  • Exploring the sneak peek of the new Peter Jackson doc about The Beatles made with Let It Be-era source material. I also speculate on a potential timeline for 2020 releases, including that documentary, the restored version of the original film, and - who knows - an box set for the Let It Be album?

What about watching John and Ringo and a fat lady eat an entire swimming pool full of spaghetti and meatballs? Yes. And I'd listen to the Beatles if they were snorting a bottle of calomine lotion mixed with Pepto Bismal, while they were making love to Melania Trump, whilst Ringo was gently but vigorously,

I just heard a little part of a Howard Stern interview with Paul McCartney, and Paul gives the film a big thumbs up, saying it really does bust the myth about any kind of decaying relationship between him and John. He sounded surprised (and happy) that Peter Jackson had found so much brightness and levity buried in the forgotten footage..
I was eleven years old when the movie Let It Be came out. Both my mom and I were huge Beatles fans, as was my dad, who was a professional jazz musician. One day she surprised me with the gift of taking me to Let It Be at a movie theater. I was already familiar with Hard Day's Night, Help and Yellow Submarine, so I was definitely struck by Let It Be's dark and dreary tone (although I still loved the music).
I'm really glad Jackson, of all people, got a hold of this project. As a kid, I was also very much into King Kong, The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings--and Peter Jackson keeps working his magic on some of my favorite sources of entertainment, lol.

Yes, there was bitterness at first. After all, John had lost his friend since childhood. But Paul's replacement Billy was quite talented. Eventually John appreciated that. After all, Billy had even written a book with the Beatles in 1964.

scotty Interesting you should say that. The Beatles, from January 2,1969~ January 31,1969 were a group in disharmony. George Harrison actually quit The Beatles on January 10,1969. John and Paul gave short shrift to George Harrison's "All Things Must Pass", "I Me Mine" and "Let It Down"!!! George rejoined the band at Apple Studios on January 22,1969 to lay down tracks and finish the "Get Back" project. John never liked "I Me Mine" and it was never attempted much less recorded at Apple Studios.John and his girlfriend Yoko Ono were filmed, on January 8, 1969, at Twickenham Studios Waltzing to the song and was disrespectfully included in the dreadful "Let It Be" movie!!! It was recorded a year later, with George, Paul and Ringo at EMI Studios in January, 1970. " George's masterpiece "All Things Must Pass" was only uninspiringly attempted once as was "Let It Down" on January 29,1969 the day before the Apple Studios dreadful rooftop concert!!! I can't believe John would be critical of George's creations when he [John] and his obnoxious no talent girlfriend Yoko Ono were smacked out on Heroin!!! I believe John and Paul were envious of George's coming up with better material especially John who had nothing but "Don't Let Me Down" and he forgot the words to that song on the Apple rooftop concert!!! John served up the dreadful "Dig A Pony", "Dig It" and the "Everybody Had A Hard Year" as part of "I've Got A Feeling". What garbage!!! John didn't even bother to bath!!! He looks dishevelled most of time!!!

I'm old enuff to remember their arrival..
I went from listening to Frank Sinatra & people like Frankie Avalon straight to The Beatles.. & life was never the same..
I always loved to show my son..
"Ya see kid. This is what we were forced fed.. to listen to every day..B4 the Beatles arrived!!
No other band can be said to have "changed the world!"
& not one other band or any type of entertainer can even HOPE to have 2 of their albums be back on the charts, 50 YEARS after their original release.
    We've admitted it. They're the G.O.A.T!
And I've we wondered, many times..
"How will they be remembered & conceived in another 50 years!?"
    Simply Amazing...
Because I'm STILL buying LP's Books, Magazines..Toys.. ugh!!!
How do you explain to someone NOT in the know.. How you own over 500 Albums from a band who only produced, what? like 13 ..!!??
& yes that # includes Solo stuff Bootlegs & related Items..
Like George Harrison being called "Horge Garrison" & shown as a cardboard cut out cuz of contracts he was unable to use his real name & likeness. .. and "yes".. truly uly (that means it's really REALLY true) I do own over 500 LP's of Beatles solo's & related... yeah..yeah yeah (lol) some are just records produced by John or George but.. they're filed under "Beatles Related" & let's take The White Album... for instance ..
I have like 12 of them & every one is different.. ie: Top Loader, numbered, numbered starting with an "A"
, White vinyl, Imports, and I have a " 0007717" & my B-Day is 7/17.. sooo it was quite the find for me. And it was at a flea market & for the 1st time ever..I didn't argue about the price.."$8.00"..
::::;shrug::: but again..years ago when u could get records at a flea mrkt and tag sales fir a buck each.. I am SO thankful I bought everything that remotely interested me..cuz with their resurgence... I'd be paying $20/$30 for most if the ones I paid a dollar for.m
My fave!? "LET IT END" Classified as a "Bootleg" but you wouldn't know by looking at it.. cherry mint.. and you'll hate me for this.. I found it at an Estate Sale..(Years ago) and I paid $1.00 for it!! I was actually shaking when I left the house.cuz at the time I had no idea what it was.. and I only owned like 20/25 Beatles LP's at that time and had to look up the guy who produced it to find out what it was.. (long Story)
But.. I know Paul has a pile of "unreleased" stuff tucked away..
Pull it out buddy We want it all!!
    Oh.. little tid-bit of nonsense..
One time a guy walked up to Sir Paul McCartney & had the nerve to say "Hey that's my stuff!" When Paul was working on releasing some tracks that were only available on Bootleg B4 he decided to have it released on real recordings.... Imagine that!?
    "Hey, that's MY stuff!"
I would have loved, and laughed to read that Paul had knocked that Tool out..ya no!? But Paul..in his infinite wisdom..from what I read.. just looked at him and said "You're Stuff!!???"
And they left us all hangin.not telling us how this ended. .. "Grrr!" & "awww!"
gawd. How I STILL miss John..!!!
OK.. bragged & bored u enuff..
    Gotta go to werkin..
    Super-Bowl Sunday.. 2020..
As the Great Neil Young once said.& still does... :
"KEEP ON ROCKIN IN THE FREE WORLD!!"

