They'll be running two-up (one driver drives while the other sleeps), 4-5 hour change over plus breaks in between (fuel drivers are licenced to carry dangerous goods and subject to more stringent rules than normal heavy vehicles), for a 1400km run i would expect they do two trips a week, maybe a third every other week. Companies are usually pretty flexible for long distance heavies but driving times are highly regulated in Australia and their schedules must fall inside of the allocated allowed driving times prescribed by law. Must pass regular medicals but good money if you can get the right position (around $50-60 an hour plus allowances & bonus, rate depends on company). And yeah, they drive pretty nicely on road, just gotta watch out for cows crossing the road throughout that station country.

As has been said there is regulations and rules to follow on driving times. Fuel trucks are Dangerouse goods. A road train driver with dangerous goods licence will be on top pay. Around 90 to 120 K per year. Some drivers could be away from home a month or more. Home a few days and go again. Others doing say Brisbane to Sydney and return, will be gone 36 hours, home 12 and gone 36 again. Also these road trains have set limited roads they can travel. Mainly on country roads and never in major capital cities.

This is an ad. For mitchells. These trucks are not that hard to drive, you would be surprised how quickly you get used too it. They don't need as much room to turn as you think. There also destroying our roads.
