My dad has Audi a8 from 1997 and it is FWD Manual and a 2.5l TDI V6 Diesel engine and i can tell for sure that this is the best audi ever made :)
Yes screw the r8, the quattto from the engine, your 2.5 pos fwd audi is the best ever made
thanks for this i will buy one in 2-3 years. I currently have a 1994 A4 B5 1.8i currently. great cars,audi
you should have gotten 1.8t we have it in a6 c5 and its fast enough,so in a4 it would be perfect.
So it has been 3 years my guy, got the Audi A8 yet?
@@Shmubek no. Got into motorcycles in the meantime. Got it stolen. Going after those who stole it now. You never know what life throws at you lol
@@N11kon Holy shit my guy, best of luck.
The worn camshafts are the most common issue on the 2.5 tdi and also the 3.3 tdi v8. If i were not a mechanic, i wouldnt have bought one (bought a 2.5l 180hp tdi with 260k km on it). The issue with the 3.3 is having the same cam Problems as the 2.5 while also using a much more complicated common rail injection, which the 2.5 doesnt have. Also the 2.5 tdi was used in many different VAG cars, like A4, A6, Passat, Superb. So you get used parts pretty cheap, parts for the 3.3 are rare because it only was used in the A8...
that’s so good to know! thanks
If you're in the US I'd suggest buying a S8 version since prices are now low. They are rare. Only 1200 imported, around 400 for each year 2001-03. Only the 360 HP 4.2 Quattro was imported. I have a 2001 model with 167k miles, very good condition. Runs and drives very well.
is it fast by any chance?
i’m looking to get that exact make and mod it
@@xankpc It's OK (0-60 mph 6.2 seconds) but by today's standards most V6 Sedans are putting out almost as much power. If you're looking for more quickness maybe a D3 @ 5.1 seconds or even faster D4 S8 @ 3.6 seconds from 0-60 mph. But of course you'll be paying a lot more for newer generation S8 models.
If 2.5 is well maintained, it is the pretty economic engine, but U have to treat it as a diesel engine. As 1.9 tdi is the most reliable, even those was blowing up, because people doesn't understand that diesel doesn't like when U rev the piss out of it... Especially straight after starting it as the oil temperature is low and pump can't get it around , and components are not supplied with right amount of oil...
As soon as you warm up a diesel engine, you NEED to rev it, otherwise you will clog turbos and egr.
The 2.5 tdi chugs fuel lol
It's not in any way an economical engine
I presume a lot of this has some cross over to the S8 as well of the same era.
I had a 2000 A8 - unfortunately the reverse gear went out and we couldn't afford to fix the transmission, so I had to let it go 😞
I just spent 5k $ on maintenance, timing belt, fuel pump, oil cooler pipe,ac uncloging, fan bearing and still have to do cam adjusters. This car is expensive to maintain but very unique.
belts and rollers, tensioners, waterpump all genuine oem around 1500$ or more i cant remeber exactly from the audi dealer parts only.5.5h-8h labor depends if your water pump bolts will brake or not.(due every 75k miles or 8 years).
Oil cooler water pipe is 350$ labor to replace
when done with timing belt, withhout is like 7hrs labor.
I forgot to say this is s8 4.2. and i am in Chicago,IL.
Vaso Lazovic hey I'm just curious I own a 07 A8 4.2 how do you know if the timing belt is bad or going bad? Is the car just out of time and won't run?
Robert white usually it will misfire first,2007 is border year when they went to timing chain and abandoned the belt. You cant see timing belt without removing the covers.
Dont forget its due every 75k miles or 8 years(only for belt driven ones not chain)it may last to 120k but it may not :)
Vaso Lazovic cool thanks, I appreciate the reply.
Im planning on getting an 03 RS6 4.2 Bi turbo.
Is an audi a8 d2 w12 good car it has 300k kilometers on clock im not sure if it can push any further?
Hey dcr guy can u do a review on 2005-09 subaru legacy please sir.....
There was a issue with the fuel tank that i read about. As far as i know it has a fuel pump for each side of the tank and there was something about them getting weak over time or clogging up, meaning the engine would cut out when its less than half a tank full.
Supposedly really expensive and most owners dont fix it.
It has a fuel pump on one side only, but it has connection to two sides
What about an A8 d2 (1999) 2.5 tdi 150 hp quattro with automatic transmission. ..
How's the reliability of this car..
I'm afraid of the automatic transmission..
I'm looking to buy one.
I have a 2.8 AAH with a 4 speed AT...so AT dont come only in 5 speed versions
Hey, what about 2.8 v6 engines? Are they very expensive to maintain? Reliability? Thanks
Leak oil like hell but as long as you change the timing belt will run forever.
