Optimus Prime - Transformers Armada

- For my 250th I have decided to review a figure that has actually caused me physical pain and damaged my home. This figure is what happens when gimmicks dictate the engineering of the toy. Needless to say, it's crap.
- Krátké a kreslené filmy
I find it funny how his shirt has a burnt autobot symbol, and this figure has burst into flames.
the irony is ironic.
My man complained about the fire hazard and two seconds later proceeded to run the motors before untabbing the trailer thus stressing them.
Because Balt is kinda terrible
I noticed as armada and energon go on he it's go on he eventually just ditches the trailers and just start using Wingsaber, Jetfire, Omega Supreme, and Overload to combine with.
Yeah, I've noticed that too, even RID 2001 Optimus did the same thing with Ultra Magnus
i still come back to this video because of the priceless way he delivers the phrase "TRANSFORMERS... ARMADA... *OPTIMUS PRIME*"
JobbyTheHong brought me here-
I was going to ask how it caught fire, after watching the review, I can see how. Great idea Hasbro.
webdesigner18 how did it???
The trailer opened by the cab giving off a signal that any remote would give off. So it probably overloaded the signal receptor and caused it to overheat resulting in fire.
@@webdesigner18 If I find one of these and I buy it. I'm just going to take the batteries out if it has them
@@DanSurgeYT Good call.
@@webdesigner18 I’m gonna transform that trailer once just to get the gun out. But I’m gonna do it outside with a fire extinguisher nearby and pray to God that it doesn’t catch fire
The reason the thing caught on fire was probably because you forgot to unpeg parts of the trailer and the resistance screwed up the motor and thus aught fire.
A toy that can catch on fire from basic user error is not a good toy. Hasbro were legit lucky that Balt Sr. didn't sue the pants modes off them.
Every once in a while, I like to double back and re-watch this review. Nothing to say that hasn't already been said about the review itself. I watch it because it's a pretty in-depth review of one of my favorite Transformers toys ever made. I've always loved this thing and never had a problem in the world with it. Armada Prime in general is just one of my favorite incarnations of Optimus, and is #2 on my list of Transformers that I've always wanted to see get the 'Masterpiece' treatment. I would LOVE to see Takara produce an MP Armada Prime, and one reason is because of this review. I think I'd really like to see a redemption of sorts for this guy in the eyes of Spada.
Try fans hobby mb 15 naval commander, It's an mp scale armada op
if only we could transform the trailer manually
Glad hasbro isn’t including any stupid expensive gimmicks any more.
Agreed! They could have just put a single button on the trailer to open it up,
instead of that god awful battery engineering.
@@derjon5 WHAT ABOUT THE FUN ONES YOU IDIOT?!
@@dexterdexter8208 Well, there is the Cyber Key gimmick from Transformers Cybertron/Galaxy Force. Or the electronic lights and sounds in Energon Shockblast and Sixshot for example. Those weren't fire hazards.
@@derjon5 yeah now we just have 500 flavors of G1
*Leg pegs visible the entire review*
He mentions them at about 16:20 but says they don't work. Probably warping misaligning them.
@@StSubZero09
@@tylerpage1320 Ah right, that was the spot. Thank you kindly.
I loved this Optimus and was rather fond of Sparkplug. It was one of my favorite minicons. I also never had any troubles with mine causing any heat at all
I like the idea of the transformation of the trailer with the sensor
yes it is a good idea, but it couldve been executed better
The trailer and the truck look both amazing. It pays perfect homage to the style the Armada show had.
It's only good with Jetfire. as you stated. the prime part is good with other figures. which also includes overload.
It's actually sad, because I loved Armada Optimus Prime in the show.
But knowing the toy is so poorly designed that it becomes a fire hazard,
makes me glad I never owned that toy. 3rd party Armada Optimus is way better! Since everything is manual.
@@nine_tails137 The bendy supercon figure was nice though. Especially if you couple it with the leader versions gun for ps2 video game vibes. Overrun was a cool target master minicon. I did love sparkplug too
@@AfterAllWeAreHuman I never owned any Target Masters, so I wouldn't know?
@@nine_tails137 armada technically had a couple. The prowl minicon, the requiem blaster is kinda one, overrun and runover were for the nemesis and bendy prime figures. That's all i can think of haha.
@@AfterAllWeAreHuman I do know what Target Masters are. They're mini figures that become guns for larger figures to wield. I just wish Hasbro had designed Armada Prime a lot better.
