- Before we move onto 2020 let's take a look back at one of my dumbest moments of 2019.... Started as a simple fun idea to try to catch a pet for my fish tank and turned into a disaster.
Be safe out there folks. I completely regret this but figured I'd share for the sake of my viewers.

When I heard the cracking early on knew you were in trouble, remember, if it's not a solid 3" of ice, in it's thinnest spots, it's not safe to be on without being in a slide/jon boat(yes we have 1 made up for early ice fishing). But in this case, might be a better idea to wait for spring to get your dinks for the aquarium ;)

Reminds me of skating on the lake on thin ice with my buddies as a kid. The risk of falling in made it fun. 😂😂😂
I know how cold it is breaking through ice. A few years ago I broke through the ice on a small pond in my backyard up north in my area of the U.P. of Michigan. Lucky it was next to the shore only about 2 feet deep.

Frank, a few pointers if there is a next time.
1 Always spud your way out onto ice youre unsure of the thickness of.
2 Always bring a pair of ice pics to pull yourself out of the hole and along the surface of the ice, minimizing weight distribution.
3 Never touch an augur blade or its surroundings, they're sharp as razors and do more damage. Toss augur towards the shore if possible.

Glad it was not really deep water. Glad your ok now. I would like to take you out for some spring Walleye on Lake Erie if you want. Great opportunity to teach ice safety! Always check the ice first! & go with someone. Bring a rope with handles on the ends. and Check the ice with an ice spud as you walk it should be 3 to 4 inches thick. If you fall through kick and pull yourself back on to the ice. DON'T try to lift yourself or crawl back on to the ice. It will just keep breaking. Swim gently back on the ice and slide your self back to czcams.com/video/QS49wGhYwvU/video.html ice. You showed a lot of testicular fortitude by not panicking. It's a good thing you were in shallow water, I am sure you accepted the message from the universe to be a tad more cautious. Did you ever get the fish for the tank though?
you know nothing about ice fishing or falling thru.. you lie down and distribute your weight over a large area and crawl on your stomach toward good ice or the shore. its not like you are a mile out in lake erie… shore is right there. you should pop holes all along when fishing thin ice to check thickness. and bend over and physically check ice thickness with your fingers. if your hands are getting cold, you need to condition them by not wearing gloves. after a while your hands wont get cold anymore they just stop working when they are too cold. lol.
