This basic information has made her alot of money from ppl who refuse to abide because they believe it's luck or they get too cute with their style trying to emulate a pro or some cool guy in their imagination. Ofcourse it takes years of experience to master so you need to play thousands of hands. It's not for everyone.

    She clearly is intelligent. There is no doubt an analytical aspect based on odds in poker. However, I find it interesting that younger players tend to dominate at the highest levels so there seems to be a factor perhaps about focus endurance that makes a difference. Most players recognized for being at the top of their games and considered world-class don't keep it up for too many years and you see many of them flame out and go broke. Like many other sports, athletes don't stay at their peak for long even with a mental game like poker.

    The game has changed much from when I was young, but I believe it has "peaked" in terms of theory *on the decision making end*. This is because of what I call "final outcome" or, the end result of the termination of a hand; it's binary. Therefore, theoretically, you can flip a coin to make plays. This is still much more complex than, say, chess which is pure math, or even go as Liv states. However, in games such as American football, there's not only the deep analysis on the front-end, plus in-game, but the outcomes are much more varied.

      @mkahn81 Před 4 lety

      Deon Paul Osei-Kuffour both. The exact decisions vary slightly because in cash you can rebuy and tournament you have to consider payouts, variance (if you’re knocked out you can’t rebuy, how many blinds are in your stack, which is also a factor in cash, and a few other variables).

  • @OsefKincaid
    @OsefKincaid Před 7 lety

    What's the exact rationale for saying it's optimal to open 50% on the button? I'd intuitively expect you should open more than that.

    • @jonweisensale227
      @jonweisensale227 Před 4 lety

      OsefKincaid commenting years later hoping you’ll see. The rationale is that it’s a program trying to describe GTO (game theory optimal). GTO is the idea that how you’re playing is unbeatable. You can never be beaten if you play optimally against a non-optimal player. So what the program is saying is that, on the button, 50% of the ~3600 possible starting hands are playable on the button if you’re striving to achieve perfect GTO. It’s a bit more complex than that, as Boree described, because it’s assuming you’re against a non-optimal player which can be exploited. Most of the time you’re not playing GTO and you’re opponent isn’t either.

    What I have always been confused about in poker is that at the highest level I always assumed that everyone knows that statistics and everyone knows how to act. So it is basically just gambling at the highest level. But I think there are few people that would argue that there isn't a ranking of the top 100 players in the world. So that is where I am confused. How can the ranking exist? You would have to say that either they don't always know the statistics or they actually give off real tells. And that some players can tell the difference between acting and reality even when it is coming from the best in the world.

      If you look up big tournament events and the participants you will see a trend, the best players are almost always amongst the best while fun-players are always rotating. Almost always because in big fields the luck-factor is huge but still the theory behind the play on the long run prevails. Look at final table appearances.

      @atfti Před rokem +1

      Ik this is a late response, but that's a really true concern. The thing about poker is that chips ALWAYS have to flow. Yeah, two high-level players can understand what the stats are, but the arts of disguising your hand strength and getting money in when you have the best of it are necessary. The problem is the reconciliation of the two. The higher level you are, the more likely it is that you can both discriminate betting for value and betting as a bluff, as well as do those two yourself and reveal the least amount of information possible. That's why ranges are a thing, cause you'll never know exactly what Villain has, but you do know the number of logical value hands and bluffs that they would have in a certain spot. Poker at a high-level is WAY more a game of information than a game of luck

    When calculating the amount of lives saved from Malaria, diminishing marginal returns is not taken into consideration, i.e. the first x lives saved might cost what she says, but the remaining people who need saving will be more and more expensive to save. You would still obviously be able to save far more people from Malaria with that amount of money, but one needs to remember that there are myriad complex economic phenomena to take into consideration if trying to distribute money to various causes in an optimal manner.