The base mode's transformation makes it sound like you're using a blender
No offense dude, but I seriously doubt when the trailer transformed it caught on fire. I had this a figure back when I was a kid. Whatever the trailer transformed, it never caught on fire for me. What most likely happened is you got a defective one. That's what I believe happened.also, I know understand that there is very little articulation when this toy is in super mode, but it's still a good toy to me
Most likely, your version is newer. I think the version that burn his house may had been reissued, given the kind of accident he had probably came out a couple of times (He may be the only one who had his house burned for it, though).
+Richard Surraco good point
According to what I heard, he got a trouble for the automorph of the trailer. The gears got stuck and the engine overheated. Given the kind of engine for that kind of job (before you ask, I have some knowledge in electric engines), the heat it got was enough to melt the plastic and probably to ignite if a spark surges... like the grinding of a gear, for example.
+Richard Surraco, if i were to go after him today, how would you advise i keep his trailer in shape, autotransform operable and not let him be a living fire risk?
good day sir +Landon Sirmans, Just a question can you transform the trailer part manually without using the Infrared, I know this is a very old video, Thanks
I'm beginning to think Beast Wars is the odd man out when it comes to leg and arm articulation. Primus bless ball joints!
They still sucked
We need a third-party version of this
Prediction Master
always loved the part that the trailer transformed by it self, though my prime had part pop off. a shame no third parties didn't make a better leg/trailer with out the gimic

I loved that toy, sure it lacks articulationlation but it makes up for it in playability. I would love to own it again.
You know it's bad when the Deluxe Class is a better figure than the Leader Class. (my fave is the Nemesis variant)
16:24 There are 2 pegs on the leg pieces that peg into the sides of the trailer... I think you may be a bit too harsh on the figure, sure it's pose-ability sucks, but still, they tried something new, what's wrong with that?
The fact it almost burned his house down.
He was being too harsh on the figure because it nearly cost him his house.
Great to finally see the legendary figure that we've heard so much about on the podcast. (^o^)
I had this version for years, I did use the batteries for the base, but then decided to just transform it manually instead (it worked better for me if I did it that way), plus, in the super mode, if you pull up the little clear piece for the super mode body to lock in place, it would be perfectly secure.
I can understand your dislike for this armada version and I respect your opinion on it.
This was one of my favorite armada toys that I got as a Christmas gift years ago, and now I’m going to give it to my friend who has been wanting one for years to have.
“Started grinding and burst into flames” What in the name of god?! I would never in a trillion years think a transformer toy would be able to do that. What the hell was hasbro thinking
My first Transformer and it'll always be my favorite.
I remember the story about this figure from back in Tfwire days. You used to talk about this thing all the time! Speaking of which, I just went to the site and saw the April fool's episode. Listening to it now! It feels so nostalgic! (Don't know if I can even say that for something not even a year gone)
also, in Pants Mode, the legs do peg into place. you just have to push them together with a little bit of force
the back is empty for combining with Overload, who becomes shoulder mounted cannons
you can change the trailer manually without consequense. I do that all the time and it has not worn out
only complaint about mine is that the shoulders are sagging after repeatedly combining w/ other TFers, namely those it was not meant to combine with. but it is still holding strong
Even if you get it with the trailer, you could take the batteries out and keep the trailer as it is. I think the complete vehicle mode looks alright and without the sensor activation gimmick it could be a pretty normal if meh Prime figure.
Awesome to finally see the object of so many rants! I still remember listening to that TFWire episode back in the day before I was huge into collecting thinking I hadn't missed much since G1 except for combustible toys! Thanks for sharing.
Hey @Baltmatrix, have you looked into MB-15 Naval Commander? They fixed everything bad from this figure on MB-15!
Come on Takara hurry the f up with that updated Armada Optimus Prime so we can forget about this brick
in "pants mode" the side pants actually do peg into the front pants panels. there are small pegs in the side of the front panels, that peg into small holes underneath the side panels
And talked about the fact that spark plug almost looks exactly like bumblebee or was based off a bumblebee

WHO came from the JobbyTheHong armada starscream review
@@Kohtix Me.
I disagree with the video I love this figure its awesome. Yes the original had the problem with the tabs impeding movement on the shoulders but they fixed it on the powerlinx one. I have had both versions for years and both work great the trailer stays perfectly still in super mode and the smokestacks don't fall off on mine I think you just had bad luck on got bad figures and if you don't like this figure why have it.
