Im sorry but all this vans stuff put together fails to come close to the quality of one 10 minute video of the montpellier spine ramp vid. Forgive me lack of knowledge but are these guys like a rank below that comp? Or whats going on. You can only see so many no handers and tabletops before you get hella bored.
Been thinking about this too and here’s my takeaway- in that spine comp, guys were trying to push as many, complicated tricks into one run, and it was very raw because it was just a spine and mini ramp, so there were less obstacles. These events to me seem like the idea is less is more. It’s more about interpreting the bowl and finding new lines, mixed with classic style. While Corey Walsh isn’t throwing down a triple whip air, he’s clearing gaps that are mind boggling and so smoothly. Overall I enjoy the vans events more because of the deep appreciation for the aspect of style and going big. While it’s cool seeing “worlds firsts,” as a Bmx rider myself watching these riders are more pleasurable, because I feel like I can understand what they are doing. Watching FISE events are fun, but less fulfilling. the riders look like robots sometimes.

Think of the Van's pro cup as a different discipline of riding. There's park, which you are referring to, dirt, street and this, which is bowl riding. Bowl riding is all about style and huge air. I personally prefer this to the other stuff. I get bored when I see whips and bars constantly. These guys are on another level when it comes to bike control, speed and height. They're going 5-10 feet higher than the strictly park guys. For me, the Van's pro cup represents the core of pure bmx.
