    Hi Jon 🙂
I came across your channel about a week ago and I just bought your book as I was watching this video 👍🏼 I turned 54 in October and I have loved pottery ever since I made my first piece in elementary school. It was an ashtray for my Dad 😄 it was in the shape of the letter J. His name was John too 😎 I never pursued my dream of being a Potter so I'm doing it now. It's something I have regretted my whole life so I guess better late than never, right? 🤷🏼‍♀️ I'm going to take a class soon - my husband actually bought me a wheel for my b-day which was a huge surprise 😲 I'm excited to see where this takes me. I love your videos, they are fun and informative and you get me all stirred up inside to get going on this new journey of mine. Your pieces are so cool, I just love seeing what you come up with. Please wish me luck 🤞🏼 I'm really praying I have a knack for this 🙏🏼 😄 thanks, Jon! God bless you

I think of it as a hobby that pretty much pays for itself and makes money for charities that I like. Anyway, I’ve gotten fairly good at it but at 77 years old I’m stuck with LOTS of pots that are unsold because I don’t like them or they have small imperfections. What to do with them?

I had already gotten your book and started to read it (along with many others) and I have been watching all the channels you suggested (and more). Wish me luck...I'm getting ready.

Electric wheels are very quiet. Check out the shimpo whisper or the Bailey wheels (which i have), They are quiet.

This would definitely be the ideal order of things, however, in a small area like where I live the closest Potter is over an hour away. I fell in love with wheel throwing by watching CZcams and was determined to try it out. The first experience I had was at a place called Klaystation which is mainly just for painting bisque ware but they offer a one time beginners wheel throwing class. The clay was already wedged and centered when we arrived and we got to make two very small items. There was no trimming or anything, basically we just got to operate the wheel and touch clay for about two hours and have something to take home. This only made me want to spend more time learning about throwing and a bit frustrated by all the steps I didn’t get to see in the class. I searched FOREVER for another class that would offer more. My local community college and the surrounding one doesn’t offer any ceramics classes. I ended up finding a potter who gives classes for beginners from her home studio. I am in the midst of taking those now (I’ve done 2 out of 6 classes so far.) I have only become more in love with throwing and it’s all I want to do! I recently blew a lot of my savings on buying a wheel and I plan to just practice and reclaim the clay I use for a while until I get good enough to keep my pieces. My teacher said she will fire my work for $10 a shelf in her kiln. So for now, i will be throwing in my grandparents barn and absorbing all the knowledge I can from CZcams, my classes, and a pottery book my grandpa bought me. When I move out (hopefully in about two years) I will make sure I have room to upgrade my studio and invest in a kiln and the electricity it requires.
I said all this for the people who may be watching this but are in the same boat as I was before I found my teacher. I know there are a lot of small towns that just don’t have any potters, like literally zero. Just wanted to share my story!
