Bob Brunning has it backwards. Mick wanted Lindsey, the guitar player in the band. Not Stevie. And wasn’t looking for another female band member. But Lindsey was the one who said that he and Stevie were a package deal. So Mick asked Christine if she could go on with another female member, to which she said as long as we get along. So they took Lindsey, and Stevie, and very soon realized Stevie Nicks was a great musician in her own right. So Bob has it backwards.
How could he get something so widely well know like that absolutely wrong. Cant' believe the rest of it then.
Yes! Dead wrong. As a matter of fact, in private conversations with Stevie herself, and producer Richard Dashut, the following was discussed. Having two female lead vocalists, and songwriters on top of that, could have been absolutely disastrous. Considering the sudden exits of Kirwin and Spencer, Mick was even more apprehensive about venturing into another lineup which hadn't not worked out could have spelled the end of the band. Lyndsey was reluctant to part with Stevie and, well, we all know the rest.
There were only two successful bands during the 70's with 2 female lead singers, ABBA and Heart. ABBA was humongous as we all know and the girls were gorgeous. Heart, come on, Anne and Nancy were total babes. Stevie said to me something that I don't think was ever discussed in mainstream, and that was the fear of being a cliche in the music world. Fans can be very fickle. They could have gone to say, oh shit, another band with 2 pretty girls just because it was the in thing at the time. Fortunately the first 2 albums blew everyone out of the water. And the Mac girls did get along famously from the first minutes they met. There was no animosity, jealousy, or compromises between them. Deeply saddened by the death of Christine and all the other members are in absolute shock.

You are absolutely correct there. I thought the exact same thing whilst watching the video. it was the other way round concerning Stevie & Lindsey. And also, didn't Stevie & Lindsey all go out for a meal with the band too. To see if they they could gel & get along with each other, as well.
@@Mark28644 it kind of played out like this: Jess Nicks had spoken to Stevie sometime after Polydor dropped their contract because of poor sales and such. He told Stevie, listen; you're not happy, you and Lyndsey are not happy. Why don't you put a deadline on this music career and if by then you guys haven't secured anything tangible from where you can succeed and prosper, I will send you back to college and I will pay for it.
So they did, and were in Colorado somewhere when either Richard or Ken called Lyndsey and told him that Mick Fleetwood was looking for a lead guitar and he was interested in hiring him. That's when Lyndsey said that he and Stevie were a package deal. They agreed to meet at a Mexican restaurant in LA and, the rest is history.

This is the silliest “documentary “ I’ve ever watched.
This documentary misses several things, why the band was called it’s name, green basically knew at some point he was going to leave and didn’t want it to be called Peter greens fleetwood Mac, they also playing down the talent of Danny Kirwan.

I like this documentary. But I do not like documentaries that get their facts incorrect. Two things, Mick Fleetwood asked Lindsay to join. He wanted Lindsay, not Stevie at first. It was Lindsey Buckingham who said he and Stevie were a package deal or it was a no go secondly, Stevie Nicks is the most prolific songwriter of the three Lindsay and Christine used to call her the mad songwriter, because of all the songs she constantly wrote and they stockpiled thus her solo career that she wanted those are the facts Jack.
Lindsay had to finish and arrange her Fleetwood songs. And she had to collaborate with others cause she couldn't do it all. Mist notably Tom Petty
It's weird because in later interviews, Lindsey would say he did all the work in Fleetwood Mac but somehow Stevie gets all the credits because she's the vocalist? I think it was in that interview after he got kicked out of the band in 2018. He's probably js just bitter. He even said they'd prefer to keep Stevie who couldn't even play a musical instrument over him.
The Bob Welch years I think are some of their best work, at least before Lindsay and Stevie joined. He saved them from breaking up. He was a great guitarist and songwriter.
Mick Fleetwood only wanted a guitar player like Lindsey Buckingham Stevie was a after thought Lindsey didn't want to join without his then girlfriend (Stevie Nicks) he said they came as a PACKAGE DEAL! GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT!
I agree with the person who points out that the story about Lindsay & Stevie, that it was Lindsey they wanted. Reading that it didn't sound right. What a great band, and RIP for Christine, she's very much missed.
It's good to see that Danny Kirwan has at least been mentioned. I only watched about 18minutes of it but there were already some inaccuracies. Also, they don't announce who is speaking.
Marge was the 1st album put on CD. CD didn't come out in 1976. It this the best info y'all can come up with.
Nice idea for a doc, but they chose terrible people to interview. It seemed that each of them were throwing out their guesses about what went on (with numerous 'mistakes', conflicting with accounts by the members of the band).

