Chainsaw man 158 has Asa, Yoru and Fami searching for Denji, only to find a surprising trio ready to follow them, kinda. Even with people thinking Fujimoto art has gone bad. This is a review, discussion, explained, analysis, breakdown of chainsaw man chapter 158 manga.
I'm honestly more surprised by the fact that Fujimoto has given us 3 chapters consecutively, with no breaks. I don't even remember the last time he did this.

Honestly, the art style overall never bothered me. I don’t really mind it since some mangas have rough looking sketching and scribbles yet is still able to tell the story enough for the audience to follow.
So far, the recent chapter was interesting as Asa and Yoru get further in the facility. Things are picking up.
Im so annoyed that people keep crying about the artstyle. It literally fits chainsaw man so well. Like this aint mf my hero were every pannel needs to look like a Marvel comic spread. In fact chainsaw man wouldnt work if it did. The artstyle is flawless

Fujimoto honestly reminds me of Dorohedoro with his rougher line-work. Maybe he could make his artworks closer to Q Hayashida's someday? (if he _doesn't_ decide to completely quit drawing his own illustrations).

There must be things going on behind the scenes he must be tired or he has something more important to do etc. I know he can draw really good.
These last chapters have been giving more attention to characters like Nayuta, Denji and Asa. Something big will definitely happen and I can't help but be scared for them. I just need a happy ending man 🥲

I'm usually so into the chapters.I'm not even paying attention to a slip off of art quality. Until I watch a video and someone points it out. Between so many authors injuring themselves. What we see in the anime community and now one punch man going back and redrawing the last 8 chapters because they weren't happy with how they came out.I'm just glad we get chapters.

It was nice to see Haruka and Brobeni again, as they were hilarious despite the grim setting, and I can’t wait for their reaction if they actually meet chainsaw man and learn the truth.
Also, Asa is showing herself becoming more assertive, obviously because of her motivation to save chainsaw man.

Bruh, Fujimoto is literally the opposite of Gege. Chainsaw man started with the line work being much more messy and now it's the cleanest it's ever been while Akutami had clean line work that became messier over time.

I never even noticed until now the CSM doesnt have spoilers and thats just because of how engaging it is on a thought provoking level and how good the quality control is. I Disagree with the art statement i think the art has been solid all the time, everytime and hasnt reached that low point that everyone claims it has. i just think with time and impatience reading more bombastic plots has diminished the love for CSM's nuance
But part 2 is all about nuance and character. Its literaly japanese Vergito comics or Hellboy or witchblade or something like CSM doesnt try telling you its in a story it is the story
I feel like the reason why he has started to go with this more sketchy artstyle is probably because it's faster for him to draw
If you really pay attention to it, as soon as the falling devil arc started the artstyle suddenly changes
My theory is that around that point he changed the story and while before he was following sketches planned months before now he's rushing new ideas.

I believe that since the number in sales were drastically decreasing someone was afraid Fujimoto would lose his status as a huge success in the industry so they tried different approaches, one of them being bringing Denji again as a protagonist, making the story more fast paced and random and bringing old characters left and right.
What really bothers me here is that all of that could have been done way better so I also believe that some of his assistants in part 1 influenced a lot of what was going to be part 2 but since those people left Fujimoto is now alone trying to figure out what to do.
I just have this feeling something shaddy is happening in the background like there's a lot of conflicting ideas and for a while I felt Fujimoto didnt like the changes he had to make and there's sort of like a meta commentary that suggests that if you pay attention.
@@AYORoot Holy shit yes finally someone who also believe this. I didn't have time to elaborate too much in a comment but I also really felt like the church arc might mirror some kind of conflict going on in the creative process. Maybe he had planned for Asa to stay the protagonist the whole time.
And it's true that the changes started happening around the time the sales started really dropping after the slight popularity boost from the anime vanished.
imo the art style is just apart of the swag. I love how it can change to fit the tone of the panels. Also it's really cool to see how he more defines character faces in part 2. There's a noticeable feeling of change to the way characters look compared to part 1 and I feel it helps with the idea of time progression.

Chainsaw Man might get a remastered anniversary edition volume in a decade anyway.
I have the theory the story suffered sudden changes and new drawings are being rushed when before he and his assistant were following sketches planned months before part 2 started.
Curiously this drop in quality started when Denji became a protagonist again so I believe around that point the original sketches for the story were scrapped.
I ain't trusting that Gilly bastard.
He may be a Charming Man currently, but the fact that Fami seemingly can't control the bird-brain as well shows it's both an unreliable and therefore unpredictable wild-card. (if it doesn't get bodied in 3 seconds by one of the Potential Men)
Because of the art I don't enjoy CSM as much as I used to do before. CSM starting few chapters of part 2 art was PEAK.

I don’t read CSM for the art, I read it for the bat shi crazy story. The art isn’t even bad, I really like Fujimoto’s and Gege’s messier art style.
I never really noticed the change until later into the chapter but if you ask me, it’s like jjk where his art style just got different over time
This is unfortunately one the downsides of weekly manga releases. Maybe the author could switch to a monthly release like JoJo, but I don’t know how Chainsaw Man fans would handle a monthly release. Then again if the chapters came out monthly the chapters will also be longer so you get more content to read.
The manga industry isn’t known too well for having good working conditions so hopefully the author isn’t suffering at all.