Rudy Huerta Question I’m thinking of getting one at one of my stores and I don’t know if I should get it or not is it a good idea to get it I love your feedback If you can. Oh and it’s all complete to
I would really love your feedback if you can please
He's a collector, he collects toys even if they're garbage, which let's be real, this is.
I really would love to see this one redone without auto transform gimmick. The idea is good for it and I do like the battle station mode. As to the basic prime, yeah Bendy prime is a far superior figure to fiddle with, even if on that one right now it's ankles are like, nope, all friction gone.
Man I love prime his base mode was a autobot base and Optimus himself was cool when combined with Jetfire and Overload. I got him today at the swap meet :)
One of my first transformers was the Powerlinx version and I do not remember having all of these issues. I wonder if Hasbro fixed those issues or if I just never noticed them because I was a dumb 10 year old who was just happy to have this huge Optimus
"It's aerodynamically bullshit." -Baltmatrix, 2010
XD!!!! idont think you could have done that any better, great job man, made my morning.
Beg pardon, but if you were to choose which Prime was worse, would it be the Energon or Armada Prime?
+dcgitz Energon because he's fat
+MrSoundwave64Z Energon wouldn't set your house on fire, mate. At least, baltmatrix didn't suffered that from Fatimus Prime.
Why didn't Hasbro make an Armada Optimus Prime that has a trailer that you can transform by yourself instead of being battery-operated?
Dustin Nunn see any other prime who can have a trailer that can open with your hands like G1 prime
9 years later:
I was wondering if u can take the batteries out before u transform it
Well now we have a Legacy version coming out that is waaaaay better!
you have to push the legs together in his super mode and then they will stay together, to attach him properly to his base you need to lift the clear plastic bit up where he attaches and you will be able to attach him properly with the grill down
This was one of my first figures and I still like it to this I dont care if people hate this toy I still love it
You could probably just glue the clear smokestacks in if you still have them.... If they don't interfere with transformation or any combined modes.
Nice job. A good 250th review. I remember kind of wanting this toy... Armada was one of the first Transformers series I watched, and although I don't have much fondness for it now, I remember wanting to get the big combining Prime, and even more recently seeing pictures and thinking it looked pretty cool. I guess I was mistaken! Thanks for warning me off that one.
Any chance of a review of the other combinations, though? Prime and Jetfire, or Prime and, err... the other pantsmech?
Best childhood memories with this toy I had one my cousin had one and between the two of us we had all the fugures
I find this figure amusing in that it was ridiculously hard to get hold of at first. By the time it showed up in my local toys r us when I was about 12 or 13, it was already reduced to clear. Couldn't shelf warm harder if it tried, pretty sure it was still there halfway through Energon. By the time it was gone, Energon Ultra Magnus, you know, the one that was an accessory for this guy? Yeah, the accessory was more expensive than the figure...
Did you know that the Mc'donald's Armada toys can peg on to the Armada figures?
So .... you gonna do the Legacy version when comes out ?
+Baltmatrix, does he actually spontaneously combust into flames if one isn't careful with him?
The intent of the trailer being on treads was tied into the series itself and the specific strategy with the line, Armada wanted to get away from nominally real life vehicles where Hasbro and Takara have to pay for licensing from the corporations themselves behind the vehicle modes.
The strategy was to apply licensing to the mini cons alone and a few at a time, with the larger figures such as Optimus having that placed situational and case by case.
He's distance sensitive as i observed, and can easily be scrambled into switching between all 3 modes at one time (specifically on the trailer) and the wrong signal can be sent between the cab and trailer.
So without batteries in, the super modes legs collapse in and it would automatically go back to base mode with it being able to manually fold back in for vehicle mode, good to know.
Every single version of him since 1984 was based on a licensed truck of some kind, except for that one and maybe a few others.
This one is a long nosed truck cab of made up origin, with the trailer on tank treads because Armada was going for vehicles you would see for military use and some for everyday use
Mine never had batteries and it looked so simple that I didn't bother reading the instructions. In other words, I had no idea that it had a self transforming gimmick.
how dose this to set your house on fire?
Quick question, I have a brown version of this does anyone know what that is called?
Why do I remember a completely different (darker) color variation, with a gray trailer (more reminiscent of the G1 trailer), and a shiny metalic gold Spark Plug?
@blazikenking who did u combine with him im curious
I recommend model glue for any parts that don't need to be removed and fall off a lot.
What about the Optimus Armada figure in which the trailer self transforms. I remember that one and wanted it when i was little.
mine actually keeps together even without the batterys in pants mode plus it pegs together perfectly in said mode
How did that catch fire?
