Remember when they used to do the videos with us being walked around through their massive new building with all the codeheads working. Remember? OUCH!! roflmmfao!!!
No I am not meaning to be disrespectful of all the lives lost and negatively affected by that incident. I am simply noting that people were warned, people "knew" better than to do that, etc and still those in charge decided to be ostriches. Admitting a problem exists is the first step on the path to fixing the problem. Also I think it bears mentioning that so many of us have learned to play the Blame Game, where the fault or problem is dumped at someone's (s) feet. Blame does NO GOOD. Identify the problem, determine root causes and contributing factors, work TOGETHER to find alternative solutions that are better for everyone involved (may not be perfect, but at least better all the way around), and then implement those changes, and see how it actually works. It may work great, or not, and maybe its perfect, or maybe its just as bad or worse. Spreadsheets of data show trends, but you have to remember that in a competitive atmosphere of a game, if there is a winner, then there is a loser by definition. We all cannot get a first place trophy, that philosophy DOES NOT WORK. What I mean is that if the winners are probably happy, not all of them may be because they didn't survive, or they were sacrificed for the betterment of the team or the play, or maybe RNG just did not happen for them. Same for the losing side: maybe some felt it was a great battle that they lost, but others will only see a loss. So maybe there are happy and sad or frustrated players on both the winning and losing sides. Spreadsheets can't "see" that. And what to many of us is so very frustrating is that the game is viable, but WG seems to listen with only one ear and half of their concentration at best, to any server that is not the RU server, WoT or WoWS. Sure, they are a Russian or Belarusian based company basically (if I got it wrong, I apologize) so they make the game code able to work with their wide fan base and internet capabilities, which does cause issues with new and faster pcs and other technology advances. But they seem to have a decided blind spot where any sort of criticism is involved. It seems that they disregard the valuable constructive criticism from the better players world wide, and especially from the CC community. Maybe no one has a fix for something yet, but recognizing that there is a problem in the first place is worthy unto itself. Denying issues, and having zero foresight about changing basic gameplay mechanics that will now be partially incompatible with projects currently under development is just.... well, very poor management and/or inter-company communication. We all want to play a game that is challenging, and therefore should be rewarding too. And it seems that the developers ignore or are unaware of a lot of issues. Maybe they can survive without the international player bases and their revenue streams, but that would mean downsizing the company due to lost revenues. Myself, I rarely spend money anymore on WoT or WoWS because they keep making poor decisions that create even more play imbalances, and rewarding poor players and unicum players, and punishing those in the middle. And if they shrink and shut down the NA servers, I have other games to occupy my time, and I often do. Why play a game that is just a money pit that gives you more frustration instead of relaxation?
      Ok sorry for the soapbox.

The CV complainers are just a loud minority of mostly competitive players that never even played CVs and just dont want the game to develop into something else then the repetitive cap system. WG is trying to develop the game in a direction that mimics the actual large naval battles in the pacific a bit more with more variables like subs und carriers that change up the way a game plays out.
Without Carriers every single game becomes the same where you can already predict where the radar ships will be camping and where the DDs will be going and there is almost nothing that can deal with long range gunboat dds spamming you with HE. And alot of Ships that made sacrifices in other areas to get powerful AA like Vermont, Friesland or Halland would never have a chance to benefit from it and would become total garbage.
Also i dont get why people STILL have the wrong expectation that a CV is supposed to be on the same level as a surface ship in terms of performance instead being the powerful flagship of your fleet that its supposed to be. OF COURSE carriers are supposed to be more worth for your fleet then a small DD, thats why you have giant fleets escorting them.

When you are attacked by a DD, cruiser or BB you can fight back, you can anticipate them, you have actual actions you can take. It's going to make the game even more passive than it already is, imagine a CV and subs and deadeye and BBs won't come close to the cap all game.

