Thank you I've googled like 70 times Where to go hunting in Texas and it hasn't showed me this once I can't stress this enough I love you
@@StoneKarnes-nl7oq awesome! Glad I can help! Making some more soon! Thanks for watching!
Let me know any questions you have! Iâll try my best to answer them as best as I can!
Have you seen any hogs out there at Sam Houston national forest?
@@cesararmandocasas7986 Iâve only seen them a handful of times but theyâre there. Iâve never intentionally hunted them, just bumped em. But I wanna try it this year. Thanks for watching! Best of luck!
Have you ever tried predator hunting on public land? Great content, thanks!
@@JustinEspinoza1985 no but Iâve always wanted to! Any tips?
Interesting thanks for the information
Of course! ThNk you for watching!
Nice video! Thanks for sharing some great information. Appreciate you and what you do buddy! Keep up the good work!
Thanks brother!
Would love to see more short videos doing a deep dive! Always look forward to a notification you posted a new video. Hopefully in the future you could do a fishing meet up or something!
Great suggestions bro! Iâm gonna definitely try this shorts out. Iâve been working on a meet up, just want to make sure everythingâs right, but itâs coming soon. Thanks for watching!
Much appreciated! You are good, your video was just right
Thanks brother! Best of luck out there!
Great video a lots of information !!! Thanks a lot you have answer all my questions!!
Thanks brotha! Glad it helped! Best of luck out there
Opening weekend is just a few short weeks away! good luck hope to see you postin!!
Hell yea! Best of luck and thanks for watching!
Great video. Been looking for this info for a while and Iâm just south of the Sam Houston National Forest
Thanks brother! Glad it helped! Best of luck out there and thanks for watching!
Good video and info - Thank you for sharing.
Glad it helped! Best of luck out there and thanks for watching!
The video Iâve been waiting for!!
Sorry it took so long! Thanks for watching!
@ABetterOutdoors great video for newbies. I'm lifetime hunt/fishing gut and #3 on hunter education when they started this program. Those who complain about public hunting land in Texas(yes can be tough), but still WAY cheaper than leases with NO guarantees you will have that lease next year(all expenses someone would put in that lease to make it seems better +cost of lease...do math). Wish I could show pictures of deer I got from public lands. Get further in , stay away from easy spots and other hunters. Successful
@@tiberiuswade8789 yea I learned a lot this year! Iâm confident Iâll get something in the forest next year! My email is in my channel profile, feel free to shoot me those pics, Iâd love to see them. Thanks for watching!!
Found the Old Sabine Bottom thatâs literally on my daily commute and hog hunting year round. Didnât know they were this common
Sweet!! Best of luck brother and thanks for watching!
Would give anything to get drawn for a pronghorn hunt! Also, on the Hunter Safety course, try to take it in person if you can. Youâll get more out of it. I am exempt from the requirement because of my birthday but I have still taken it THREE times (first when I was 12 and then twice more with each kid). The course is excellent.
Yea I apply every year for that one đ€đœ! And I didnât know they did in person, gonna take my daughter next year for sure! Thanks for watching!
Thank you so much kind of a first gen hunter and live in Texas up until this video everyone is kinda secretive on how to public land in Texas
Awesome man! Glad it helped out! Best of luck out there!
Awesome video. Definitely helps me to understand TX public land hunting.
Iâm not a Texas resident and would like to public hunt turkey. Any advice?
Man Iâve been chasing a public Turkey for years with no luck and they got rid of the unit I hunted in east Texas. Try west Texas, there are some units out there with Turkey. Thanks for watching!
As a Florida resident that has a hunt planned in the Texas panhandle this information is helpful. I actually didnât know about the public land permit before this video. Good job.
Thanks brother! Glad it helped! Best of luck out there and thanks for watching!
Texas always adding rubbish and every single area has different rules. It's stupid
@@AKFF320 it ainât for everyoneâŠ
@@ABetterOutdoors but it should be.
Great video for new hunters.
Thanks brotha! Hope it helps and best of luck out there!
