LIPSTICK PICKUPS!!! SORRY
I was like come on now..😀
I'm sure you're more familiar with soapbars than lipstick, so - easy mistake to make 😀🤣🤣🤣🤣🤘
Lol
I love these crazy tests💥 it makes me happy 🙏
you missed a good chance to wear mrs. englund's favorite lipstick ola!
A lot of Slayer's music actually has a vaguely surfy sound, but like evil surf with sharks trying to kill you
Black metal played on clean electric sounds a lot like surf
😆
Oooo...How Cool is That??
it’s like surfing but instead of the ocean being water, it’s blood
I love this Hendrixian concept of using equipment to do things it wasn't designed for. There is always going to be a need for pushing limits for the sake of innovation.
Beautifully put
I know this isn't the reason we're here but that "clean" edge of breakup tone sounded amazing.
It does.. this thing sounds killer. I would make a killer record with this guitar. Those chords rings out incredible.. hear every note as well.. DAMN
@@scottykingdavid A fairly well known old studio trick was to use single coils rather than humbuckers for chord work (even the heaviest of metal) as you tend to get more definition...just get ready to hit that mute button when it feeds back like a bitch!
@@JGStonedRaider of course. I have done it myself. With a old univox. Like a mosrite. And the other track a Les Paul. Two tracks each.. killer tone. Your right.. sometimes turning 90degrees away. Angle from the speakers help with the feed back. Or if the cab is in another room sometimes. But I hear ya
Im starting to think single coils through a mesa are the move
Seriously.
Should try out a Danelectro baritone, because they are a full 30inch scale length, so you can get super modern metal low, they are reasonably priced and I have heard good things about them.
They where sold out at thomann
Now all Shoegaze Djent bands will use them instead of Bass VIs xD
Yup! Love the baritones. I put a baritone neck on a Tele, and MAN, it t twangs
Maybe a different series,to ask if a baritone guitar will chug is kinda stupid
What? You mean to tell me there was a 30in scale length thing for the same price as a Bass VI that I'm not going to probably end up dumping $300 of parts in just to get the low E to function? I feel dumb.
This makes me want to start a metal band only using these guitars
Danelectica
I'm in a punk band and I only use the dc59x12 it's absolutely savage through a screaming hot amp
There’s a alternative metal song by three days grace where the guitarist uses one in a song…. 3days grace I am machine
This is the best kind of “will it chug” video! When we’re not sure if it actually will or not haha
Well... He put it in a mesa amp..... Soooo idk...
Any guitar is gonna chug with a Mesa Recti
And it eventually does
The amount of high gain amps Ola has... he can make an acoustic guitar chug.
For real though you can plug a semi acoustic without any fixed pickup into a blackstar amp even and make it chug. This is a no brainer
My eyes see "rockabilly"
My ears hear "slayer"
I think I'm having a stroke
😅😂🤣
Imagine seeing Slayer with this guitars on stage
@@niklasschmid9123 They wouldn’t dare😅🤘🏼
When I see these guitars it makes me think of grungy, cheap, pawn shop kinda sounds. Sleater-Kinney used one of these (at least there was one on the cover of Dig Me Out) and Led Zeppelin also used these, among some others. Definitely more hard-rock oriented to me. This thing’s got some history behind it!
Ha ha
Boss, that is not a soapbar, that's a Lipstick. The soapbar is the vintage white P90
Single coils sound awesome with high gain amps, just need a tubescreamer to boost the signal and a noise gate to dial out the hum. Single coils sound even better than humbuckers do when you tune your guitar down.
No
@@SxSxG666 yes
Will it chug : danelectro + a old fender amp + a few oldschool overdrive stacked 🤔
That would be awesome.
Throw in a Big Muff for the extra grunge/punk goodness.
I have a 59x with a split coil setting into a fender twin reverb with a jhs bonsai over drive and it chugs very nicely
wow I never wanted a danelectro as much as I do today. That was impressive
I bought my daughter one of these for her first Electric and it has never failed to impress me. There is a reason that Jimmy Page used one.
Mines awesome.
Now I’m waiting for some like hipster metal band to be chuggin on some Danelectros now.
I bet Danelectro would make some badass explorer and v styles, lol
The hardcore scene has been full of that type of thing for a couple years. St. Vincent sigs, Danelectros, Balaguer guitars, etc.
@@SteremyJeele I’ve seen balaguer, but not the others… yet
@@rivalmindss Just a matter of time. Also depends on the hardcore scene around your area. Beatdown guys aren't really doing it, but all the Converge-style bands love that stuff.
