    TKC the knife connection has the best scales for The Izula (The extended canvas micarta scales) but they are expensive at $40.I truly prefer the the Izula II size. That 1/2 inch really makes a difference in the hand. So hope Esse comes around & makes the Izula 2 in S35VN. I have to say I was not familiar with the White River M1 Pro Backpacker. Knife Video Channel I agree,I’ve been considering getting the 3.5 and the 4.5..I currently have the 3 and 4 and I love both.I bought the 3 for EDC and went with the flat G-10 scales because I figured there would be a little less of the print sticking out from under my shirt.I bought the 4 to use as a belt knife for camping,hiking,fishing,hunting,etc so I went for the fuller micarta scales and I love them both.I want the 3.5 mostly for another small EDC fixed blade but the 4.5 more for a bushcraft knife.the 4 is a great outdoors knife but the 4.5 not having the finger choil would be a better bushcraft knife as it allows for more grip options...no problem,I’m glad I watched it.it made me realize I really need to add the White River Backpacker to my collection.it looks like an amazing little knife

    • @knifevideochannel4657
      @knifevideochannel4657  Před 3 lety

      I really like the Bradford choil knives, Flat and 3D scales for the reasons you mention. The basic 3 in the video was $100 bucks off Amazon long ago and the purchase was inspired by my love of choiled Spydercos with similar handle Designs. I have XL-XXL Sized hands and couldn't believe how well the Lil Native, Native 5, And Para 3 "fit" my hand comfortably in use.
      I also like to carry my small fixed blades appendix carry horizontally! The flat scaled Guardian 3 was a perfect for that task initially. The only weakness was the leather sheath (leather coming out each time knife was pulled) losing retention over time.
      The White River M1 was a beautifully made piece with premium steel, That featured a decent Kydex sheath stock for $18 bucks more then the N690 BG3.
      Bradford offers a small Kydex Sheath on the wharncliffe G3 that I'd love to try along with the 3.5 and 4.5. So many good options in this category.

    I recently got into the small fixed blades myself. I may very well grab this S35 version. I have the 1095 one, and it's a pretty decent knife. I should get the White River. I have their Ursus 45, and I love it, so I have no reason to doubt the Backpacker Pro is of any less quality.
    Have you ever tried the Blackjack 155, and if so, what do you think of it? I like it better than the Izula, but I don't have the White River so can't compare.. As with any of this type knife, the handles are a must have addition, but they're hard to find for the Blackjack. I recently noticed that Bladematrix has them available. Knifeworks has the best price on the 155, and they still have some of the silver non coated version left. I like the convex edge on the 155, and 154cm is a pretty good steel. I also like the leather sheath, which has a rare earth magnet in it for added security. They're made by Bark River, but I'm pretty sure they are discontinued.

      The White River is a step above in Quality to the ESEE IMO. All of their knives I've handled are tip top fit n finish for a production company.
      I haven't seen the Blackjack 155 yet, I'll definitely check it out. I remember watching TAC CZcams channel a few years ago (guy with face covered) and he always raved about BJ knives!

    I have an Izula in 1095 with the standard powder coating, which I absolutely adore, but I’ve noticed that it’s a terrible slicer. It handles batoning and other rough stuff just fine, but it’s pretty clumsy for just normal cutting tasks. How does the S35VN Izula or the Backpacker compare to the 1095 Izula in terms of milder, EDC-type cutting tasks?

    • @knifevideochannel4657
      @knifevideochannel4657  Před 3 lety +3

      The Izula at .15 thickness isn't very thin behind the edge and the thick powder coat doesn't help during cutting of "Normal" everyday materials! The Backpacker Pro is .13 thick and the smooth satin finish makes it better for EDC cutting tasks! Thanks for watching

    • @timrice5342

      I watched an esee comparison candiru, izula, esse3. The izula is a thick blade! The candiru and esee3 same, izula thicker! There is another video of a guy that loves his izula. Owns many and on his daily carries removed the coating!
      Reading between lines, he dresses out a lot of game. So he probably loves the bigger belly of the esee.
      As for slicing.... depends on what you're slicing? I have Japanese vg10 in kitchen that slice stupidly easy. Yet for carrots, sweet potatoes, I grab my cutco 440 chef knife. Maybe its the hollow grind on it. I can't fault Esee on anything their knives serve a purpose. As does the white rivers model1. You're going to have to figure out your needs and buy according?
      Personally I'll be buying the WR model1. (Backpacker) I think for s35v and the money its just a better value. But I still want candiru or izula2

    I do not understand why anyone would want an ESEE is anything other than 1095. It's easy to care for. Stupid simple to sharpen (literally can sharpen on rock with water or spit). Holds an edge much longer than you would think. Is just as tough as any of those "super steels". And it's very affordable.
    I personally don't want or need any other blade steel than 1095 and I live in the wet wet wet PNW and do a fair amount of fishing even salt water fishing. All I use is 1095 ESEE knives. Infact, I have the ESEE Izula on me right now as it's my EDC.

    How do you like s35vn I'm not a big fan. But I only have one knife in it. In my use xhp last way longer. I just don't see a benefit when 1095 is very tough easy to sharpen and doesn't chip.
    On the other side I think you sold me on the backpacker. I carry a utica neck knife it's amazing but it could use a longer handle. It has a choil that makes it comfortable.
    I like the esee izula 2 I just don't see the need for s35vn I think it's very over rated for what it is. Just wondering what your experience has been

      The Backpacker/Pro is the highest quality Production knife (in this category) with the best ergonomics IMO. Can't say enough about the overall package!
      I prefer stainless steel in a smaller fixed that I mainly appendix carry! S35VN is much easier to sharpen then S30V, Doesn't chip "out" nearly as much, And is tough enough for MY personal use.

    weird, i was just trying to find an alternative to my izula 2 with better steel and had been looking at the white river. didn't even come across your video looking for either though, was researching S35V! now i cant decide 😭

      As nice as this New premium Izula is, It's tough to beat the awesome quality and price of the M1 Backpacker Pro. Especially when you Factor in the addition of the horizontal/vertical carry Kydex sheath. If your going to keep the knife Skeletonized and/or wrap with Paracord, The Izulas lower cost will not disappoint TBTD! Thanks for watching and drop me a line on how you like whichever you choose.

    • @knifevideochannel4657

      S35VN was engineered by Crucible and CRKs to have MOST of the qualities of S30V, But be a bit easier to sharpen! Thanks for watching Silencer

    Is this thing waterproof? Or does it go through the hole or the edges of the handle?

    • @knifevideochannel4657
      @knifevideochannel4657  Před 2 lety

      The scales are bolted (not glued) so water would get in-between the tang and handle. That being said S35VN is stainless, So unless it's a heavy salt water environment the knife should be good.
      In salt water use I would buy a knife made with LC200N , H1, Or Vanax. Spyderco sells fixed blade in LC and H1. Thanks for watching

      The only way to water proof a fixed blade would be to use special epoxy and scale material that wouldn't absorb moisture. FRN , FRCP, G10, Zytel, Kraton, Acrylic, Etc. There's many to choose from.
