  • Vladimir Putin's propaganda machine is trying to turn the letter 'Z' into a symbol of domestic support for his war in Ukraine, but his government can't hide the fact that the world's economic war against Russia is succeeding, as evidenced by major brands like McDonalds and Coca-Cola pulling out of the country at lightning speed. #Colbert #Comedy #Monologue

      @i'm the king Except Ukraine didn’t join NATO and America didn’t invade Cuba. Plus, NATO is already on Russia’s border in other countries and isn’t threatening to invade Russia. The reason Ukraine wanted to join NATO is because Putin wanted to invade and he finally did.
      Nice try, comrade but the only threat to Russia is Putin. He’s the one who stole Russia’s wealth, freedom, and security. The best thing that could happen to Russia is for them to arrest Putin so they can take back the billions of dollars he stole and use it to make Russia great again.

    • @overseastom
      @overseastom Před 2 lety +7

      @i'm the king one of the main problems with this logic though is that, even if Russia does "reclaim" Ukraine, it'll be sharing a border with NATO countries anyway - Poland, and Hungary. Admittedly, it's a smaller border than the one with Ukraine, but it should be a moot point anyway - Ukraine should be free to make its own decisions re geopolitics and alliances. If the situation was reversed and Ukraine was trying to invade Russia, we'd be protesting and boycotting them instead. NATO countries don't invade places to seize land. NATO was involved with the wars in Bosnia & Herzegovina in 1995, and Afghanistan after 9/11, as response to the actions of the madmen there that committed and were planning further atrocities and attacks. NATO's actions are not comparable to what Putin has done. I've listened to John Mearsheimer's lecture on "Why is Ukraine the West's Fault?", and he made many of the same points you did, so I don't want you to feel personally attacked by our disagreement here, but I still think Putin is a madman and Ukraine should be free to make its own alliances with peaceful nations. Anything else feels like victim-blaming, and I don't think Mearscheimer or you make a compelling argument otherwise.

    • @iainbagnall4825
      @iainbagnall4825 Před 2 lety +5

      @@zephyrus3554 multiple reasons; Russia's military is held back by corruption (budget does not make it into forces). Additionally, lack of training of troops for offensive operations. Poor co-ordination between units in Russian military. Inadequate logistical support; Russian forces are very dependent on rail transport for logistics and have like 1/10 the number of trucks western militaries have, so limits offensive operations. Also, they underestimated the Ukrainian resolve to fight, but also the effectiveness of their professional troops who have been fighting defensive operations against Russians for years now, and the rapid reaction brigades they have that quickly counterattack Russian advances (very WW2 german tactic that actually lol, German commanders were famous for the rapid counterattacks without being ordered to do so by higher authority) and targeted their fragile and lacklustre logistics (fuel trucks, trucks carrying shells and rockets for artillery). Ukrainians also are defending, so they are constantly falling back on their own supply lines, their own stockpiles, their own prepared defences, whereas the Russians are constantly moving further away from theirs as they advance.
      However, these advantages wont last. Russia has been observed moving hundreds if not thousands of commandeered civilian trucks and transports to bolster their logistics up to the Ukraine front (although this will have its own delicious knock-on impact on their domestic economy, hee hee) and as they advance they will surely open up and use Ukrainian railway lines to feed supply depots in Ukraine. Moreover, Ukraine's internal economy and supply chain has been massively disrupted, and as the refugee crisis worsens they will be running out of food in warehouses, electricity in the grid (Russians have been capturing all electricity generating infra), fuel in gas stations and depots etc, whereas the Russians supplies will build up behind them as their steamroller finally starts creeping forward.
      If Russia makes it all the way to the western edge of Ukraine (seems too risky to get that close to NATO, I think they want Kiev and then they will negotiation from strength, vs if Ukraine can hold Kiev and cost the Russians too much, they may negotiate from a position of some weakness) then the refugee situation will get worse and worse as more and more human beings are crammed into a smaller and smaller space with fewer and fewer resources to sustain them, and of course end up in neighbouring countries.

      No Poland offered on the condition that the us backfilled. There is a significant logistics problem in getting the jets to Ukraine. Originally they were going to have them launch from a polish airfield near the border by just bringing in ukranian pilots
      So now the us would either need to fly the planes in themselves, which would start a war. Ship the planes in by truck, which would get blown up during transport 100%, or have ukranian pilots travel all the way to Germany and fly all the way back to Ukraine...
      Poland made an offer and realized it put them in a bad position, so they tried to still get the backfill jets but take no responsibility for sending the jets in. It's understandable, but it's kinda scummy to not even discuss it and publicly drop it in another allies lap after people agreed with your condition in order to do it.
