- How you can make your canoe tripping stroke more efficient and more powerful. In my paddling career I’ve spent a ton of time paddling into headwinds and crossing gigantic lakes, stroke after endless stroke. And that’s given me a ton of time to think about and experiment with different paddle strokes, trying to find the one that maximised power and minimised fatigue.
This video summarises my findings about finding an efficient paddle stroke for wilderness canoe trips…
0:14 Arms only stroke
0:30 Stroke using some torso rotation
1:02 Stroke using significant torso rotation and higher cadence
2:54 Stroke using forward torso hinge

Clear and to the point. Very helpful
Learned to use my torso for more power & all day paddling ability with no adverse affects BUT now use a double blade, what a game changer.l can power in to wind more easily, travel faster & more smoothly.
I now carry a single blade for a spare & when l'm out in calm weather for a quiet relaxing paddle.
Cheers
You’re using a double blade in a canoe? 😮 I never heard or saw this. Usually, a canoe is way to wide for a double blade.
Usually, a double blade is used in a kayak.
How to you stear the canoe with the double blade?

l steer by using a power stroke on the opposite side of the way l want to turn.
No corrective j stroke, just power strokes.
You also need long double blade.
Go like the dickens ;)
@@eschneider8799 thank you! Maybe I should give it a try 😃
As often as I can I stand and pole my canoe, this is great in shallow waters, along the edge of a lake if the coast line allow etc. just another way to break up the torture, that might be too harsh. I love paddling correct or not.
Sometimes a change is as good as a rest!
You speak well in front of the camera. You should consider making content Mr.👍
Thank you good sir. I shall endeavor to do so
What is the canoe in this video?
It's the Sea-One, a hybrid canoe made by Western Canoeing that I used on my 1,000 mile solo trip in the Arctic czcams.com/video/DKWYZEyF3w8/video.html
