  • Good evening, it's time for the live drawing of The Daily Number and The Pennsylvania Lotto Numbers for Friday July 12th, 1985. I hope you enjoy this nostalgic lottery drawing.
I do not own the rights to The Pennsylvania Lottery or WPVI. This is uploaded for nostalgic and historical purposes.

Loved the original DAILY NUMBER theme. Very funky.

Major childhood nostalgia for the WPVI aspect of this, especially Peter Jennings and TTD.
There's a couple major cliffhangers here though...
    1) Did Keith make it as an aspiring writer?
    2) Did Mabel ditch her lazy husband?
According to LinkedIn he is a "Digital Marketing Strategist" now. As per disturbingly easily available information on the internet, she appears to still be married to the same guy. I was thinking that maybe these two would make a Love Connection on TTD, but it wasn't to be.

THis TTD episode would have aired seven weeks into the new season, as they always IIRC started the SUmmer reruns with the season premiere, this would ergo have aired originally October 26, 1984 on WPVI.

Anybody have a download of the Lotto theme? Not the Daily Number song, the Lotto theme.

How long did they use this music for the PA Lottery drawings?

    • @spacemanmonster23

Not an expert but I want to say it was around the beginning of the 1985/86 Or midway of the 1986 season. That's when they went to their gold/wood and beige lighting for their new set.
Plus I think that is when Jeopardy! and Wheel took over TTD and Joker's spots respectively

I believe the theme that was used in the late 80s and early 90s is by Michael Karp, correct?

@@spacemanmonster23 The "Pennsylvania Lottery" theme took over in mid-1986. For the first few weeks they still used the background that you saw here but then eventually they remodeled the studio and changed the Pennsylvania Lottery emblem to what it is now.

@@spacemanmonster23 It was mid 86. I remember because I hated the music change. The original music played was awesome. As for the set it was changed a couple months later along with the change to the Pennsylvania Lottery logo that is still used today.

I don’t understand the point of the senior citizen witness. She wears glasses and she’s standing on the opposite side if the number. On top of that you have a camera pointing right at the ball so you’re witnessing it yourself.

After Nick Perry and the 666 scandal a few years earlier, the Lottery thought it was a good idea to have a "Senior Citizen Witness" there to keep an eye out for such shenanigans in the future.

Yep, it's because of the scandal in 1980. They still do it to this day.
