- "Path of Borealis" is a remix of "Triage at Dawn" made by DJ Dain, named "That Long Train Ride," with the song title being apparently based on a note featured in a map of an early Half-Life 2 journey found in Raising the Bar. One day, a gamer nicknamed "Black Mantis" presented it on the Half-Life 2 Beta-oriented Father Grigori Forums.
June 28, 2021: I, the uploader, am not DJ Dain, the author of this remix. It took me far too long to edit the mistakes in the video title (Half-Life 2 Beta, I kept the Path of Borealis name) and description, for which I apologize. I added the paragraph above a few years after uploading this video from some Wiki. I don't remember if it was Combine OverWiki or Half-Life Wikia. I'm so glad I was the lucky first one to upload this fantastic song I copied from the newly released Obsidian Conflict mod for Half-Life 2, after which I never played it again (sorry). I apologize for giving the video the incorrect, albeit catchy, name "Path of Borealis." I apologize if I caused any harm to this song's composer or the community. I will never forget this song. It will always be in my memories. Like how things should have been.
I don’t know what will happen next. Valve released HL and HL2 as a revolutionary for the genre, and the engine respectively which spawned so many games that have endured till today. I think Alyx came out because VR was a next juncture that Valve can explore, but I don’t know what is in store in the future.

When i was a kid i wanted my dad to buy me Halo, but instead of Halo i said Half life 2, because i remembered it after reading about it in a gaming magazine.. best mistake of my life
When I was a kid , I liked to play games a lot so me and my brother would play all day long on NES but after some time my brother brought a computer so started to play games on it and I liked playing games on a different machine a lot so I told my dad to buy me a game , I didn't told him which game and he just bought half life 2...oh man I remember that day seeing Freemans face in the poster I just stared on it for few minutes then after playing the game that day it became my favourite game of all time. I have played many games in my lifetime but I didn't got the similar experience when I played half life. It's lifeless environment yet so astonishing. I just love it man

You know, this type of music I'd describe as cheery, depressing, but more than that ominous, and I honestly like it because it makes me think of how far we, as humanity, have all come. The good we've done, the bad we've spread, how we have raised our spawn, how more and better we are, how we have endured, and survived countless catastrophies.
And this track specifically, makes me think, no, it assures me that if one threat were to corner us to the very edge of our world, mankind would finally unite, and fight back with all we can. And if we are not able to win, we will make sure the rebellion forever lives.
That's the theme of Half Life 2's story, very fitting!
Picture. If you will. A story that nearly everyone in the entire world knows. A story that, despite remaining unfinished to this very day, has changed the world in dozens of ways that is practically unimaginable.
Half-Life is that story. And I hope that one day, maybe, just maybe . . . we'll be able to see it reach its conclusion.

Technically both TF2 and Half-Life/Portal universes are the same, as Aperture Science has given items to Mann Co., they do happen at different times with TF2 happening in the late 1960s and early 1970s and Half-life, Half-life 2 and Portal taking place several decades later and Portal 2 taking place much much later.
But yeah may they rest in peace.

This song perfectly sums of the emotional journey that is the Half Life franchise. I've grown up my entire life playing these games. My dad introduced them to me when I was very young. This game series is the reason I got into video gaming, into story telling, into computer building. The fact that Valve was able to create a fantastic game with amazing re-playability, but also infuse an incredibly dark and hopeful story into it as well is just...damn. Well done Valve. Half Life will always be a legendary story on our planet.

This song made me cry, not just because it's sad, but also the memories i had while playing with this song.
Back in 21', i had a PC, where i played Half-Life 2, GMOD, Ravenfield and many more games. It was a fun experience that made me to love Half-Life and it's long lasting community. One time i played GMOD with this song playing in the background while having an NPC battle going on, let me tell you, it was a lot of fun! I had good times with the PC despite the fact i kept punching it due to performance issues. My life seemed perfect, but tragedy struck.....
When me and my family moved out to their grandparent's house in February 23', we brought along the PC. However, the PC wasn't turning on, it had the wires, it had the components it needed, in fact it had everything for it to work! But unfortunetaly, the PC wouldn't turn on. It had me in tears, the times playing games has now disappeared, and it still tears me to this day..... After 8 months, i still morn the thing, because of the fond memories i had with it. I play this song to comemorate what i've had in the past. Hopefully one day, i would get a new Computer or Laptop to play those memorable games...

every time i come back to this song i end up crying... it took me so long to understand why half life is good, playing it when i was younger was just fun but now when im older im starting to notice why exacly this game means so much to gamers. just reading the comments or hearing stories about people who love this series, and how we will not know for a long time a true ending to half life... some of us already left this world before they could see half life alyx, that fact alone is tragic enough. half life is an amazing game made by very talented and ambitious game company, its success was well earned. i really hope i will witness half life 3 at some point but until then... i will keep coming back to this legendary remix that kept reminding me about us all who are still loyal to this great franchise after so many years. it trully shows how despite a game being this old and is still talked about how trully powerful a good game can keep so many fans for so long.

All we can hope for now is that in another timeline or dimension.....HL actually does take place. Before Gordon blew up the Dysonsphere, they tunnel out into a far unknown dimension. Our dimension. The events of HL don't take place and instantly skip to the 7 Hour War. Though the Vortigaunts send Gordon through aswell, to stop the Combine from hurting more souls.

This remix was on my MP3 player for about 13 years before it gave up the ghost. Every time I heard this, I got chills. There's something so Half Life about the way it's composed. I could legitimately see this being used in a Half Life game. Yes, I'm aware that it's a remix of the existing soundtrack, but that doesn't detract from this specific pieces greatness.
Valve is the only company I respect in terms of their releases. They wait until the game is good and ready before releasing it. The two reasons they decided to create Steam was that Microsoft had moved to focus on console development, believing it would surpass PC gaming. This left a hole in the market for a game distribution website where PC gamers could get almost any game they wanted. The second reason, is that they needed a passive income to allow them to create the games they wanted, to the quality they deemed to be perfect for release. Valve know they have a reputation to uphold. Almost every game they've released has changed the industry in some way.
I really feel Dr Freeman's pain in this song, realising he was the catalyst for the resonance cascade, that led the Combine to Earth.