Thank you we just got our rifles, gonna go test them out on Thursday and get our permits and course that same day and then hopefully well be out there next week or two. We live in Pearland so well probably check out sam houston national forest.
@@erickgalindo1300 hell yea! Let me know how it goes!
This was very helpful, I didnât know I had to have the course completed and I have gone hunting without it for 2 seasons now. I wonder what happens next, should we scout an area? How do we know what areas are good to hunt at and what are not? Is there a benefit to tree stands over walking around? Do you prefer fun or bow?
Glad it helped! The best advice I got is just get some boots on the ground. Everywhere has its differences but youâll see sign, just follow it. Thanks for watching and best of luck this season!
Hey man really good video! I want to become a hunter with a recurve bow. I already have a bowhunter education although is not required. Got my hunter education as well. Didnât know about this Public land at all. Thank you! Any advice in how to start hunting? I was thinking in trying rabbit hunting as it goes all year round. Again thank you!
Man those trad bows are tough to shoot, especially at a rabbit! Not sure what area youâre in but the Sam Houston National Forest is open year around for hog, that might be a good starting point with the trad. Thanks for watching!
Good information! If you need a hunting partner, Iâm down.
From Texas always trying to plan a trip to public land but donât go through with it man
You should do it man, itâs worth a try! Thanks for watching!
Air Force just moved me to San Antonio, I just need to find a place to get a couple Rio Turkeys for my teenage boys.
Man turkey is hard to come by as just a walk-in. Only way I know is getting drawn. You actually might still be able to apply for some hunts for spring Turkey. Best of luck and thanks for watching!
Just drive up and down i10 long enough and you may hit one. Had a buddy hit one in his big rig. Ended up in the passenger seat. Went through the windshield
Just found your channel. Thank you very much for putting it out there and how to start the process of hunting public land in Texas. Iâm in north Idaho and only hunt public land for elk, deer and bear. My son just moved to Conroe Texas and gave me a grandson so I am going to be spending a lot of time down there hog hunting now and trying to learn new areas. Use to be an avid hog hunter before I moved to Idaho, but never hunted Texas. Anyway, thanks again from up north. PS hit me up if you ever want to hunt elk in our beautiful north Idaho pan handle. Always looking to meet new hunting friends in other states. Keep up the good work and I just subscribed to your channnel.
Thanks for the sub brotha! Congrats on the grandson and best of luck out here in Texas when you come down! Thanks for watching!
Hey there sir Im looking for the same! I have a hunting buddy in Alabama but now that im in Texas, i dont know any hunters. Idaho sounds amazing. Ive never hunted an Elk.
Idelkslayer, Would you like to exchange emails or numbers bro? Idaho sounds beautiful. Im in central Texas. I have a vacant property you can stay at for FREE if you ever decide to hunt down here đ save costs on the trip right? Im just a southern guy looking to make new hunting buddies.
â@@ABetterOutdoorssir, ive in the san antonio area and im searching for a place to hunt... i looked on the texas wildlife website and they have lotteries that seem nearly impossible to win and expensive.
ââ@@ABetterOutdoors is there a place maybe an hour or 2, or 3 away from san antonio/ Austin area that you recommend? Im completely new to Texas hunting and feel lost.
Oklahoma tag is steep for one deer but its still cheaper than most texas stuff and they have MASSIVE amounts of public land
Iâll definitely have to check it out, not a terrible drive from Houston. Thanks!
Bro thank you for this video. I bought a dirt cheap plane ticket to go sandhill crane hunting on Jan 16th, 20 min south of lubbock because of all the noise there and My best friend moved to the Dallas area 3 years ago and it will be a good reunion. Can't afford to hire a guide. What do you think? I'm learning about hunting in Texas, and I've never visited there. Starting to get some help and resources from Facebook. Any help you can offer would be a tremendous help to me. I live in mesa az Thank you
Man I donât have much experience with Sandhill Crane, and definitely not up north in that area. I actually went on my first waterfowl hunt last week. I do know there is plenty of public property out by Lubbock tho, about 15. Iâm sure youâre bound to find a good spot if you look enough. Thanks for watching!
