The great thing about your Trucker talks is: you don’t BS anything like many CZcamsrs do. And you don’t like to talk down to some drivers we may not like what they wear. You are just about facts, and your own “oops I did it, and oops I did it again 😂.” Having both drivers and office views helps understanding a more full picture.

All these guys gotta loose the "cool" and the drop visors and upper window shades and do what the truck was designed to do. Get up off the floor and look out the top of the window(s). The engineers knew what works ergonomically. Float that seat as high as you can comfortably and ride high and proud. @growthefarmup2606 Před 3 lety +1

Amen, rebuilt drivetrane T660 with new machined block 3406e CAT here. Those "factory" APU's run worse than the motor on the new trucks!!! Mounted a cng tank and run a nat gas inverter generator, way quieter, more amps, runs my mini split a.c and RV style heater, hooked it up to charge batteries when I flick a switch in cab, block, oil pan heater, etc. it's a 6 KW 110 volt generator. Plenty of 110 to run a small house! Took little engineering to get it all set up, but it's been a money maker for a year with basically no down time and comfortable while not having to idle. No emmisions BS!!! Had a new Freight shaker a couple years ago, nope, never again will I even open the door to a freightliner, what is fuel mileage worth when u spend 6 weeks a year in the shop paying for repairs not making money? Simpler the better. Yea the cascadia got like 8 mpg and my cat 3406e is 6.5. But I havnt been in a shop for anything other than routine maintenance in 100k miles. And I can actually ride for hours in a row cuz my KW660 truck has a actual front drive shocks and doesn't shake itself to pieces over 63mph!!! I don't feel safe in even a brand new freightliner, cheapest rattling plastic trucks ever built with throw away EGR, DEF emmisins motors after 500K miles. New is junk,, we built a generation of junk trucks for the transportation industry that is going to be Rebuilt exempt or thrown in a landfill.

Hi. I never comment on anything but I just had to on this video. Been owner operator since 1998 I have owned 43 trucks since. I own currently own 3 trucks. 2 -2012 volvos and a 2000 w900 studio sleeper with a Cat 6nz 18 speed. My 2nd w900 I have owned in the past 3 years. I love the Volvo for its wheelbase makes backing much easier and fuel economy. other than that w900 is a great truck. First thing I did was I got rid of drop visor then pulled out passenger seat. I’m 6’6 weigh 320 lbs I had to push the seat back so I can stretch my legs. My 2000 western star 4964ex n14 Cummins (great engine) had plenty of room ! ELD EXEMPT TOO.
I guess it comes down to what you like makes you smile. However a Cat engine is one of the most reliable engines I have had. My worst luck
I have had is with ISX and DETROIT DD13 plus money pits. good luck to everyone!

C15 cat, 18 speed manual, window visor, sittin cool in my stool with no air (its still a little uncomfortable in the knees as a 5' 9" guy), long hood and no turn radius (I was proud of the all the tight dairies and feedlots I was able to maneuver that beast around). I suppose new rigs, automatics and fuel economy is the name of the game for MOST companies. Hope your ol' truck goes to someone who will show her TLC and keeps her on the road! Question for all u new truck advocates... what is fuel milage worth when u spend 6-8 weeks a year in a dealerships shop arguing with a warranty company or paying for repairs WHILE NOT MAKING MONEY!!! Simpler the better when u calculate the true annual cost of running emmisions trucks u soon find fuel milage doesn't count for much when your on the side of the road. Keep the wheels turning for the trucking industry. Rebuild pre emmision motors, a cat 3406e is a million Mile + motor if u do a true machine block rebuild. Also how do you drive those new cascadias??? I don't feel safe, it feels like a drive tire is always about to fall off, as the truck rattles itself to pieces at any speed ove 63mph. Biggest piece of rattling junk on the road today... a 2022 freightliner Cascadia. They don't call em freight shakers for nothing. And their new Detroit emmisions motors are 350K mile throw away motors or rebuild exempt!

If going modern means you get to keep doing what you love, and your health doesn’t suffer, then that should be all the reason you need.
W900 are beautiful rigs, and yes it’s pre emissions, but looks and mechanics alone don’t keep you happy.
Now, if you could change the visor and seat to something that kept you comfy and healthy, in that beautiful beast, that would be nice, but ultimately you don’t need to justify decisions that can affect your health.

