Cattle INCOMING! Sorting and Shipping Calves
Vložit
- čas přidán 6. 08. 2024
- We sort off the rest of the grain calves to make a truck load and be shipped to sale. Had a few close calls. Of course the big set that was shipped before this had a lot more action. Took a few kicks on that day but it's all good. A lot more cow and calf working videos coming.
Thanks for watching and feel free to let me know what you think!

Been there, done that, for 50 years. Brought up on a cow/calf operation, feedlot, plus dad was a cattle buyer. All we did was sort cattle for different customers and sort fat cattle. Then started calving in February here in Alberta, Canada. Good times lol
How glad I am l found your videos I am pushing 80 now but was raised in Comanche and brown county we ran cows , hair goats , and sheep , raised cotton , peanuts and feed grain but the 7 year drought in the 50’s was very bad and most farmers lost their farms we stopped farming but kept the land kept a small batch of cattle
And we started working off the farm . God bless you and keep safe. What a joy to watch.....
GTO AL I’m sure my dad could tell me stories about that time and what my grandfathers were going through. I will have to ask him. Thank you for the kind words.
the cattle flow through that set up pretty nice! would've thought they would have balked that straight chute but they went right up for nothing..., any time when the cattle load that fast its a well thought out system!
Really nice and well laid out set of pens.
Got to love Buster, the strong silent type.
I love you Mr. Buster you were just having fun my boy. Much love to the buster man.
Your coral system is beautiful
darn dust. love it just after it rains here in Tehama County cus it don't rain much but once or twice all summer is all. Luckily we got the highest snowpack to last. Wish my family farmed. I'm the first in 70 years. Oh well
Thanks for the video
everything looks good I'm jealous must be nice to have such a nice place these days you get the best of both worlds if you get internet n swim holes

Don't nobody talk bad about Buster!❤
Very nice setup
take it easy on ol buster. he was just trying to lead them into the pens !
Thank you for sharing.🐂🐂🐂
Have same conversations with ours 😅😅
Buster just wanted to be the leader
Job well done, the one staying back thought you didnt see her.😄 huge truck. Everything is bigger in Texas, right👍
Appreciate it!!
just asking -- how many head of cattle fit in that trailer? also I enjoy your videos !! keep them coming ,thanks
Is there a method to sorting, (age, weight, etc..) or do you just randomly pick cattle? Do you do any work with the bulls or just let them be until it’s time to breed? Awesome video man keep em coming!!!!
Thanks! Yeah, when shipping a load out we try to match them up to get the weight right and uniform. If there’s something that sticks out or has something wrong with it, they get sorted off. If you just let them all go they will knock them off at the sale if one doesn’t match and you take a hit in the pocketbook that way!
How many HD did you load out in video ? Lost count
No video, for sometime hope all is good
Add a panel to your gate, so you can close it around on them
Good
How many cattle do you run and where in Texas are, we are coming my granddaughter's graduation next month at Texas A&M, in Canon, Texas
I’ve played that balance game before...
Those yearlings look nice. They go to a stockyard? Or did you sell them privately. And that’s a sweet pen system you guys have
Appreciate it! Yes, they went to the stockyards up in NW Oklahoma.
I commend you on telling Buster like it is without using profanity (maybe you edited it out). Does he ever present you with treats when you follow his instructions?
My calves don't follow a truck, I always gotta run em. Lol
Gotta get them used to it!
do you send your calves to a feedlot are an auction
I have seen all of your videos and I won't to be like you
🎉
You are the best youtober
Mary Coufal ha! Well thanks for the kind words Mary!
We’re you get your flags from
We are country to
Can you do more videos like this if possible??
I've got one like this on the way that I shot yesterday, better than this one!
Funny moment with your dog. He ran right in front of that group of calves you were sorting. That could've hurt.
How do you tell the bull calves from the heifer calves?
Bulls have a penis heifers don't
Hanna I’m not being rude but that’s a funny question I live on a farm and have heard anybody ask that not being rude or anything
How many cows that was
The farm guy would you be able to help me out ? I’m building some custom panels but at the same time in a budget although yes safety is #1 priority , what I would like is your opinion wether going with 2”/16 gauge , 2”/14gauge or 1.5” 16 gauge tubing for panel option 1 being 6’ tall with one bar for every foot & one bar going through the middle(standard arena panel) or option 2 that is 6’ tall with 4 bars Across but spacing of 18” .
Man, that’s a tough one! I’d say go for the beefiest setup you can, that way you’re not paying for it down the road. I guess it all depends how hard they’re going to be worked.
Yeah I’d go with the beefiest one as well. Unless you’re running really docile cattle. If you got tiger stripes, you better go heavy duty.
The Farm Guy totally agree on that , these panels will be for bucking bulls
some of them are easy to work with but some of them are very aggressive & jumpers just like beef cattle anything can happen well what would your suggestion be for tubing ? 2”/16 gauge , 2”/14gauge or 1 3/4” 16gauge . (What’s the bar size you have in your corral systems ?)
@@josetufino2613 i want to buy things what must do
hang those tiger stripes up on the rail...best for all
How many beets Cows
Buster you should be ashamed lol nice
Where have you been? This is the first video in a long time. Good video though
Been wondering where you've been! Hadn't seen ya comment for the past 3 or 4 videos or so. Glad you're back!