What about AUDI A8 2.8 V6 QUATTRO engine ?
What about 2.8 litre petrol paired with manual 5 speed and awd?
it's reliable, it can have only regular petrol engine issues
What about the 3.7 v8?
Got a 2.5 TDI 99 Manual w/ 532.000km
I am this car in 2.8 gasoline manual w/420.000km
Is the 2.5 Tdi good? Im asking because i am saving some money so i can buy a 2.5 Tdi A8 D2 next year
you should better buy a petrol version ;) i am looking at V6 2.8 30v facelift version with quattro and manual gear box.
@@egidijusvirkutis8890 I was thinking of the 2.5 Tdi because it doesn't consume a lot of fuel... The Petrols are probably tanks too! And personally i'm looking for a TipTronic Automatic! Hope you find your dream A8 bro! 😉
What about the 3.3 tdi v8 common rail ????
mosor alexandru expensive camshafts, Many problems with common rail , few workshops can service this engine.
What about a review for Audi 100 C4 ?
the Audi 100 C4 is generally a very reliable car, however sometimes the electric equipment is not working properly like the: alternator, windscreen wipers, window regulators or the fuel gauge, engines are relieble just pay attention to the timing belt changes then of course the regular problems as in other engines-leaks, sparkg plugs etc. The last issue can be the more worn rear axle suspension-in quattro models.
Much appreciated sir !
D2 facelift 😍😍😍😍😎😎😎💪
Someone who can help med getting a crank shaft position sensor ? Part nr 0261 210 111.
4.2 v8 (A8/S8)
Can't get inne anywhere IT looks like
tjhere are loads of crank sensors on uk ebay for early v8 d2 but not the exact same number, when this happens with mercedes it usually means the part has been updated. i would just buy one for 30 pounds of ebay for the right year v8 and try it, it will probably work
I have it in stock
That audi a8 whit 2.5 tdi engine has about 1500 kg 1.5 Tons or more i need to know that
0:20 somwhere in the eastern jungle..
How about newer 4.2l 310hp engine, is it decent ?
in terms of overall reliability ? It is. But the maintenance costs can be higher. Fixing leaks, replacing worn parts and repairing the electronics can be more expensive. So, it all depends on the actual condition of the car.
It is, but as different car review already wrote - it's more expensive. For example with timing belt you also have to change camshaft chains with tensioners - this more than doubles the price of that maintenance (around 3.000EUR if you change everything you should). Pre-facelift does not have the tensioners, so it's way cheaper (I did timing belt on my preface S8 one year ago and it was about 1.100EUR, which is still quite expensive in my opinion). I don't think that those few extra hp's worth it, but it's hard to find well maintained prefacelift D2 for sale nowadays, so maybe the facelift will be more reasonable choice anyway.
@@differentcarreview-dcr 3.7l 191kw also have these higher maintenance cost ?
@@ner436 yes it’s exactly the same in terms of maintenance but I wouldn’t recommend that engine , since it’s slower and the fuel consumption is the same
Although It’s a very reliable, timeless V8
I have a 2001 Audi s8
Sell me itttt
@@johnblaze6269 how much you got
the 3.3 TDI ?
That is a very complicated engine, if it is in a very good condition-regular maintaince, oil changes etc. then it should be ok. However if it's not in a great condition then it can be really, really expensive to fix-2 turbochargers, 8 injectors, camshafts...
what do you think about A8 3.7 1998 ? Automatik gearbox
it's a good engine with only the usual petrol engine problems
I think you will find the 4.2V8 is chain driven not a timing belt.
It has two small chains, an interlinked one each side each to drive the two camshaft sprockets per head and an enormous toothed belt from the crank to both heads.
Can you help me what to look for when buying a A8 D2 2.8 quattro manual-5?
Specific one i want: www.hasznaltauto.hu/szemelyauto/audi/a8/audi_a8_quattro_2_8-16212080
Isn't it looks cheap?
For more pics i can brawse a gov website (100% legit) based on the license plate
DO NOT BUY OLD LUXURY CARS IF YOU CANNOT REPAIR THEM BY YOURSELF OR IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A LOT OF MONEY.
In fact it's not that expensive to maintain those old D2's, only mechanical engine issues are quite pricey and of course the automatic gearbox (I've got a manual S8, so that does not bothers me:)). W140 is a completely different story...
pistekjiri w140 is much more expensive you would say?
Im aiming at a 120k km a8 facelift 1999 2.8v6 quattro - mt
What do you think?
@@Krezo200 you ended up buying it? I want to buy a 4.2L 120.000km one
xBunea Adrian no, i didnt buy it! Bought an e38 instead
