    Tamron 85mm is a solid, well-made lense. I agree.VC is very powerful, and bokeh is also beautiful.I agree the slight underexposure of this lense, and exposure is easily contolled by many programs.This lense has very good cost effectiveness.

    I'm waiting for this lens to arrive, I own Tamron 45mm for several years and it's amazingly sharp at 1.8. My Canon 24-70 2.8 L lens also has this issue with underexposing on 5D mk2 body.

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  Před 5 lety

      It has a max magnification of 0.139x so it's not anything that could be considered macro unfortunately... the Tamron macro lens is a great lens though, so unless you really need a little bit more light, or a slightly smaller lens, the 100mm will still do a great job and not only for macro :)

    I had this lens for a while and ended up selling it. I got some great images from it but there was something missing. I'm a huge Zeiss fan and have very few Canon lenses anymore. This lens may be a better all-rounder then the canon 85 1.8 or 1.2, but I'll wait for the canon 1.4 to pick up another 85. I love the Zeiss 85 but at this focal length I start to appreciate IS..

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  Před 7 lety +1

      I had a Zeiss 135 when I was shooting Nikon and absolutely loved it... I'd love to go just all in with Zeiss but it's not practical for most of the situations I find myself in unfortunately. I think a lot of people have high hopes for the Canon 85 1.4L, really hope it doesn't disappoint. IS was surprisingly nice in an 85 like you said, never really thought about it but now it's hard to go back. Thanks for watching and commenting, it's always appreciated! :)

    You are correct in finding the tamron shots underexposed, even i noticed that, though we may compensate the exposure by 2/3rd or a full Stop in Aperture Priority, and it's not an issue in Manual mode. The VC comes in handy, for videos or lowlight stills. Only the Canon 85/1.4 IS L which is in the pipeline, can now beat the Tamron in being the Fastest + Stabilised 85mm lens. Couple of days back, I compared my shots from 85VC to 85L & 135L, and the colors from tamron looked pale, bland, dull, muted to my eye. I liked the color-science & saturation from Canon L Glass more. However others may find Tamron colors more pleasing, which boils down to personal preference.
    btw, your daughter is cute.
    Warm Regards, Thanks.

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  Před 7 lety

      Thanks as always for watching and commenting! I agree the L glass has some gorgeous color rendition, in the case of the 85 though it's hard to justify the price because of that unless you have the money to spare. I could never get rid of mine though, it's my go to lens most of the time. The 135 is still an amazing value and hopefully the 85 1.4L won't be too overpriced when it comes out (not too hopeful on that though, haha).
      And thank you so much for the compliment as well :)
      Have a great weekend!

    • @ralphsaad8637
      @ralphsaad8637 Před rokem

      The tamron is actually the stronger lens in many comparisons when put against the canon. The Canon may have some advantages as bokeh rendering and (possibly) colors might be richer, but the tamron definitely has good enough bokeh and lovely colors with image stabilization for less than half the price... It's also sharper in the center and much sharper once you get off the center.

    • @DanielFazzari
      @DanielFazzari Před 7 lety

      Scott Dumas Yeah, I imagine the new 85 will be pretty close to the 85 1.2 price. True, it will "only" be 1.4, but they are adding IS and probably weather sealing = more $$

    • @ScottDumas
      @ScottDumas  Před 7 lety +1

      Yeah, honestly if it's close to the price of the 1.2 I think both will sell well enough. The Tamron is still a great 3rd party option but if Canon has those 2 options in their lineup at comparable prices a lot of people will be satisfied.

    I subscribed. I like your content. I did buy the Tamron lens for my EOSR. I can't afford the RF85 1.2 lol. I"ll have it next week. I keep telling myself this lens will be good becuse I'm used to the other RF glass I have. (24-70 and 70-200). But at almost 3,000 for the RF. I don't think so right now.

      @ScottDumas  Před 4 lety

      Hey, thank so much! I think you'll enjoy it for sure. Most lenses on the EOS-R tend to do really well, and having VC on the 85mm is awesome. I now have the 85 1.4 IS from Canon and the stabilization is great. I often use it for video too :) The RF glass is crazy good but crazy expensive haha. I have only bought the 35mm so far but don't use it much actually. Anyway, thanks for watching and subscribing! :)