You will pay more for the maintenance with a new emissions truck, you will be 5 minutes later at the customer with that auto gearbox, but you won't get so tired while you drive, you will let the gearbox do all the hard work for you (you still can put it on manual and just push buttons) and you will have much more room when you are off duty but the most important, you, me and our children will breathe cleaner air.

Fuel is by far the biggest expense running a truck. At least over there y'all's fuel prices is only in the mid to high 3s per US Gallon. Here in Australia we get way worse mileage and pay around $5US per gallon.
Any fuel saving is a massive benefit...so a 25% fuel saving such as what Brian is stating the difference between his W9 and a new Cascadia is staggeringly good.
I limit myself to 55mph (truck highway limit is 62) and am saving 8% in fuel...plus the far better ride on our deplorable roads. Saving fuwl anyway you can is essential to surviving as an owner operator

I faced the same problems you did after my 1st year on the road I couldn't handle it either. Im still driving a W900 but I got into a truck that I can get out and stretch my legs for a few minutes every hour to hour and a half. I bought my own dump truck and run local construction. I can step out on each end and stretch made all the difference in the world for my back and hips add to that the fact I can sleep in my own bed at home every night. It was my answer and it works for me.

Or if you had a cab over you had to crawl over the doghouse to get back to the bunk. No way could You stand up anywhere. Try getting out of the bunk and crawling back thru be hole to start your day. Thanks for sharing. It might be a extremely valuable knowledge for a lot of people wanting to start a business in trucking. Me personally wouldn't ever consider buying an old truck if I were crazy enough to try being an owner/operator. The older trucks are a nightmare to drive and way to expensive to fuel. The narrow cab in older us trucks is an astonishing mistake from the manufacturer and shows no consideration for the drivers what so ever.

Brian, so sorry you had to sell your truck. We never stop learning. I like to sit up high, too, mostly because I can see over that hood better, as well as out the side windows. I'm currently running one of those new Cascadias with the cavernous cabin, but my heart longs for a W900! I am realizing that the bad drivers around me stress me some, but it's all of the "back seat driver" technology that really irritates me to no end. I am a HUGE fan of the optimized idle, though. I guess we have to take the good with the bad. I hope your next truck is a perfect fit!

You are the second driver that I seen on the youtube channel with the same health issue, I thought I was the only one. My advice, toss out the passenger seat 💺so you don't have to struggle with tight space beside making some adjustments on the driver seat side in case you change your mind 😉😀. Good luck 👍.

There's so many pro's and cons to both sides. I loved my classic style petebilt but I'm not going to say it was the most comfortable or spacious because it wasn't. Having driven everything but a volvo, the newer aero truck's are very comfortable and have a good bit more useable space. Jo blow might say "who needs storage and useable space" well the guys out there for more then a week at a time really do like it. Having been out on the road for 2 months straight the 579 I drove as a company grunt was great for packing stuff in and being organized, my pete 388 wasn't nearly as good, better then any Kenworth I've had the miss fortune of driving but still not great.

Your fears are legit, but say if you take that extra savings from the new truck and place it all in savings account for emission repairs you think that would help with the stress? Also, I haven't had any issues with emissions on the volvos or cascadia's in a few years. However, the cascadia dd15 I get a egr code that goes away. Volvo does have a check light that turns on but both of the trucks seems to be a false positive code

Bostrom makes a good low ride seat that you could air up a bit and still sit low, plus mount it back a few inches on a plate for increased leg room ..and if you put a smaller visor on you might find the sweet spot of vision and sitting comfort before you give up on that W900...w,orth a shot. Not much money to see if you can keep her...my son is 6-2, 260# and he had a new Bostrom low ride put in on a plate, mounted it back about 3 inches and he said it's a huge improvement .

Just remove the visor in the front of windshield, I drive a freightliner classic without a visor and have no problem seeing out the window. I did have to buy an extra bug eye mirror for the passenger side due to the truck having smoker windows and the little bar blocks the factory window. Oh and my truck is a high roof 2 bunk truck, I specifically chose that, can't love in a midroof much less a flat top.

My two cents and it ain't worth much but, that particular brand of seat I believe is your problem. My personal experience with that seat was the same and at the time I was not really dealing with any hip issues. A couple buddies of mine had the same issue. Seats are like mattresses. It's worth it to spend the money and get a high quality seat. I also pulled a flat bed. That was the root cause of a lot of my pain