@@SteremyJeele oh for sure. Since Kurt was using First Act a long time ago lol. I’m on the borderline, but the furthest I’ve went is a LP JR style guitar lol.
"It's actually not half-bad" high praise indeed lol
breaking news: mesa dual recs sound amazing, yes they will chug
When you want to be vintage AND contemp at the same time, the 59 nos+ does that and more for me. It’s rare that a guitar you’d expect more fit for a 60s Mod Revival sound (which it’s got that to a T) can also deliver a crunchy distorted bar chord barrage from hell, and it does so much with so little. This Dano may not be perfect for everyone, but she’s perfect for me. ❤️🔥
Hi, Ola. Try to use their (Danelectro) baritone guitars, maybe for some future videos. They should probably chugging really well!
I was completely blown away by that thing chugging...never thought the lipstick pickups could achieve that...kudos to Mesa too but damn, a brutal danelectro, I'm just stunned? That color too...fucking gorgeous!!!🤘😎🤘
I knew this would chug when I saw it, but it’s still good to hear it. The pickups are relatively low output so they don’t drive an amp super hard, but if you get enough gain otherwise, they have a glorious midrange sound that works great for chunky, chuggy tones
I would love if Solar got into these style of Guitars alongside their current models. Some funny, cool different body style and shapes but with a modern take on it would be KILLER! Kinda like Eastwood and Airline Guitars.
As a critic I can confirm that this series is, indeed, worthy of acclaim
Critical acclaim you say?
Nothing feels or sounds like a Dano! Underrated guitars for metal
I’ve actually used one in my metal party band. Those lipstick pick ups sound amazing and for the price … Bought it because of Led Zeppelin, kept it because they’re just so good.
A Solar with this color would be cool !
it will look somewhat similar to Misha's sig
Solar Yentleman NOS
@@faiz1705 yeah a little bit but a bright blue like that man ! That’s the sh*t right there 👌
U should do a lesson on the SCIENCE OF CHUG
That sounds more like a csguitars video
Will it Chug was my first Ola video (I was looking for reviews on the Orange Crush) and I was hooked instantly
Love these guitars! I have a 'stock 59 & I've found: either keeping the tone control below 3/4ths & rolling back the volume or swapping to using flatwound strings definitely helps tame the high-gain sounds. IMO it's also worthwhile to shield the entire back face of the pickgaurd with copper (and solder a connecting wire to earth/back of volume pot) as that helps cut some of the electrical noise
Video on you noise reduction hack? Solid copper, or will copper fine mesh work also. I use copper mesh to shield house from my Smart meters.
“SHIIITTT! We have to drop this sucker.” Best line of the year.
Put some DiMarzio hot rods in there and hang on.
Not sure why hearing this guitar chug was so satisfying.
I’ve only seen a handful of videos on Dano guitars… but this thing sounds absolutely fucking insane!!! These have such a weird yet fascinating vibe to them. I think I need one… you can play blues, country, classic rock and now even metal?! Sign me RIGHT the hell up. Awesome video, dude.
I enjoy the skilled players reviewing these on CZcams starting out massively confused, then arriving at the conclusion that this guitar is delightful, weird, and fun.
I was looking for Danelectro vids, and came across this. Gave it a like before even listening, because I absolutely dig this series.
Ola Englund with a blue Danelectro is giving off some strong Dave Grohl vibes.
I saw a band 2 days ago at a festival using danelecto guitars they were sorta a hard rock/punk band and were fairly heavy
This guitar actually sounds fucking great! Worth a try!
Wow. That doesn't sound half bad through the clean side of that Mesa. I'm genuinely shocked! 🤯
I wanna see how he can make a Rickenbacker 360 chug.
It's possible, I've done it, and I'm really not all that brutal
Rickenbackers with HI-Gain pickups sound pretty good with distortion, it's what The Jam used to use (I know they're not a metal band but they did play hi gain 80s punk). I don't know why people think they're only good for cleans.
@@gilbertotoledo1421 I know, but it would still be interesting to see what a metalhead can do with it. Because even though a Ric can sound good with gain, it's almost never used for technical metal playing.
The most distorted sound I've ever heard with a Ric was along the lines of The Cult or Queen.
Kick Ass! I have wanted one of theses for over 25 years since I was a kid and didn’t even know they still made them . Thank you Ola
Danelectro is constantly in and out of production, so you just have to get them while you can. If you want a new one.