I need to check and see why your videos haven't been popping up. Anyway in Beavers Bend camping for 3 days.
From 3:28 onwards for a minute or 2 i think the dog is in a place that is distracting the livestock from moving forward and forcing them to stop and turn back.
Not telling you how to do things. Its just an observation that could be right or wrong. I have no experience with what you are doing which is why i am watching your channel.
I understand, you're observation isn't wrong. He's not a fully trained dog and actually we never put the work in to train him right. I appreciate your comments!
Were we wrong about sheep like we were the apple. This video speaks a little differently to me 🤔
I was watching ti
I was watching this video during my breakfast
I like it
Just an idea. Where you have the loading race coming of the wide race at an angle you seem to have a bit of trouble getting the cattle to go in there hence why you have a electric prod. Why not change it to a Bud Box arrangement? You have enough race past the entrance to do it really easily and cheaply. All you would do then is run them up the main race and past the entrance to the loading race then shut a sheeted gate behind them. Then, after a few seconds (less for "wilder" cattle) they turn around and will run up the race themselves because they think they are just going back to where they came from. It's an amazing thing to see at work. I found it on you tube years ago and convinced my mate to install one in his yards and he has never regretted it. Gone are the days of yelling and forcing the cattle up the race. They run up the race themselves. We installed some cheap non return gates too, they just pivot above the race. The cattle run underneath them and then can't come back. It cost him nothing in materials and a couple of days welding to totally transform his set up. Look for videos on here that show the system. It doesn't need to be as flash as the ones they have in the big feed yards, it's just the way the sheeted gate swings that's important. In your case it would hinge on the outside fence and the latch would be at the end of the loading chute. Your setup is very easy to modify in this way.
Look how so many of your cattle turn around and come back at you when you force them up the race way. Use this behaviour to get them to easily go where you want them to. It will save a lot of stress and danger for you and the cattle.
Also, where you are cutting out the calves from the pen into the race, why not sheet the gate and the left hand side of the raceway? It seems that a lot of them turn to the left and spin around because they can see their mates and want to go back to them. If you had sheeted gates and sides then they won't be able to see them and should run up the race a bit easier for you which again means less stress and danger for all. Again, it would not cost much or take long to do and could save you loads of time.
Oh, and get the guy to move away from the end of the race way or sheet the sides so the cattle can't see him, or even just his head. That might be causing a lot of your problems too.
Let me know what you think 🙂🙂
Phil L I totally agree with you that the setup could be improved a great deal. I’ve quickly looked at some overviews of the Bud Box system and it looks very interesting. I’ve been wanting to add some sheets to the panels to help hide a gate man or help the cattle move a direction without seeing what’s on the other side. If we ever have some long down time I would love to improve our setup.
We actually have multiple pens kind of spread around and work with lesser pens at other places so we just make do with what’s there because the other ones not shown in the video need some improvement more so than this one. Thanks for your feedback. I love learning of other setups and the one you mentioned looks great!
That way God made horses
Ok the guy standing at the end of the ally isn’t helping you several of your cows decided the ally wasn’t safe with him there
Don’t tell him how do to his job he won’t tell you how do his. Guy at the in of the ally is switching gates from butcher house cows to non butcher
Where are you located
North Texas
Damn you boys need some horses!
Buster wasn't that bad
Using a GoPro? Camera? Name and tripod I’m asking?
Yeah, and the tripod was just a cheap mount that I strapped on the fence
@@TheFarmGuy thanks for responding back and so quickly at that. Some CZcamsrs either don’t or don’t after they reach a high level of people/fans so thanks bud..back to the GoPro/camera what models are they? KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK
@@davidthesimulator7392 thank you. In this video I had the hero 7 black. I now use the hero 9 and the 7. The 7 is a great little cam if you’re into the GoPro line. There may be a few shots in here not from a GoPro but all the action stuff is. I’ll have to rewatch part of it to remember lol
Do you sell very young calves
Denise Shephard no, never.
@@TheFarmGuy I was just asking because many do you clearly love your cattle it.must get difficult saying good bye to them
El perro está siempre mal ubicado, molesta, asusta y distrae. Es el típico perro que cuanto más lejos mejor.
Stand your ground
That was really fun to watch! I can see why you stay skinny.... lots of running all over the place!
Thanks! Yes, a life full of running from cattle, jumping fences, and lifting stuff all day will definitely keep you skinny!!
Badly designed cattle yard
Plus I wouldn’t allow the dog being in the yard
