I am not sure Sam was “murdered” per se. He was shot in by a an African American motel manager in self defense. Do I think he was robbed by the girl he went there with? Yes I do, and I don’t believe her rape story at all. Was there a government conspiracy to kill Sam Cooke? I seriously doubt it, he was never considered a fire brand by anyone. He had the support of a major label and millions of white fans. A Change Is Gonna Come was not even a big hit at the time. Was there a conspiracy between the girl and the manager to rip off Sam Cooke that got out of hand? Perhaps. The LAPD in its typical racist ways didn’t even bother to do a real investigation so we will never really know the truth.

I read a book by his friend, who shared his account of what happened that day. Malcolm told the organizers not to pat down attendees. In the run-up, he made several comments about being hunted and "a dead man already." He knew what was coming and wasn't afraid.
Maybe he wanted it to happen in a public space with witnesses, considering the FBI was the likely culprit. The fact that he was murdered in a room full of witnesses and 58 years later the alleged assassins get exonorated tells you Malcolm was right about everything.

@@bigalbigs1 At that point Malcolm had enemies left and right. Once he left the Nation of Islam, he wanted to get more involved in politics, as opposed to just religion as Elijah Muhammad. He wanted to report the crime of racism to the United Nations and form alliances with Afrika. With America in the middle of the Vietnam War, this made him a threat.
Also, after leaving the NOI, there was tension left between him and Mr. Muhammad, a case of professional jealousy. And the tension only grew as Malcolm learned true Islamic practices and publicly debunked Mr. Muhammad’s teachings and principles.

I think of my brother every time I hear this song , we were young an incarcerated, I was 15 an he was 16 , we shared the same cell , one day one of the CO'S put a movie on called Malcolm X an when this scene came on the whole room got quiet , we all just about cried , an we all sung the part of this song that we remembered from that day forward 😂, 2 years later my brother was murdered by his best friend , I'm 35 years old now 😢😢 time flies , thank God for memories ❤

I watch this movie every couple of years. Everytime that I do, I sense how much the whole movie has been leading up to this moment. This is cinema at its finest. Malcolm is forever my favorite icon. The true definition of human transformation, from being a slave to racism, then to his vices, then to the Nation of Islam, only when he truly realized his freedom, they shot him. But he never died. Never will.
