  • Hello all!
    This is a repair video of a Sundown Audio SFB-2000D output section. The trick about these boards is the fact that there are no factory markings on the IC's or the transistors. It's a guessing game! Understanding voltage and current will help to determine the right parts to use.
    Thank you David for your business!

      I have had one of the 5 channel amplifiers in. I may have put a video out on it but I can't remember. The one I had in had a burnt trace at the edge of the board around the class D section. • @ellensburgamplifier

      The drive topology is what dictates the transistor. It takes quite a bit of trial and error to incorporate a different transistor that is stable with minimal changes to the resistance and capacitance of the circuit.

    • @ellensburgamplifier
      @ellensburgamplifier  Před rokem +1

      @@kymcochran5581 Transistors can be a nightmare to locate. I work with several distributors to get what I need. There are several key specifications that you should try to match. Rds on, capacitance, speed. You will know when you are close as the transistors will not heat up when you start it. If the specifications are too far off it will heat up almost instantly or it will start to heat up significantly under load. Watch the scope as it will tell you a lot about how the gate circuit is reacting to the transistors. I don't suspect you will damage anything but of course if you are too far off on specs you will damage the drive components.

      It is possible to get into clipping at 1 ohm depending on several variables. I will usually see clipping when there is a drop in voltage or available current. I doubt a bad input but could be a high input voltage? It is hard to say what the issue could be without knowing a lot of details about your system.

    Hello Sir, I could certainly use your help. First I bought this amp, the sfb 2000. During initial install my helper wired power and ground backwards. I was running wires under hood. Anyways hooked up the power and immediately burnt up the amp. Ok then I went to local Sundown dealer and bought same exact amp. It was working fine until clip light stayed on constantly. So I have $600 invested and no sound. My next step is to replace output transistors in burnt amp into clipped one. Never done it before, but I'm confident I can swap them out if in fact that's the issue. Can you give me some advice or suggestions? How much do you charge to repair them?

    • @ellensburgamplifier
      @ellensburgamplifier  Před 3 lety +5

      Hooking an amplifier up backwards just takes out the power supply. The clipping is more than likely an output transistor but you would need a scope to verify the drive. If you were to send both in to swap parts then you are only looking at a labor and load test fee of aprx. $25 otherwise transistors are $4.75 each installed.
