In a small town some workmen arrived to install a mail collection box but they didn’t have the special key to adjust the metal band that went around the pole. So they slipped the hoop over the top of the wooden pole but alas it got stuck at seven feet above the ground. It stayed this way for a week.

We had a store in town for several decades called “Mags and F*gs” (minus the *). It was the best magazine shop in town. I worked in bookstores and just had the usual mass-market magazines so if someone came in looking for something niche we would send them there. Anyone who didn’t know of the shop would look askance at you and you would have to explain the they sold magazines and cigarettes. (The fact that the owners were gay and it was as much a play on words was something that most people knew).
I had been sending people there for several years. One day a man came in for a military magazine if I recall and I directed him there. He look SHOCKED, more shocked than usual. In my mind I re-ran what I has said and realized that I said “for” instead of “and”! I was horrified.
I apologised and assured him that that I would never deliberately call it what I did. I’m not sure he was convinced but he didn’t say anything else about it.
And wouldn’t you know it that from then on I would catch myself saying “for” instead of “and”
I had to stop just before “and” to make sure that I said it instead of “for”.

That's older than grandad's socks, that is. *** sidenote Be thankful I can still spell a bit, and managed the correct placement of the "c" and "s" and in the proper amount in the word "socks". Socks is a dangerous word if you get a "rambunctious "c" and it just decides it wants to be up in the driver's letter. It's dangerous to switch consonants in mid-sentence. You wonder what the neighbours must think. ... and poor old grandad's got cold feet . No report in on Willie, and you know what, I really do not want to know. He might not. Old and cold. Not the combo you'd be looking for. Cheers ;)

I was amazed when, each time, not only did you not recognize me, you also thought that I knew what I was talking about. So I figure you ended up somewhere near Paris. No? Turkey? REALLY? Wow.