Because there was a time Bob had worked at stopping the band from doing anything without his permission. They had to buy him out (or cheat him out) of his deal with FMac. He committed suicide over it.

I don't understand the disrespect towards Lindsey - one of top 10 - 20 guitarists of all time. The fact that no one bothered to correct it is concerning. I don't even want to watch anymore if you don't even know the history of Lindsey and Stevie becoming a part of it.

@@samduarte5393from what I understand, he was suffering with schizophrenia mixed with heavy LSD use. So he didn’t “lose his marbles”, he was mentally ill, untreated and using a substance that made him worse.
I thought that it was LIndsey that FM wanted, not Stevie, and it was Lindsey who said that they had to take her or he wouldn't join.
We're getting conflicting information because I listened to a different documentary yesterday and they said that they wanted Lindsey and he said he would come but they had to take Stevie, and here they said the opposite....

Stevie Nicks wrote many of the hit songs, she is in Hall of Fame rock & roll for Fleetwood Mac & for her own band 'Stevie Nicks', dual rock & roll Hall of Famer, her 'genius' songwriting, singing, performer is underrated by far... stop glorifying Lindsey, glorify Stevie she deserves it.
I read that Stevie broke up w/ Lindsey due to him slamming her unto the roof of a car hood, and here he kicks her in the leg, he was physically abusive, she left for good reason, smart, men do not change.
Of course they do, otherwise we'd all still be on coke.
Sorry dude. If it wasn't for Buckingham Nick's. She would be nothing. And Lindsay got her in Fleetwood Mac. She owes it to him. Her Fleetwood songs were fixed by Lindsay. So credit is where it should be. Like her solo stuff was finished by other artists. Tom Petty. She can't do it all on her own. Like Lindsay and Petty can. Far more people deserved to get it The Hall before her solo crap.
@@kevind1931 Stevie gives credit to Lindsey, he is a good guitarist, not so good of a singer, but he flopped on his solo career where STevie trailblazed her 2nd hall of fame. I think Fleetwood Mac was merely looking for a guitarist, but gained the most famous member of their band acquiring Stevie, and I do believe Stevie would still have succeeded in time, or she stated she would finish her final sememster of college and be an english teacher.

@@kevind1931 Well, they hired 2 guitarists. I think Lindsey was a very good guitarist, infact, I shall admit he is one of my favorites next to Skynyrd's trio (from the 70's band w/ Ronnie VanZandt). I do love to hear Lindsey sing 'back up' with Stevie ,that is the best place for him, but he has done some good songs in the 70's he does not have the voice to be a good lead singer (as Stevie does).
Nothing wrong with girl power, there are plenty of women who do very well in life, I do better on my own, I don't consider sucess bragging but from very hard work, I will not give any credit to my ex's but there is a man I give credit to , well a few, men are wonderful!
Stevie Nicks is one of the great song writers and lead singers of all times. Having said that, one can not ignore the fact that she has a lot of defects of character. She has been petty, egocentric, vengeful, addict to drugs and alcohol, maybe envious. A very toxic personality, thats not saying the other members didn’t share similar traits. People do not give Buckingham enough credit for helping Stevies career. People usually associate him with abusing stevie, even if true, i always thought that to be unfair to his legacy.
In interviews I have seen Stevie say some really inappropriate and unkind things about Lyndsey.

Stevie did a lot for the band, she was the lead singer of Fleetwood Mac,last I knew she still is,she also have her own successful band. Ol' Lindsey kinda flopped via his solo career, his voice was decent when he was young, but turned to screeching when he got older. I do think Stevie and Lindsey early on, together , sang well , put out some good songs, after Rumors album, Fleetwood Mac kinda started fading, it was their one big album (successful one).. Stevie's voice in 70's was perfect, it started turning deeper from her strained vocal chords, vocal chord surgery and some smoking.....

I really like the Rumors album and Nicks and Buckingham album the best.

35:20 The people interviewed in this documentary are glossing over Christine McVie's songwriting in the band. Do they not know the majority of FM hits were written by C. McVie? All 3 writers and singers in Fleetwood Mac were very important. Lindsey had the edge on the production side of things, but the songwriting duties were equal between the 3 of them, and Christine penned the most hits.

This is wrong! Mick Fleetwood and John MacVie only wanted Lindsey Bukingham on the strength of his great guitar work and not Stevie Nicks - but Buckingham said 'we're a dual deal or nothing' - so they took on Nicks also.

The way I immediately stopped listening when such a crucial moment and important part of the lore was fed to the audience ASS backwards, in an attempt to make Stevie shine brighter than Lindsey since day one and that's just not at all true. DO BETTER.