I recall sitting in a dark theater at a matinee showing of Hogg's " Let It Be " in 1970. There weren't many in the audience and I remember feeling down and depressed at the footage shown. John and Paul always liked each other until Paul went the advised route from his lawyers which caused their business split by the other 3 siding with Allen Klein. We know now how right Paul was. But this movie won't rewrite history. It will tell the real history that we were denied.

But I think they will release the original Let It Be movie in the album box set in October featuring the 5.1 mixes etc either with it on the blu ray or on a 2nd blu ray disc
Great video again, thanks! I am so excited for these releases!

In May of 1970, when I was 14 years old, I came across a copy of a deluxe edition of the Let It Be album. I didn’t even know such a thing existed, so I wouldn’t have even known to look for it. Beside the record itself it came with a very glossy, and surprisingly thick book jammed with amazing photos from the sessions, many full page size. It came in a slip case for both album and book. It seemed quite expensive at the time, in the range of $12 to $15! I never knew anyone else who had one of these or had heard of it. I felt pretty lucky, until a few months later when someone stole it from me. Oh well, Let It Be.

I think the real goal in all this, re-writing the history of the Get Back/ Let It Be Sessions, will reveal the correct release order. I think you've got it right. @@FabFourArchivist whos idea was it for let it be to go to Spector before release? Spectors stuff is kinda hit or miss to me despite his early success. His stuff with John was great. John's said Spector was given poo poo to turn into gold, so to speak, about let it be. But fly on the wall sounds good, naked sounds good. Maybe it was just a misfire. I also didn't like Spectors work on end of the century by the ramones. From my limited view it seems like Spector doesn't get some aspects of recording/mixing bands. Seems like he works better with individual artists who have a supporting cast. He does better bringing one artist to the front of the song and putting everything else behind and around it like a green screen. But he fails to make bands sound like a 3d living thing where within a song different elements can become prominent n then fade into the background or overall makeup of the song again. I can see how he'd work well with a simple rocker like John but not the dynamic Beatles and Billy Preston. Spector was in over his wig. Was glynn John's also part of it in some way? Damn too many questions..

My guess is that the Peter Jackson film will come out in October, since the companion book for is is scheduled then. And the 50th Let It Be box set and film this May. That is what I'm hoping.
By the way, I saw the film when it was originally released in theaters, and several times since. It gets a bad rap. There are only two places where there is bickering. Furthermore, it is not supposed to be another Hard Days Night or Help. It is perhaps the first of "The making of ..." documentaries. It shows them candidly. It is more "reality" than so-called reality TV.

      @johnp515 Před 4 lety

I'm looking forward to it but what makes you think they will not brush off some of the tensions? The whole point of this venture is that The remaining Beatles never wanted the original re-released because it was a tense time. "The most badly recorded shit with a bad vibe ever" is I think more or less how John described it. So The Beatles are on board if it has a positive vibe. That is possible because The Beatles, even in their lowest moments had a marvelous sense of humor which would always be there periodically, but will they get the balance right? The behind the scenes chat with Paul about John and Yoko when they were unaware they were being recorded, that obviously won't be there. Yoko has to sign off on it remember. I think it will probably go too far the other way and make it seem more positive than it actually was. I hope you're right though.

My biggest worry is that this movie will be an over correction of the myth spun by the Beatles themselves and portray these sessions as a Disney romp in the park. It wasn't. But neither was it a complete miserable disaster. It was a mixed bag really. This may be hard to catch in a feature length. Ultimately though, with knowing the challenges they had they were amazingly productive. They made an album, rehearsed loads of stuff which would ultimately end up on Abbey Road and their own solo stuff down the road, and had the roof top concert.
