please keep is family and friends in your thoughts. Thank you Donn Yost for sharing you knowledge, skill and creativity and thank you for allowing me to help share it. You will be missed.
Spectacular jobs !!! I like them very much. Greetings from Spain.
thank you mr.yost for this video i love it
@oldmansmodels
Great video, u do great looking work. I was wondering, do you use a primer on ur car bodies before u put on a base coat. Because every time I try to use a primer my paint jobs don't turn out so good. I normally don't use a primer and my cars turn out great. Any info would b helpful.
Thx
I didn't know Burt Reynolds made airbrushing videos!
The color on the Mustang is beautiful.
Where do you get your drag racing wheels because I want to build and paint a drag build supra because I am a import fan but I also enjoy working on muscle cars
Beautiful work
Great video’s my friend
Nice video and a Thumbs Up.
@oldmansmodels thanks for responding back to me. I'm working on a 1979 El Camino Car, and a 1978 el camino Model. I'm trying to build a mii me for my car and that color was what I was looking for. The actual car will be house of kolor planet green w/ house of kolor yellow candy on it w/ house of kolor yellow flakes. the flakes have been also discontinued so I have been told, but I already have them =-)
How do you get the wipers to stand out so well, do you use foil tape, please can you help
AWESOME VIDEO!!! Thanks for the education
RIP Donn.

Great video!!! Would this happen using Badger 200/0.5mm nozzle , whats your opinion sir?
EtownProd2 you are a fantastic model car builder also the model cars that you build are beautiful
I didn't build the model cars, I just did the videos. If you can, go to www.oldmansmodels.com and let Donn know. He'd love to hear from you.
I'll do that
Fantastic advice great video
Very nice paint job, like ;)
I never even thought of using wet and dry is this any good for removing dust out of top coat of paint
love the colours
Nice & sweet . Str8 to the point . Thumbs-up !
i want to learn more and more from you thank you Mr. nobuddy
where do you get the gold powder specs you put in the clear coat
early tips are still good for anyone like me working on warhammer 40k with airbrush. clean paint jobs need space as dust free as possible for a smooth finish.
of course given i paint that and in scale model i go for military aircraft....weathering is our game lol. making them look used and like theyve been in real scraps.
but i can still appreciate a showroom image for car. i have a dual action gravity feed so may take these tips on should i ever do cars again.
Hey, help needed here please. I just bought an airbrush and compressor kit. I purchased a variety of premium Vallejo acrylic paints pre-mixed thinners. My paint doesnt come out like yours so wide and free flowing. I have only a 0.3mm nozzle and waiting for a 0.5mm. I'm doing muscle cars 1:24. Am I doing anything wrong? I tried candy black which was ok but gold ran like water. I would preferably like to have mine running like this video. I'd also like to know what PSI your on because it sounds high. Thx from Canada. Not sure what I'm doing wrong.
Do u have any videos of how to mix the paint?
What psi do you run the compressor at also do you use acrylic or enamel paint?
Want to use the same methods to paint the scales on a Victorinox but want to keep the logo exposed. Is there a way to coat the logo to make it easier to remove paint and re expose it?
decals before clearcoat. helps blend the decal with the paint and helps the decal from flaking off over time.
Good Job!!
Paint looks great
How long does it take for your DVD on airbrushing to arrive. I ordered the Paasche H Set Airbrush Kit and the TC-20T Tank Compressor from TCP for $140.00. Hope I did the right thing. Thanks, Bob
do u put decals on after clear coat and polish or do u put them on first and then clear coat and polish
Great job Donn.....
As you can see here people. Possibly the first ever Airbrush Tutorial on CZcams.
How do you paint the chrome molding around the windows?
Wow...this is cool
so do you foil after or before you clear?
Simple tools, excellent results. Modelers seem to want to over complicate this sometimes.
wow they really are show car quality
It's masking tape around a pipe. Donn has a system on how to set that up. I can't explain it to you as well as he can, but its on the DVD.
@oldmansmodels That's all fine, But where did you fine the sand paper?
In this video a Paasche H airbrush was used, while I use a quite similar Badger 350. Both these airbrushes are in fact bottom feed external mix. I use an operating pressure of 30 psi (measured with trigger depressed): how much psi are used in this video?
@oneslowride does his video touch on this ?
how much do you charger for you to paint the model car's because i was wanting to know.
Question- I clear with Pledge, and can never get my models as shiny as yours, is that possible with that product?
We use masking tape in painting real Cars 2. However, there are some pitfalls to worry about. The cheaper the tape, the more likely the tape is to leave residue behind. Such as glue. Blue tape, is a multi-surface tape. It is for taping together two types of surfaces that are dissimilar. Yellow tape, is designed to trap and lock in dirt. As well as fill large voids in panels, thus keeping down the turbulence as the gun moves over the surface. My recommendation is 2 fine line with 3M fine line tape, vinyl is good for making turns. And lock down your fine line with 3m green tape. The system was created to trap your color on the edge. This is known as The Edge lock system. Your color should not bleed through the tape if done correctly. Thus making crisper cleaner lines. As it is true on real cars, it should also be true with model ones.
What paint do you use?
can you show your model car collection or is there already one
Where do you get your light green paint from
What kind of paint does he use ?
mr yost do you have a lone wolf decal for model cars if so i would to buy one thank you mr. yost wayne
what are you using to hold the body at 4:37 ????
Very nice Don 👍Keith
Still trying to learn. I just never can seem to get that smooth glossy finish..
Hi all,
I ordered both of Donn's DVDs three weeks ago but have not received them yet. I have emailed Donn through his website several times with no reply. How long should it take to receive them?
it looks like it might around40-45 psi. i have the same h series he does and i used it at that psi, it shoots pretty nice : )
siphon feed or gravity feed?
Nice paint jobs!! Now i know why i got discouraged 😲
Hmm, I'd recommend using stands for the body and the hood that are much more stable... Just in case you bump the table or something, which would be disastrous.
My hardest part about painting is flames. Does your video touch on this?
What is the model number of the paasch airbrush kit. I want to purchase one and there are many different ones on the paasch web site
Has anyone ever used the Badger Spectra -tex air brush paint
Thanks!
Ru in Edmonton Alberta? Just curious I am. Just getting started into this hobby. Thanks for the videos. I’m really enjoying them.
I have an outside shop that's quite large (15x25). I have a window a/c unit but no heat. At what air temp is too low to paint ?
Dennis Henrich the temp I like to keep my paint for painting and for drying is around 65°-70° is ideal!
Dennis Henrich 10 degrees below what your furnace is set to. Per say 25 celcius or 65 farenhite i qouldnt go 5 degrees below that even but 10 degrees at most
At 6:11 does he say the car was already clear coated? Something I don't understand is if the car was clear coated then how did he remove the scratch from the paint? Did he have to rub down passed the clear coat to get to the base coat and then apply new clear coat when finished? Unless the imperfection was on the clear coat and not the paint?
Hey what size is the 56 is it a 1.18
The Mustang fastback at 7:15 is Sweet! What company produces that mustang?
what do you use to make your tube chassis and were do you get your slicks and rims??? msg back thnx
What grit? Sand paper just wondering.
Is this a short version of a longer vid? Seemed a patched together vid with not much info and i would love to know more about this guys works and techniques. Ive got more questions than answers now....
BTW, Outstanding works man!
Mac B It is a commercial for Donn Yost's DVD. You can purchase the DVD at www.oldmansmodels.com.