With great amps everything sounds great
Some of my favorite Heavy Songs are recorded with single coils/P90's
Thrice, Kowloon Walled City, Holy Fawn, etc
Once the gain boost was added, it was chugging like a b@stard! It has the Yngwie type tone with the extra overdrive. I think it would sound killer with some delay for some lead work. The strings behind the nut need a mute though. Excellent video as always mate. Carlo 🎸👍🏼
I wouldn’t mind having one of those. There is something kinda cool about them. That color helps.
I was actually thinking about getting one for a while, just to hang on my wall. They so nailed that 50's/60's style.
They got 12 string versions too! There's also a Mosrite style with twin lipsticks/humbuckers. Really cool stuff! ✌️
actually, i got to this channel 2 years ago because of a will it chug (Orange crush 20). Huge fan since then.
I saw some Solar guitars on instagram before and always loved them. On Ola´s Videos i alwas thought "Damn he got many of that Solar Guitars, guess he´s an artist or something" hahahha
Took me about a month until i knew he owns Solar :D
Love your content, man. Be cool on the guitar chug reviews if you'd plug in a favourite Solar or Jackson at the end as a comparison. Since the tone is so influenced by amp/cab/mics etc.
My faith in Danelectro is restored, now see if you can do the baritone, and drop F that thing. And dang, those pickups have some noise.
I love those things. Still hope Danelectro will, one day, finally reissue the Mod7 (the 7 strings they built around ‘99).
I came back to this video and damn I fucking want one. Would be sick for the heavies as well as big chords, cleans, etc. I imagine this in a clean setting in the studio would be super lovely too!
Danelectro makes some killer Baritones. Also, you should legit do some of those retro Dano paint colors on the Solars.
The only way I can describe the sound of those pickups over driven is they sound wet
Agreed. Have you heard Metallica playing live and if so, do you get what I mean by saying that their tone sounds wet? It bothers me cause there’s something off with their live tone that sounds wet and shitty
Heavily reverb drenched tone comes to mind when I hear the descriptor "wet"...like surf music, or most of the digital delay and chorus soaked glam bands from the hairy scary 80s. I thought the Dano sounded more nasal...you know, like Neil Young's whiny hippy vocals from the early 70s? Now imagine that soul grating annoying sound, but with a midrange heavy microphone pointed directly at Neil's left nostril at point blank range...like that!
@@celticfury7328 😂
Celtic Fury hahaha yeah but it sounds so weird when it’s a distorted tone. Check out any live concert video from 2018-2019 and you should hear what I mean. The aggressive palm muted downpicking sounds wet in some way. Do you have any idea what causes that? I can’t really find any good explanations online
@@korpmannen8234 was just about to comment this lol
I have played one of these, surprisingly sounds good when dialing in a tone, awesome for surf
This should go really well with a Catalinbread Topanga pedal. You'll really get that surf rock drip!
wrong channel for that, you are looking for "60 cycle hum"
Lovely. I have a Dano 63 and I love to play Punk and Metal through those tones. The OD was cool but I was expecting the TubeScreamer to come out. Just saying.
I’ve always wanted a danalectro, haven’t seen one in the wild in a while
spent the whole video waiting for you to clock that middle position is both pickups in series, so humbucking! did you? nope. overdrive though. classic ola
Jesus fuck, that sounds so good when you play big open chords!
That sounded pretty great!
The badlander sounded cool with the Danelectro
My old Harmony Stratocaster in cream and white color from the 80's is my fav for chugging. Sounds great ! wish i could remember how i used to play like when i was younger . I still got it though! love the vids☺
Danos look and feel like they’re made from offcuts of 50s kitchens, but somehow work.
My first (and only) electric guitar atm is a Danelectro 59M Spruce. I paid $500 for it and I love it. Great to know that it can chug too :3
I have this exact model and color. Love it! At the moment, it's my number 1.
That sounds SO GREAT.
I found a Danelectro 90s U-2 the other day at a thrift store. It looked pretty much brand new, and was about the same price as a steak dinner. It sounds awesome, like an old low-fi radio or something. I'll definitely be replacing the tuners on it if I can find some that fit right. But seriously, check them out. They're a lot of fun, and sound pretty unique.
What’s up Ola.. Love all the way from Pelling.. Keep chugging
Sounds like the Danelectro would be perfect for some Trve Kvlt Black Metal, man! Coulda played some Chainsaw Gutsfuck or The Freezing Moon. 🤘🏻🔥👹
I had one of those in a baritone. The extra noise the lipstick pickups produced were rough with a band though. Couldn't noise gate it so well.
Actually the middle position runs the two pickups in series, not mixed- the middle position is what made me buy one, it gives you this wildly transparent full sounding humbucker. Def has a specialized spot in my arsenal.
To me this is the tone Melvins used on Revole. Wet and chuggy.
