He takes those things and applies his own thinking to them as intelligent people do. Not to mention if you're worried about what he teaches in academia, hardly anything in a scientific sense is original. New discovers that are truly significant are extraordinary rare. These things can all be true at once. He needn't have one particular specific philosophy that he's learned from someone else the point of philosophical thinking is to think outside of the norm of what is. I’ve found this to be true with colleges in the U.S. too… Both for my bachelors degree in psychology and an associates degree in substance abuse counseling. You’re not allowed to have your own values, or to act on your own values. Not only that, it’s like they’re requiring that you be a “social justice advocate” for your clients to even graduate. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s an outright requirement very soon! I wish they would follow their own rules and keep THEIR “values” out of their professional work.

I’m in podiatry school run and he’s spot on- clinical instructors at Kent State Podiatry told us that we are to use preferred pronouns, names etc. Many of us are conservative and won’t go along with it- not to offend the patient but rather to not contradict our own conscience. We have to fight.

Dr Peterson I am an old Irish man not of your education level but have lived long enough to see what is happening in the world now and to you as I write this, has deeper roots and a life span that probable no one could imagine. My father was born in 1906 and lived to the age of 94, he had warn me back when I was a Mer lad of all of what we are seeing and feeling now. He told me the same thing about speaking the truth as you told your daughter. It has (SPEAKING THE TRUTH) of all things I have learn in my life to be what has sustaine me in my life. People have called me crazy, ridiculed me and shun me, but I have been strong and determine not to be overcome by them just because I spoke the truth for all these years. If I may say, be aware of your anger but do not loose site of it because it can be a good tool to have. I want to wish you as so many have the best in your feature travels in life, thank you also for the millions of people you have helped to open their eyes to the truth about things what they can be in life as my father did for me.

I went through something similar as a pastor, unfairly accused of, well, nothing specific, but rejected by progressive peers, unsupported by leaders in my congreagation, and "tried" by a commission empowered by the denomination, and forced to resign. It was awful. But I had a supportive family, some good friends who encouraged me, and some colleagues who stood by me. That was so helpful. But what kept me from descending too far into the pit was 1) clarity about my calling and determination to find a way to continue. 2) clarity about the truth, (including my own contributions to the mess), and 3) knowing I would answer to God. The Lord stood by me. And Dr. Peterson, may the Lord be with you in your upcoming day of trial. Oh - and I'd love to see you licensed in Florida!

I trust this man for a compelling reason: he has lived through the depths of depression, enduring its harrowing challenges, and even found himself in the darkest abysses of despair. I’m a licensed counselor and it’s maddening what the modern education system has done to this field. While also stifling and crucifying any differing opinion or growth. There are many opinions of Peterson, and you may not agree with his political views. Nonetheless, his understanding of psychology and success as a psychologist is next level. His resilience over the years is also admirable. Keep pushing through JP 👍🏼
I believe that what is interpreted as his “political views “ are what I call Primary Pragmatism. A sort of “separation of the wheat from the chaff” as it were. The difference however is that the majority of the volume are the feelings and opinions that are manipulated by the demagogues are the chaff, and compose the majority of the volume, whereas the Facts are in comparison quite lower in mass. Simply put the majority of the discussion is B.S. and once the B.S. is taken out of the equation we are left without an uncomplicated and undeniable set of Facts that should show us the clear path forward. I'm a clinician grappling with these same questions. I see the value, at least at a basic level, of having licensing organizations to hopefully weed out the most deranged clinicians and protect the public. At the same time, I find myself more and more embarrassed to call myself a "psychotherapist" let alone a "licensed clinical social worker". Even when I went to school some years ago the intellectual integrity of the field - even at Columbia University - was an absolute joke. I was enraged they took a dollar of my money for that Mickey Mouse "education". But now it's transformed from "a field that mostly does a mediocre job" to "a field that believes it should also 're-educate' people, even against their will". On the one hand, I'm immensely proud of my work that fundamentally respects the integrity of the individual soul, but on the other, I feel completely ashamed of this field and am loathe to even mention the credentials I spent so much time working for.

It's the same in many other fields, but when you're specifically working to help people with their thoughts and behavior, being allowed to speak the truth is hugely important. I didn’t get to go to college, so at age 60 I’ve been listening to a lot of Dr Peterson’s videos. I am also doing the self study journal. It has changed my life so much - an amazing learning experience plus self discovery. I would have been thrilled to have him as a professor. I don’t know how he can go back through that horrible time emotionally but if he is to learn from his own teachings, he knows he must. Thank God for his perseverance and bravery because in this important business of defending our freedom of speech, he can articulate what many cannot. He’s a powerful positive force that is keeping all of us from being swallowed up by this great whale.

He calls hell a place of “outer darkness” (Matt. 25:30), comparing it to “Gehenna” (Matt. 10:28), which was a trash dump outside the walls of Jerusalem where rubbish was burned and maggots abounded. Jesus talks about hell more than he talks about heaven, and describes it more vividly. @@matthewheadland7307 For me to tell you whether the realisations and conclusions of JP are true and to what extent would be like Da VInci's brush cleaner telling you whether he meant to bring the Mona Lisa to life 😂. The man is about as advanced as you can get in the profession, I'm only 3 years into it. However, I can tell you that during those 3 years, I have certainly seen aspects of the concerns he expresses about the future of professions like Psychology. I've never caught the man out on a lie, interpreting some facts in unique ways yes, but If you've read the books you know how he feels about lying.
@@matthewheadland7307In the northeast U.S. for a grad degree in clinical mental health counseling your curriculum is pretty much 1A: therapy training 1B: social Justice. In order to make it through the program you have to affirm overtly leftist beliefs about gender and antiracist/critical race theory or you can’t become a licensed clinical mental health counselor. I can’t speak for clinical psych programs.
@@amostlyreasonableguy That's absolutely appalling. How can a therapist challenge their clients to think if their own understanding of what they practice is so dogmatic and biased? I'm in the UK, so it's nowhere near as bad as that here..yet. My undergraduate degree was set up to heavily appease social justice warriors with typically leftist views and a need for safe space environments. Every debate descended into a farce, and no real discussion could ever be had on anything controversial for fear of triggering anyone in or within 5 miles of the building. Discussions on Jung and Peterson were met with suspicion, although referencing their work in assessments was never marked down to my knowledge, so I suppose that's something. It wasn't the experience I expected, and the pandemic really didn't help that, but I remain undeterred and ready to start my Masters.
