    Hi, this is Jay P. Morgan. Today on The Slanted Lens we're going to review two lenses from Tamron (bit.ly/20zf8lV). First, a redo of their 90mm 2.8 macro. And secondly, a brand new 85mm 1.8 prime. These lenses are fabulous. Watch and see what's new and improved.

    Great video, Would you buy the 90mm Macro over the canon 100mm 2.8L?

    are all the new tamron lenses focusing the canon way (including the tamron 24-70mm g2?)

    I'm using a DX camera. What's the pros and cons of using the 90mm for portrait? I can buy only one now so want to hit two targets with one lens

    Review or shill.

    I have had the 90 mm lens for some months. After a few months, it would sometimes stop autofocusing, and then one day, it totally gave up autofocusing. What can be the possible reasons? I never dropped it or anything! All my other lenses are working pretty well with my camera, the Nikon D750.
    Many thanks in advance. :)

    As an fyi, there is a problem when these new Tamron lenses (at least the 45 & 85 for sure) when they are mounted on the new Canon 1Dx II. You get semi opaque circles on the screen in liveview and on the thumbnails. I have alerted Tamron and Canon but I think it is some issue with the 1DX II's lens aberration correction not playing nice with the lens.

    Making a review on lenses that you are paid for does make the review slightly not trust worthy. Even though it might be true, I just don't want to see sellout videos if I'm looking to make a decision.

      +MsMoeb .. everyone needs to earn money somehow. I see what you mean though. I invested thousands on Canon lenses because I thought they were the best. I haven't changed my mind. I have my share of cheaper lenses I started out with, that said, Tamron and Sigma have their place in the market.

    • @TheSlantedLens
      @TheSlantedLens  Před 8 lety +1

      +MsMoeb I don't see why this would be considered a "sellout" video. I wouldn't have a company whose product I didn't believe in sponsor my channel. Feel free to rent one of these lenses for a few days and try it out. You'll see it's a worthwhile product.

    • @MsMoeb
      @MsMoeb Před 8 lety +3

      +The Slanted Lens I do trust what you might say. And I get what a sponsorship imply. I have my self a Tamron lens that I'm really happy with. I'm just saying that the fact that you are reviewing a lens from a company that is a sponsor may give less credibility. Usually a review give a good side and a bad side to a product. there is no perfectness in any product. It's not the case here, this is why I call it a bit of a sellout video review. Maybe show more footage/photos to highlight the result of the tests. It might help people more. But that's just my opinion ;)

      ooooooooh enough with that crap... everybody knows it, everybody does it, and there's always someone to complain about it. we're less stupid than you think and can make our decision ourselves without you trolling about it. Just go shopping in stores confront those arrogant salesmen and you'll be happy someone does those videos for you.

    • @EvulDali
      @EvulDali Před 8 lety

      +MsMoeb It`s perfectly fine that they review products by their sponsor. They need to make a living. Also they are honest and actually say that they are sponsored. They also tend to accept sponsorships from reputable companies that produce good quality products. There is one thing about this review tho. It is really shallow. No real image sample review no real world or lab testing. So from that perspective it is a bit lacking.

    i didn't understand the focus change to canon in this video? does this mean the lenses will perform better on canon?

    • @TheSlantedLens
      @TheSlantedLens  Před 8 lety

      The focus rings on Canon and Nikon lenses are opposite, meaning that if you turn it all the way to the left you will get different results on each lens. Tamron makes lenses for both cameras and for years, the focus ring matched those of Nikon's native lenses. With this latest set, the focus pulls the same way as the Canon lenses. Great news for me since all I use are Tamron and Canon, so now they all match.

      The Slanted Lens is it true for all G2 lenses? I borrowed the new 90mm from my friend and it still rotates in the Nikon direction. I'm a canon shooter myself and like you find this quite annoying..

    I love my Tamron lenses, but wonder about the choice of focal lengths. Why didn't Tamron choose a 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, 100mm primes instead of the 35, 45, 85, 90mm? I think they could have sold a lot more lenses if they spread out the focal lengths a bit more. Just my 2 cents. :)

    • @ralphsaad8637
      @ralphsaad8637 Před rokem +1

      I personally ended up enjoying the 45mm focal length much more thsn the 50mm. The extra 5mm just makes it more versatile for every day use.

  • @shaolin95
    @shaolin95 Před 8 lety

    your comment about the 85 being the perfect lense because it doesn't compress or other distortions makes no sense. it will depend on how close you get to the subject but an 85mm will show clear distortion vs something like a 135mm, 200 or longer. But surely it will be better than a 50mm for tight heads shots if shot from the same distance that's for sure

    wow you been taking pictures for over 25 years that's great so let me get this right 85mm is a portrait lens 35mm is for wide shots and the 50mm is a great lens so let me ask you this if i buy
    1. tamron 35
    2. tamron 85
    3, tamron 24-70
    4. tamron 35-150
    5. canon 50mm
    so that's all i need for my camera bag

    • @TheSlantedLens
      @TheSlantedLens  Před 3 lety +1

      That is a great list and it gives you everything with one exception. Even though I loove the 35-150mm, I would start with the Tamron 70-200mm G2. It is one of my favorite lenses.

      @@TheSlantedLens so you're saying don't buy the 35-150mm lens get the tamron 70-200 so how good is that lens i have an old canon 400d 10.1 megapixel camera i'm going to put the 17-55 on that one and i want to buy the canon 80d and my mother in law just bought me a canon 5d mark 3 she got it for my birthday so i can't complain
