Regent Seven Seas Splendor Day 8: Sea Day, Putt Putt, and Dinner at Pacific Rim

On day 8, we have a scheduled sea day as we make our way back to Miami. As usual, we eat and drink our way around the ship, stopping off to play a little Putt Putt golf.
In the evening, we have our first and only reservation at Pacific Rim, Regent's Asian fusion restaurant.
I just discovered your videos - and I love them. It’s nice to see ‘us’ enjoying the high life. (I’ve done 2 Regent Seven Seas cruises and they are the best way to cruise.)

Since you used the term "us", I will tell a short story. On my first Regent cruise in 2008, we embarked and then I had to get off the ship to go to the drug store for allergy meds. When I tried to reboard, one of the agents told me "Sir, the crew has to board over there!" Man did she turn red and apologized about a hundred times when I showed my room key!
I liked watching a video made by real travelers and not ones just by travel agents.

My wife and I were on Explorer right after the Covid ban ended. Since then we have been on Voyager, Mariner and Navigator. We are going to be on Grandeur through the Panama Canal this Christmas/New Year. So we need Splendor to close the loop. Our favorite specialty restaurant on Explorer was Pacific Rim. The steaks and Chartreuse dishes can be ordered in Compass
Rose (where we have always had fabulous waiters). Once we find a good waiter we stay at his/her table. On Voyager we got a visit at our table by the ship Executive Chef, a real treat.
Very nice! We have looked at the Panama Canal cruise, but it was all waitlisted before we had a chance to book. Maybe the next year our luck will be better.
@@DJTravels When we looked at the Grandeur cruise we were on the waitlist. I looked at the various waitlists and picked the shortest (Penthouse). Within two weeks our travel agent called us with the good news.

Pacific Rim was very good! Just make sure you order double for your side of veggies. I am not the biggest veggie eater, and even I found the portion to be small!

I like the long tongs you were using with cod. With them being joined might make it easier to use with arthritis. Probably takes be of practice to use it.

@@DJTravels I am not goung ro make this a long back and forth but what I enjoyed about your videos was that it was not selling the ship. You showed what you and your partner were actually doing versus just every generic item the ship offers. Yoy said what the two of you liked and what you didn't. It was personal, not just a tour. Yours are fine but your video added a different layer of information. Instead of if showing what might happen to me, you showed what DID happen to you which gives me an opportunity to put myself in your shoes as to whether I would like a similar experience.

Sony A7SIII for almost all interior videos (room stuff, restaurants, etc.)
DJI Pocket 2 for all breakfast videos, and walking around on tours
GoPro10 for beach shots
On the Sony, for this video, I had the Rode Video Micro for sound, but it did not work well in a noisy environment.

I went to 4 shows on this cruise with her, that’s four more than usual! I usually either hit a bar or the casino while she is at a show.
Really enjoyed watching the entire length of the trip! Would be great if you guys could’ve included more in depth food commentaries.

We skipped the wasabi mayo, but loved those soft shell crabs. Did you try the dim sum at Pacific Rim. Ate there 3 times!
No, did not have the dim sum. Only ate once at PacRim. We tried to get an additional reservation, but weren't able to. How did you get in three times?
The next ship we will be on, Voyager, does not have PacRim. A little disappointing, but the itinerary is such that we will probably eat a lot of local foods for lunch during our excursions.
So, I gotta ask, what's with the name Pizza Steve?? Cause I am a big pizza lover. I even have a small wood burning pizza oven on my lanai!

On many ships that I have on there are lectures and demonstrations on sea days. Was this the case on the Splendor?
Yes, they had several lectures, but I did not attend any of them. The speaker was Peter Coyle. I only know that because he was in the hot tub one night when Johnetta and I went up for a late night soak!
I think they had some demonstrations, but again, I did not attend. I threw away my copies of the daily activity sheet, Passages, so I am sorry that I can't be of more help!!

Was the service in Pacific Rim a little slow? Why didn't you show any of the spa and gym?
No, the service was rather fast. We got very full and skipped dessert! I showed a little of the gym in the Days 3 and 4 video, and the male side of the spa in the Tour video. I don’t want to make people who are working out feel uncomfortable.
