    • YAMAHA 4-Stroke Outboa...
    In this video, Josh will be doing an oil change for the upper end of a 2017 15HP Four Stroke Suzuki Outboard. This oil change is easy to do, it just takes some more time to take off the side cowling and replace the oil filter. We also forgot to include that you can run and warm up the outboard so that the oil will flow better while draining it. Make sure to change the seal around the screw when you change the oil. Of course, you don't have to, but that's what the owner manual recommends. This is also an excerpt from the owner's manual about how often to change the oil filter on this type of outboard: "The Engine oil filter must be changed by an authorized Suzuki Marine Dealer periodically. Replace engine oil filter with a new one at initial 20 hours (1 month). Replace engine oil filter with a new one at every 200 hours (12 months)."
    You can search for Suzuki Owner Manuals using the link: www.suzukimari...

    I wouldn't recommend buying the oil filter from Amazon but I included the link just in case some of the other websites close or something happens. The other links are way cheaper for buying the filter and I once again recommend that you search around on the internet to look for the company/website/price you wish to buy the filter at. Thank you!

    Josh, does the motor have to be warmed up prior to draining the oil?

    • @thecollegequarterdeck
      @thecollegequarterdeck  Před 4 lety +1

      So warm oil does flow better. So running the outboard for a few minutes can be beneficial. You would want to make sure the oil is warm and not too hot.

      We recommend looking at the manual to confirm what yours says. From what we found on page 25 it says the following about the tiller hand model:
      The Oil Change Reminder System Informs the operator of the time for replacing engine oil on the basis of the maintenance schedule.
      The system is designed to register the total operating hours of the outboard motor and function its operation when the preprogrammed hours have been reached (Refer to the INSPECTION AND MAINTENACE section and the last page.)
      When the total operating hours have reached the preprogrammed hours, the caution lamp will repeat until you cancel the system activation."
      Hope that helps! On pages 24-25, it tells you how to reset the reminder system. The manual can also be found on Suzuki's website!
