  • In this installment of the Project ECHO Pain Management series, the pain management team members explore the effects of Sickle Cell Disease and popular drug treatments. The vascular damage associated with this chronic illness makes this an important condition regarding the management of pain symptoms. In regards to Sickle Cell, there are also numerous factors to consider including stress, acute pain triggers, and chronic pain modulators. When discussing popular drugs in pain management, the focus of this presentation is Kratom, Opioids, Marijuana, and Acid. Kratom can be the most efficient as it can act as both a stimulant and a sedative. One thing to keep in mind in regards to drug therapies is the threat of substance abuse; especially with the likelihood of multiple drug abuse. This means important considerations and perspectives on drug screens and prescriptions.
