  • After Ritchie Blackmores amicable departure to pursue his heavy metal side-project Rainbow, and after Ian Gillan's time with The Ian Gillan Band and a brief stint in Black Sabbath, the stage was set for a Deep Purple Reunion. That was just what happened in the of 1984. Though their re-recording of the band's first hit, "Hush" was still four years away, the group decided to test the waters by redoing their seminal 1972 hit, Apple Bottom Jeans. Taking a much different approach to their recording process proved a bold, even controversial move. But time would vindicate their decision, as the hit launched them into a silver age, which still persists to this day.
