Great video, good info, thank you
brilliant < your leading the way for the newcomers
Thank you! I hope to have another video soon. The engine block and crankshaft are at an engineering company getting work done.
A mash hammer it is thanks bud . I been at it for a few hours trying to get in with Stanley blade ever ! . A mash seems brutal. But if that’s what Landrovers do . Thanks again
Hello foreman. I'm looking at a Jaguar XE 20d 2017. According to the garage, it has a problem. He says the engine makes noise but is drivable. Does that mean the timing chain or connecting rod bearing is damaged?
It's impossible to say without looking at it. If it's driving then more likely to be the timing chains. It's very possible to have underlying engine damage though.
Hi can you do this job with the engine in the car ? Thanks
Hi, yes you will need to take the gearbox out and subframe depending on what model you're working on.
Hi, um with common issue like this would u recommend me to buy it in my 20s local sales for that car go for like 12.5-30k ish mostly driven like 100k-125k.. Is it worth the risk?
Hi, thanks for your comment. It depends how much you buy it for. I think anything around that mileage you'll need to do a full engine rebuild. This could cost £4,000 - £6,000 GBP. You can save some money on labour if you're capable of doing the work yourself. I think with regular oil changes these engines perform better than they have been doing.
Amazing video. A quick question -> Where did get the timing chain kit from? Any specific brand or it's the OEM and what cost? Thanks!
Hi, thanks for your comment. When I bought the car it was a non runner. The previous owner had replaced the timing chains in an attempt to get the engine running properly again. There seem to be a few companies out there offering oe quality chains although you are always safer with factory parts. Some companies in Europe can get parts directly from JLR which work out good value.
@@MechanicMatters Are you really safer with JLR parts though... considering these chains are failing quite a lot!?
@@khalidacosta7133 that's a good point. I'm sure there are companies out there who have sourced better materials, although I can't recommend any.
Hi could I ask a question how does the upper chain tensioner work. With fitting a new one is there anything you need to do with it other than screw it in ?
Hi Nath, the new tensioner will come in the service position and the chain will remain slack. Once you have torqued the tensioner, press the chain towards the tensioner with steady force. The tensioner should then release and take up the slack in the chain automatically.
@@MechanicMatters great thanks for the advice 👍🏼
En Español por favor.
Hi Alfie, do you have an email I can use to get in contact with you? My Jag has timing chain issues and need to get it fixed. Thank you
well wont be buying anything with this engine in . Any design that makes you take the gearbox of to service the timing chain is just plain stupid most designs dont require you to do this so will spend my money on them . Buy a car with the ford based engine in much better unit
