    I’m 52 and I live in Australia and I’ve been wearing sunscreen every single day since I was 18 years old. I stopped laying out in the sun since I was 17 years old.

    Thank you for this video, I had a very small spot on my leg that would get nicked when I shaved and it would have a burning feeling when I scratched it. Went to my Dr. She took it off in the office and sent it in and it came back as cancer . I’m glad I trusted my gut feeling .

    This was SO helpful thanks for putting this together. I also enjoy your reels on toenails and fingernails. I solely started putting on sunscreen daily due to your videos (EltaMD). My facial lady told me about it months ago so I bought one but thought she was just upselling me, so I didn't take it seriously until I started watching your videos. I couldn't get rid of dark spots under my eyes after several chemical peels and a dermatologist told me about Melasma but they prescribed me too many products, so I left it alone because it was all too confusing but with the daily sunscreen and moisturizer usage, things are slowly getting better. One of my toenails is also fairly dark but I've been changing all eating habits and using fungal creams, so I hope it gets better. Your videos are fun, light and informative. Keep up the great work!
    I'm also curious on your thoughts about Kojic Acid and Turmeric mix to help with dark spots? There's many TikTok videos on facial wipes and soaps with this mixture that people are praising.

    Had skin cancer, my doc caught it early. I live in Canada and there are almost no Dermatologists , its terrible. No one wants to do this profession anymore or they go to the states. More Money to earn in the states. So what do people do? They remove it themselves. With Nail clippers sissors you name it.. Crazy !

    • @Jess-737
      @Jess-737 Před měsícem +3

      The states has a different set of problems. Thanks to our glorious helath care system ( 🙄) it costs an arm and a leg to get anything checked out. I had one suspicious mole checked out and removed. After it was all said and done I got the bill for $700! When I asked why so much when they said ahead of time they accept my insurance, they said it’s because the insurance is only accepted by some teams but not others (between the derm doing to the removal, the labs doing the biopsy test, etc). With bills like that, the chance of me getting future problems checked out are slim. $700 for a false alarm 😑

    I had a Spitzoid melanoma that arose in an old scar from a nail puncture that had been on my elbow 12 years. Thought it was a granuloma until it became intensely itching. Thankfully no metastasis and 6 years later I am still cancer free post removal and free flap skin graft from my upper arm!

      Hello! Thank you for watching and great question. It can be tough as you will have to do your research beforehand and always good to check their social media pages out to see their interests and their style of educating/counseling. I would def look at credentials which is usually readily found online. I can def do a quick section of this in another video 👍

    I’ve had 3 squamous cell carcinomas. One on my leg I thought was a boil..removed. My temple had a small flaky patch of skin… removed easily by plastic surgery. My last was a tiny bit of flaky skin on tip of my nose. I was using RetinA so I moisturized.. it kept being flaky. My doctor said it was nothing… but I went to the dermatologist after 2 more weeks of tiny flakes. Biopsy showed squamous cell again. Had to have 2 MOHS surgeries and plastic surgery..the whole tip of my nose was removed down to the cartilage. So just a bit of flaky skin that doesn’t heal-get it checked!!! I’m getting checks every 6 months now and paying the price for all the sun I got when I was younger. Most of your aging comes from the sun.
    Cancer and advanced aging… what else do you have to hear before you use sunscreen?
    I wish I had known. Make a trip to the dermatologist a part of your annual checkup.

      I’ve had a few basal cell cancers removed as well as squamous cell. Tons of suns exposure and used tanning beds for years. I wish I could take it all back, but now I have to get checked often and I’m glad I haven’t gotten a melanoma!

    • @Barb6106
      @Barb6106 Před měsícem +1

      @@cindysharp4466 amen to that! I had a checkup last week and nothing new to see.. (whew!) .. but I told the dermatologist ..I know he says skin cancers, if caught early, are usually the “best” cancers🙄😬… but that word ‘cancer’ changed my life. I consider myself a bit of a health nut, and that diagnosis instantly changed my life…I felt so vulnerable and human!! The dismissive diagnosis-telling you that you are FINE and no need to worry about-blah blah… I heard none of it! I stopped listening at “cancer”. This last one, being such a front and center surgery, really put me in a funk for the longest time. Like you, the realization that I have myself to blame for this, added to the frustration and sadness..
      Now I am better..and he is happy with all my preventative steps. Getting a handle on being careful is my new busy work!
      I wish you peace and good health in your future. Stay vigilant and well💕

      @@Barb6106Hi! I feel the same. My dermatologist wasn’t very dismissive, he actually scared me to death lol. I wasn’t worried with the first 2 and then he said I’d likely keep getting them as I have damaged the dna. He did say to take Heliocare and vitamin D+k2. I have a check up in May. Fingers crossed! Take care and be well 😊

    There is another skin cancer that appears as eczema. My nephew at a very young age, was diagnosed with eczema by two doctors. The third one decided to do a biopsy. He has to have mustard and light therapy. I'm so glad my sister followed her gut feeling! I don't remember the name of the cancer but they told my sister it is rare and that is why the other doctors assumed it was just ezcema.

    I am asian. Was obsessed with tanning beds for a couple years when I was in my 30's. Then came to my senses. I went to Las Vegas skin and Cancer for a mile check and the crappy PA-C did not utilize the dermascope. 😳👎🏻🥜 I could not get out of there any faster and filed a complaint and they didn’t do shit. Never going back!

    • @JillKnapp
      @JillKnapp Před měsícem +1

      Instead of filing a complaint, did you ask, "Is this the type of mole that warrants a closer look with a dermatoscope?” Maybe the very obvious answer (to a dermatologist) is No, which explains why they didn't use one. But instead you assume you know more than someone who went to medical school because you watched a very generalized video.
      Sometimes a mole is just a mole.
      This is like going to a restaurant and filing a complaint that your chef didn't use a whisk... even though you ordered a salad.

      @user-ix4sq7pf3c Před měsícem +4

      That's so annoying! Why even do a skin check with out a derma scope. At my last skin check Dr
      Sugai checked this weird little mole that had shown up out of nowhere and over time had gotten bigger with his scope and he was saying it looked more like a seborrheic keratosis like I usually have. I told him I had a bad feeling about it since I was over 50years old and you aren't supposed to develop new moles after that. He cut it off and sent it to be biopsied. It was cancerous and he had clean borders so I should be fine! You HAVE to be an advocate for your self and get the treatment you need. Skin cancer is no joke!
