These were the fastest road legal car of their time. Still a small block by US terms but out of the box put out big block power. They reputedly had 100 BHP more than spec at the rear wheels. These cars were basically built for one race the Bathurst 500 which manufacturers needed to build 200 identical spec road registered example to pass homologation for our US friends. They then ran in a year long series called the Australian Turing car series. We also used to run them in a series called the Toby lee series at Oran park south of Sydney under lights at night. The most fantastic racing you have ever seen, and the track was jam packed with fans cheering on their favourite brand. The Torana XU1 a two door coupe with a big straight six that weighed in at approx half the weight of the big HO and the Chrysler Charger e49, again a big Hemi 6 running triple Webber carbs. They were the great days of Australian touring cars. This was an exceptional replica thanks for sharing.

      300 not 200 units.
And as a casual observer the battery should be placed left to right and not front to back.

Only 8 XY GT's were ever built in black, 7 were autos, and one manual. Only one black Phase 3 was ever built which is a manual for a total of 9 genuine GT's in black, most which survive. I like the black with the white trim combination on this vehicle.

Here is a story. There were 2 XY GTHOs bought in Mildura Vic new. One by Bill Fisher and i forget the other guys name. Anyhow Billys car is the white one that was the first $mill HO sold i am told. Anyhoo the story is that both owners were sent an update exhaust to replace what i think was a louder (nice) stainless system with a choked up steel system. Billys car was famous for rattling the shop windows in Langtree ave Mildura, he also stated jokingly that compared to his Jag sports car of the day, he could get the crows with this one (of course you cant in reality). Billy neglected to fit the "update" exhaust and the other guy was probably shattered with his. I also remember Billy sold his car in i think the late 80s for 25K to a store manager of one of his Supermarkets. Bill Fishers HO remains the most famous car ever in Mildura. One last thing, a friend that worked for Billy used the car in his wedding along with a GT and i think a couple of mock ups. Word is none of them could run with the legend.

Most replicated car in Australia the XY Falcon 500 to GT. This is a very nice XY Falcon sedan and the white interior is an unusual choice for a replica (the most common XY variant today) but I like it over the usual black interior.
