Unfortunately this song has never, and will never be performed live. Tuomas has stated that this was him at his most angry state after the breakup. He no longer feels this passionate anger and feels it would be inappropriate to perform it live. It is obviously directed straight at Tarja and especially her husband. The drawn out ending is I think representative of the chaos and turmoil created in the band from this situation. "Have a damn good day"! Peace.🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Yep. As I understand it, when it comes to Tarja, Emppu has buried the hatchet, Marco has even performed with her on the same stage and Floor is currently good friends with her. Even Tuomas, though I doubt he is on an _exchange friendly xmas cards_ level with her, has been in touch with her a few times. So yeah, this song will *never ever* be performed live.
I really hope he brakes that promise. I don't care if it doesn't match with the current relationship or emotion. The world is full of back stabbing bastards he can think of when performing. I would love to hear it live and I'm not alone for sure. Maybe it will never happen but one can hope.
I thought it was performed first few shows of DPP tour? Also I heard there was a lawsuit from Tarja ('s husband) about the song and also Bye bye beautiful - sorry I don't know how its said in english but essencialy they sued that the songs are badmouthing Marcello and Tarja? The band lost and they are not allowed to perform it anymore? Wonder if thats truth?

@@Thorgrim247 Oh thanks, will remember that :) Who knows, maybe it was known in finland at that time, if it happened. But I thought if it was truth, the songs would get banned from the radio as well, yet both are still normally played around here, so I'm not realy sure.

Oh man. That ending had some of the coolest implementation of brass I've heard in metal. 15:15 trombones, 15:25 trumpets, 16:42 french horns. One of my favorite aspects of symphonic metal is when the orchestra enhances the intensity/aggression of the song.
The brass section is the original heavy metal.

Bye Bye Beautiful was written as a letter to Tarja....Master Passion Greed was written as a letter to her husband Marcelo as mane in the band felt he changed Tarja for the worse.

This band loves concept albums - for goodness sake the album ends with Meadows of Heaven and opens with „in the end the songwriter‘s dead“
The more I listen to it, the more I realise that Dark Passion Play as an album is the 5 stages of grief in musical form, in the rawest, most emotional way... it might still be my favourite Nightwish album to date, Annette singing or no!

I am not sure how many countries actually have a second day of Christmas. In the Netherlands we have Christmas Eve (24th) and two Christmas Days (25th and 26th). And this year even an unofficial third Christmas Day on sunday.

I lived in Germany (close to the Dutch board actually, Nijmegen was a close city) and they have a second Christmas day as well. I'm from Brazil and it was a thing here like 70 years ago, I told my grandpa about that tradition and he said they used to do it when he was a kid but it got lost over time.

Just like a cook creates a perfect meal Nightwish always present a masterpiece of a musical menue and it tastes wonderful. There is no style in music I love more than that of Nightwish ♡♡♡
In case you're wondering, Nightwish did in fact employ a full live orchestra for this album.
"Dark Passion Play" is still one of the most interesting albums musically, it gives me chills and makes me more emotional than any other album. The anger, pain, loss and search for happiness is present in every note and I love it to bits, I was not so fond of Anette's singing but nothing can beat this album.
Marko's voice in this is so amazing and the lyrics just nails it down, the anger is clear and it is a shame that we will never experience this live, but sometimes you just need to let the anger out and then let it rest. I suspect that this is what happened to this song, Toumas wrote it and when it was recorded the anger was played out and he was at a better place.
It is the top of their album list (IMHO), with Imaginaerum close second.

I remember being a bit unsure about it when it first came out, but I now consider DPP to be Nightwish's best album. The, well... I guess it's best described as dark passion... of the album is just fantastic, as typified by songs like this - even if they maybe went a bit too far with the lyrics at times. And while I don't think she was great doing older Tarja era songs when they performed live, Anette was spot on for the two albums she recorded.
Definitely hope to see you react to more from this era of the band.

Nightwish has such an incredible and extensive back library that doesn't see any live play and in my opinion covers some of their best work. It'd be great to see you tackle a couple more albums the way you did Human :||: Nature. Dark Passion Play, Once or Wishmaster would be so damn cool.