@dukeofluns ya like the armada/cybertron crossover prime thing that was a deluxe class that was the armada prime mold but used a cyber key to activate the minicon gimmick
If this Prime toy is as flammable as you say it is then I will not bother with it myself. I wouldn't want my house going up in flames.
balt: "and the trailer burst into flames"
*checks the news from 9 years ago*
News: unknown fire started at large family home from child bedroom
Me: "note to self never get a transformers armada optimus prime"
I have the powerlinx version of this toy and I keep the trailer in fusion mode couse I'm scared to turn it into base or trailer mode plus I think the super mode looks cool when you combine it with your second one of the top portion with jetfire and overload so you have all 3 forms he used
what's w/ the boxes in the backround, and WOW u can count, (had to say that)
Just found a trailer to finally use mine in Super Mode. He does have Arm rotation. if anything it's a bit loose, so I think it was just a "your figure" issue.
Ah yes. The days of gimmick based transformers… imagine how fun it would be to mess around with all of the gimmicks.
are you going to review the other transformers that combine with prime
Which episode of tfwire did you tell the story?
Ps the legs DO hold together but he didnt move a certain set of pieces in the legs that block the pegs from working properly
you forgot to mention that the matrix is actually in prime's chest and also that shoulder problem is actually because theres a wire running through there to where the shoulders cant actually go forward the powerlinx remold fixed that issue as i had one when i was younger had a powerlinx version i mean
+Shannon Gregory also armada is my favorite transformers show as well as favorite prime toy and character but not favorite voice as that goes to Peter Cullen of fucking corse
how did it catch on fire
The "SHUT UP!!" always gets me
wasn't there a remodel of armada prime that was sold as a deluxe class or do you not have it?
Where can I see how it caught fire
You will never stop making me say "I am Optimus Prime!"
Did you know that Sparkplug is called Prime in Micron Legend?
+Steven Dolce Oh? I guess that's because the Unicorn Trilogy was the last time where the Primes were known as Convoy (G1 Optimus was just Convoy or G1 Convoy, Primal was just Convoy again or Beast Convoy, RID1 Optimus was Fire Convoy -Fitting, he was the first Optimus to be a fire truck rather than a freight-liner-, Armada Optimus was Star Convoy, I think, Energon Optimus was Grand Convoy and Cybertron Optimus was Galaxy Convoy). When the movie came around, the Japanese names were phased out in favor of the American names and remained like that (only exceptions were Animated Bulkhead, as he was called Ironhide, and actual Ironhide became Armorhide, all to fit with the movie, as Animated in Japan was a prequel to the movie). All the Japanese Primes were also called Convoy. The origin of the name is Takara's 80's Car Robots line, the precursor of most of the Transformers we know and love, where Optimus' name was Battle Convoy.
I personally didn't mind this figure and I thought that the trailer becoming the legs was pretty neat
I like how the thumbnail is a ? and this figure is one of the most common package swaps
How do you catch a big piece of plastic on fire in a bedroom?
Think this guy just has bad luck, I've had mine for years, still works fine and I love it. And I love how it turns into the base coz it gives you something to let the minicons hang out on :)
also to what you said about just getting the prime part not the trailer: they sold a stand-alone prime figure with no golden fists, a little more articulation, and a minicon that turned into a rifle.
How did it cause a fire in your bedroom
How did it set your house on fire
I would only get this just for sparkplug and the trailer (no gimmicky stuff included)
You have your own opinion on it , I still like it.
“His faceplate moves ... whoop dee doo” lol
fold up the display screan on the base then the sound wont play randomly.
please tell me one armada figure that did have great posability.
i have a feeling one of the major reasons you dont like this dude is the fact that it caught on fire.
i like this figure. hes not perfect, but still i like him
How did your house catch on fire, dude?
I had the night version, I loved the prime figure because I had the armada video game, but I always thought the trailer was a brick :P lol I can't believe urs caught fire
I would really like a version of this in transformers legacy that wasn’t motorized.
Ever thought of getting the new Legacy Armada Prime)
how did it set you house on fire?
That is the most baffling verdict I've ever heard for a figure with poor poseability, "the point of him is moot" ???
Dude This Optimus Prime Is Awesome Plus Sorry Your Bed And Toy Got Caught On Fire.
LOL imagine it caught on fire AGAIN during review
Also, GPS! Thankfully, the Powerlinx version doesn't have that problem (as mine hasn't broken apart yet)