Once these companies exploit affiliates or CC members to grow, they, like a bad lover, lose interest and move on to end or limit the relationship. If you want to brawl the skills could make it exceptionally better at that. Maybe you can add armor at close range and sacrifice plunging fire protection or speed. Maybe upgrade the caliber of secondary guns. Or make your ship faster and buff the accuracy but your armor is t as good. Just more customizability. There’s a ton of different stuff they could do. I'm in the CC program for War Thunder and you mentioning that "WG aren't listening at all and are just following the spreadsheets" couldn't be more relatable. We've had our fair share of CCs leave the program voluntarily recently, simply because there is such a disconnect between the devs and the community/CCs. They consistently quote their spreadsheets and statistics as to why they've balanced a certain aircraft/ship/tank while we scream at the top of our lungs that it's a mistake, and will only lead to more problems down the road. Now, most of the time it's not necessarily from a commercial standpoint and more of a "We think this is the right direction so we're doing it" and rush the idea through development and shove it into the game. It seems like WT suffers from the same issue where they have very little foresight and don't take the consequences into consideration when deciding what to implement/change. Playing the game has become a chore and it's simply because of the constant barrage of poor decisions and plain disregard for the health of the game and it's sad to see both WoWS and WT are suffering from the same issue.

Let's be real, Wargaming doesn't give a damn about the players or it's CCs being toxic as long as they can turn a buck off them. Flamu's getting kick was because he was starting to get people to notice just how shitty and manipulative WG is about it's "reworks". If it truly had been about Flamu stat shaming and being toxic then it would have happened years ago as was pointed out in the video. WG simply decided that Flamu's opinions were not helping them sell the garbage that is the current WoWs game. It is why when they kicked Flamu, his followers showered him with subs. That should send a big message to WG but it won't.

As someone who once worked in the gaming industry, I would like to point out that one of the biggest misconception is that games are made great by doing what the players want. No, it's not true. Afterall, the interests of developers and players are fundamentally different. Sometimes it may be beneficial to please the player base, but there are still large differences within the player base. It is especially difficult to tackle for games with competitive multi-player features. This is another reason why data, or “spreadsheets” are much more reliable than players’ opinions.
I don’t think WG hates subjective opinions, but if a CC, namely an “opinion leader”, openly tells WG how to make their game, with all his followers, it poses a pressure WG can’t deal with easily.

You have to remember that some of these CCs make a living off the program, so just leaving would hurt them more, quite a tricky position.

Speaking of Wargaming not listening....King of The Sea purchase is another example. No one wants carriers in competitive modes. KotS was pretty clear about this. A good carrier player on one side vs a bad carrier player on the other is very very hard to overcome.

Having been around when they punted you off of the CC program, and aware of the controversy that ensued then, I am following the unfolding tale of the defenestration of Flamu with interest. (He seems much happier, not sure why he didn't just quit like Jingles did.)

And at 4:17 into the video, iChase blunders broadside into a torpedo that was first visible at 3:13! Amazing!!!
WoW has changed the Captain skills so that people will spend/buy doubloons to change their skills to a better setup (I am not Dazzled!). Also, there are now 21 point skills available to captains, vs the previous 19 point skills captains. Once again, WoW calculates that rather than earn an additional 1 million CXP, folks will spend/buy doubloons!!!

Welcome back. Good to hear your perspective. School was kicking my wife's butt too, but she's on clinical now and loving it. Good luck. In my opinion, Flamu was kicked b/c he was speaking too much truth too often and someone at HQ got fed up with looking bad. Also in my opinion, we will look back the decision to kick Flamu in a few years as a marker where WG turned a corner for the worse that the couldn't recover from.

Your vision of the captain skill tree is what it was. If they had added skills to the tree without class restriction everything would be better. The only carrier I could ever play was Graf Zepplin (which I got in a random black friday box) with full secondaries and my Bismark captain. The more WG controls the game, the less fun it is to play. I quit two weeks ago after 4+ years, and dont miss it a bit.

War gaming and Balance = oxymoron. I have enjoyed the game since open beta but now my game play is infrequent. I think it will get less as time goes on. Certainly they are not getting any more money from me. No more premiums ships or crates coming to my dock.

  • @WintersFinalstand

CV could be fixed if they gave the cv 3 dimensional control (going super high for example to minimize flak accuracy and damage, or low for accuracy or using islands) and gave ships the ability to aim flak guns, though not with pin point aims, but instead a sort of wide dispersion, with stronger aa ships being more accurate. That way the ship shooting planes can actively fire at enemy planes and a cv can make a far more varied attack manner without having the death wall.