I'm a big Fami fan too. Why is Fami so awkward? She is ridiculously powerful because she is a Primal Devil. Starvation is a primal human fear. My speculation is that Fami isn't comfortable in her human form. Fami says things like she is bad with faces and never cared about (human) faces. Makima also said something similar and relied on scent to identify humans and Devils. Human isn't her normal Devil form. Fami adopted a human form to blend into human society. The Horsegirls entered Earth through a Hell Gate to hunt down Black Chainsaw Man, according to Makima in the Public Safety arc. What form would that be? Checkout the ED of episode 5 of the CSM anime (Fujimoto worked closely on the anime and this is intentional). You will see the Devil forms of the Horsemen (Horsegirls). So, why does Fami run so weirdly? *If Fami's true form is a horse, she doesn't know what to do with her arms and lets them dangle. A horse uses all four legs for locomotion; a human uses two* Why does she tilt her head? Could be related to her power or a personality quirk.
Guilly wasn't mimicking Fami. Guilly tilted his head because he is too tall for the hallway. That hallway is likely between 3 to 4 meters high. Guilly is tall and if its height is the same as a real world guillotine, it would be 4.6 meters or 15 feet high.
I don’t have any problems with the Art Style in Part 2, just like Tokyo Ghoul Re:. As long as the writing is good, I’m able to stay on board with the direction Chainsaw Man is going. I do hope it doesn’t end up like RWBY where the characters act stupid for the sake of plot, a huge number of plot holes appear, a s**t load of retcons and questionable character motives, Chainsaw Man is fine with me.
I've just recently started reading Manga because I've gotten to the end of all of the Anime that I'm currently interested in. After reading all of JJK, HxH, Chainsaw Man, OPM, MHA, Berserk, and Demon Slayer in the last few months, I definitely agree with the change in pace and quality of Chainsaw Man, as well as many of the others I just mentioned (JJK currently). The only one so far that I've noticed absolutely no drop in quality or chapter length/pacing is My Hero Academia. I'm only halfway through but it has been 100% consistent so far. It does make me wonder why there are such vast differences in quality and pacing from chapter to chapter in a lot of Manga.

Honestly what bugs me about the art isn't the look itself because it can be a style as it is right now if only the background were lined with the same thick and semi-angular lines he's using for the characters.
I'm sure assistants are the one in charge of that, so it would be nice if they at least try to emulate the look so that it wouldnt look like the characters are cutouts placed unto a per-existent world.
I'm a fan of HxH and was checking the Chimera Ant Arc while it was updating so I've seen the most sketchy doodley chapters and was fine with it, but in this case the difference in style between BGs and characters just looks jarring, and to this I blame the editor for not doing anything about it
As someone who went to school for arts, it never bothered me when things are a more rough way...I find it very strange that non art people are the most vocal about it

I feel like there's still A LOT to unfold in the series, and it will keep going for at least 100+ chapters. Too many character arcs inconcluded, things are JUST about to get interesting, slowly including dire situations and putting denji through a test. Everybody thought that nothing was happening overall untill barem appeared, which has happened very recently.
Keep in mind that there's still 6 MONTHS left in universe untill the date of nostradamus' prophecy.
I think the restriction might be the starving of the devil, since devil needs bloods to survive and regenerate, if they are starving maybe it makes them slightly weaker

The artwork, and story for that matter, have been rough imo ever since we ended the Falling Devil Arc. Some chapters are better than others. It's impossible to know exactly why this is happening. Right now all we can do is speculate. All I hope is that Fujimoto is doing well enough health wise.

For me, Csm art style downgraded a little bit, not so much but it's still a downgrade, like compared to part 1, the art was actually super sick and felt fast paced, this current art style makes fights look slow imo.
I'm one of those who complain about art style. Well, complain is a bad word, but it takes me a little out of my reading. I would like Fujimoto to take a big break, I think it would do him good... because the more time passes, the more his features get bigger, even if there are certain chapters that are better than others.
As for the current plot, even if Fujimoto takes his time, I enjoy my readings. I can't wait for Asa to discover that Denji is a chainsaw man. It’s going to be phenomenal.

Chainsaw Man has ALWAYS went through phases of chaotic, scratchy art. There is an off puttingness to it that feels very intentional to me.
His art definitely has dropped a little in quality. But I read JJK religiously and that’s starting look like toddler scribbles so I’m not complaining

And as we know the manga industry treats its artists like they’re less of a person, so I can give a pass on Gage's art looking bad and choppy at times. Which leads to my firm belief all manga should be month-to-month. if you want to look at a manga with consistently good art, look at Records of Ragnarok

Later on in the story denji meets the hybrids from part 1 siri mugo barem spear whip where they reside at the chainsaw man church quanxi and katana man returns but reze hasnt and apparently yoshida and fumiko cut up denji

Fujimoto never drew good action panels, when it involves the human body. Hes a beast with gore, but action never really felt as fluid as other mangakas