If we took the safety course many years ago as a kid is it continuing on our record or we need a paper verification on us at all times?
Technically you are supposed to be able to show proof of certification any time while hunting public. Iâve never been asked for it but it wouldnât hurt to take again just to have that digital certification. Donât forget tâs just $20 with the coupon code below. Thanks for watching!
You apparently go to the one most often near me. I have never hunted in Texas. How do you normally go about hunting in the Sam Houston? Do you do a stand or do you walk around?
I usually go up a tree with climbing sticks and hunt out of a saddle! You should check it out! Thanks for watching!
Hey bro. Looks like youâre from Houston like me. Have you seen any large bucks in Sam Houston?
Iâve see a few nice ones out there and have had my opportunities just havenât got one down. But theyâre definitely out there, just gotta put boots on the ground.
If I have a hunters safety course from my state do I still need one from Texas
@@shawnthomas6782 Itâs dependent on the state, but Iâd suggest just taking the one for Texas just to be safe.
Does all of this apply to out of state hunters? I'm from Arkansas
Yup! Youâd just get an out of state license, thatâs all. Thanks for watching!
I live in Kentucky and have my orange card do I still need to take the hunter safety or does my orange card cover it for Texas?
Iâm not too sure about an orange card but I do know the Texas course listed below is valid in all 50 states. Thanks for watching!
do you just show up to the public land hunts when you get your permit?
Yup! Show up and check-in through the My Texas Hunt Harvest App.
Man Iâm from San Antonio and I have to drive 3 and a half hours to San Angelo to hunt public land. Massive deer though! Hoping to get my first one this year
Hell yea bro, itâll be worth it! Best of luck! Thanks for watching!
Did you get your buck? We are considering making the trip to hunt San Angelo SP or Twin Buttes for a few days before our next trip to hunt with Heart of Texas Bowhunting in October.
@@662OutdoorAdventures I didnât get it on public land had to pay 150 for it but got a decent doe so canât complain! Tons of massive bucks though
@@johnpeterson730 congrats on your first one!
Here's a question for you. I'm a Canadian hunter, and although hunting whitetail, moose, black bear and small game is great, I have always wanted to hunt pronghorn and hogs.
Am I able to take the online hunting course as an alien to come down and hunt hogs and in turn apply in the draw for pronghorn?
That is correct. Youâd just have to get your hunters ed and non-resident license and there are no residency restrictions to the draw system here. Hog are fairly available through public land and low cost on private but Iâve âheardâ ppl applying for 10+ years for that pronghorn. Hope it helps, thanks for watching! Good luck up there!
@@ABetterOutdoors I expected as much for pronghorn, we have a similar draw system here for moose. Have a good one lad!
How do I get them public land books thank h
@@shawnthomas6782 it comes in the mail shortly after getting your public permit! Thanks for watching!
How about Texas hill country public?
Thereâs plenty of good dove units and Iâve always wanted to check out Granger PHL for deer
Wait you have to have a hunter safety cert?
@@hitmanhartman1394 yes sir! To hunt any public land in Texas you gotta have it. Thanks for watching!
@@ABetterOutdoors I took a hunter safety course in NM like 10 years ago but I seen that it was like $25 so I'm gonna go ahead and just do it, I'm moving to Texas next week and if all goes to plan I want to hunt this year
@@hitmanhartman1394 yea itâs decently worth it to not risk it! Best of luck this season! Let me know how it goes!
How can you tell if a public hunting area has elk
Thereâs no elk hunting in Texas that I know of. But every public unit will come with its specific rules and regulations found on the TPWD site linked below. Thanks for watching!
@@ABetterOutdoors elk are considered an Invasive Species, and donât show up in the rules.

From Texas, but South Dakota is much more better.
New to hunting can we go hunt together?
I usually hunt solo brotha but best of luck out there and thanks for watching!
Public hunting here is a joke. If you aint born into daddy's money or land or know someone you aint hunting.
Yea itâs definitely tough! But itâs all I got! Thanks for watching!
@@ABetterOutdoors yessir understood.. its all iv had in the past as well thats why im more into bass fishing. Way more accessible.
