Hi, incredible footage. Have only been told stories about this flooding. My grandparents have owned Pipedream (narrow boat towards the start) since new. Amazing to see what it was actually like 👍. Pleased to say the boat is still around today. Looking as good as it did then 👍
I can remember driving to Towcester and the traffic coming to a halt because the rain was so fierce. Later on I found about the floods. As a telephone engineer I was asked to work extra hours. I was cycling to work at 07.20 and then getting back at 22.00, going to bed and going back to work. This went on for days. I worked seven days a week anyway because I just loved the job. I lost a load of weight and did not even notice because I was so focused on my work. It was a neighbour that asked me if I had lost weight. I did not even realise I had. At the time it felt like an adventure trying to repair as many peoples phones as possible. I also had to put emergency phones in to churches and other buildings that took in the people that had just lost their homes. I am better at my job now, but that youthful energy has lost it's edge a bit.
I remember this quite well. I looked out of my kitchen window and noticed the fields were sparkling in the early morning sunlight revealing the flooded fields opposite. I lived in Briar Hill at the time...

Thanks for posting. That's my father at 1:17 doing his best to clear the water with a rake 😆

It flooded because some one ordered the flood gates to be kept closed so they could look for a body from a sunken narrow boat....
That's right my mother and father heard it on a police scanner at the time but the authorities didn't want to own up to it
Important local history
Remember this like it was yesterday
i remember this like it was 20 years ago...even had few paid days off work as work-place was flooded haha
Me and my mates went to billing and found a peddle boat on its own and went round some of the site on it was funny as 😂