Now what you really need is to try out a Danelectro Long-Horn baritone guitar. Those actually look kinda metal with the horns but sound super unique. I've never heard anyone use them for metal but I'm sure they work great for metal as long as you have a good noisegate/buzz suppression system. At any rate, yeah Danelectro guitars just kick ass. They have a unique tone and unique looks and are just super fun guitars regardless of what genre of music you're into.
Holy shit that sounds good straight up
I hardly even knew these guitars existed but damn it I want one now. Nothing cooler than chugging on guitars that predate the whole chugging thing.
Yeah I love this! I’m definitely a new fan!
I personally love the Dano sound, but I've never been big on the body shape.
Same for me with P-90's. They sound great, I'm just bothered by their appearance for some reason that I don't even understand.
@@robwalsh9843 they look like rejected humbuckers, even if they came first
Sounds just kinda like Landmvrks guitar tone, which is absolutely great.
“All for science, fart”
I have to ask, was that edited in or was it the real deal? Nevertheless, I was in tears🤣
Love your personality and your content!!!
håll det riktigt 🤘
It's Ola, not edited xD
The twomad baba had me dying laughing. I didn’t expect that
I've always loved the Danelectro 59 yeeeezzzzz.... I'm gonna buy one soon without a doubt 😍
Ola was so quick to ask if it could chug, he never stopped to ask if it should chug.
It's an electric, isn't it? 😜
I asked and you delivered. Truly, the internet is a wonderful place. I cannot wait to cover Dopesmoker with one of these.
I genuinely was wondering if this thing could chug lol! Seen your video bam! Instant satisfaction!
A guitarist buddy of mine bought like 10 Danelectro Fabtone pedals for whatever reason and just gave me one as a gift, and it's a damn interesting pedal that would be cool to feature here. It's not great for metal because it sounded scooped (in a bad way) no matter how you dialed it in, but the amount of distortion that came out of that thing was obscene.
I have a Danelectro U-2. The originals were USA made. It is a hollow body wood frame, Masonite covering, and as was style for the time Daddy-O Yellow. They were guitars built for the poor man, budget market. They have a unique sound and sound great clean ir riding the edge of feedback while making feedback part of what you are playing.
I'd like to see here some of less known and less apreciated ENGL amps like Thunder 50.
I was planning on buying a guitar just like this (but with a deep blue metalflake finish, instead of baby blue) back in early 2020, mainly to add something different to my collection...then COVID hit and I was laid-off from work. I was finally able to find a new job a few weeks ago and I would still love to get one of these at some point, but I haven't recovered financially enough yet to even think about it. I just hope that I can get one before they stop production on them or inflation causes their prices to skyrocket. I mainly play metal, but there's just something about a few Danelectro models that's oddly appealing to me.
I bought my Baritone Dan-O thanks to The Bunn's demo on it performing some awesome chuggies.
I never knew that it will sounds so Alternative Rock thingy ... Awesome!!!
The more I see vids like these the more I'm convinced guitars have very little to do with the overall tone and gain.
Lipstick attack hahaha .. nice sound .
Dude! I had one of those for my 1st electric! It had a little amp built into the case. (Do they do that nowadays?) Anyway it takes me back! Mine was red, (a much cooler color, I must say...) & sounded like CRAP!! I hate the "lipstick" pups in it! The old ones are going for big bucks now, (if the case is included) NOISE, NOISE, and NOISE! one giveaway I for one won't be doing! Love the new content though! Keep on Chuggin my friend!!!🤘🤘
Didn't know Ola could play cool lead sounds, as well!!!! Everything about this sounded baddass!
You know it gonna chug even with a pillow when there's a stack of amp like that being used
I got one. Love playin with pedals
Single coil chuggin metals tones... ok. Not bad! Those clean tones though. Holy shit! Lovin the low to mid gain tones out of that thing. Right on!
That guitar looks pretty cool actually 🤷🏽♂️
wow that is an amazing sounding amp
I want one. I love the looks
Hey Ola, have you considered giving some different speakers a try recently? Ala 65's, EV's, etc...
I have a Danelectro U2 from like 1999 that is pretty sure made of plywood, but I like it, makes sounds none my other guitars can, but the tuneres are absolute trash sticky / jumpy shit that I should have changed, also needed to replace the bridge wood at least twice, and straighten out the bridge and put something under the middle so it doesnt bend
You're such a philistine Ola. You've got to find the quiet spot when you're using single coils!
Totally didnt expect that.
I love these videos
The soviets had it right when they would make those goofy looking Dan electro ripoffs with 6 single coil lipstick picks ups
