  • Miracle Baby is a documentary film offering an unprecedented look at the process of uterus transplant - from the science behind the procedure to the incredible emotional impact it can have on a family.
After learning she'd been born without a fully-formed uterus (a condition called Mayer-Rokitansky-Küster-Hauser syndrome, or MRKH), Jen Gobrecht was forced to come to terms with the fact that she'd never be able to carry children in her own womb. Then she learned about Penn Medicine's Uterus Transplant program, and embarked on a journey she never imagined was possible.
Follow Jen and her husband Drew as they navigate every twist and turn from transplant surgery to IVF to pregnancy and ultimately delivering a healthy baby boy.

I had to have a complete hysterectomy at age 22 in 1980. I remember being devastated when I woke up from surgery realizing I would never have a child. I called around the country about something called invitro. I had read about it in a USA Today article. An astounding new science. The Dr. I contacted from up North said do you still have your uterus and I said no. He was so incredibly kind to me. I am sure he could sense my agony of wanting to conceive. He said you would have to have a uterus transplant and I am so sorry but the science is not there yet and may not be in time. He was right. As sad as this sounds I am SO THANKFUL FOR SCIENCE and the Doctors who made her pregnancy possible. I’ve felt the agony of not being able to have your own child and wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Well done. God Speed!

Yes. It's so tragic that their daughter died, and much as they intellectually may like the idea that part of her is able to help another couple, it must invoke mixed feelings. I guess it's when any part is donated. It's hard to accept that a younger person has died. It may help to know that your loved one is helping, even after death, but it marks the final moments of any hope of resusicaion of your child. The recipient must feel great gratitude.

Sadly, that is why girls should never get abortions! In their panicked or selfish state of mind that they’re in during the planning of an abortion, they have NO IDEA how much joy they could bring to potential parents if these young moms would just let their babies live and give them up for adoption!!! AND a HUGE benefit to the birth mother would be that there would be no guilt about taking your own child’s LIFE!

We recently moved from Pennsylvania to California and I miss it. I'm a small town girl. Wow, uterus transplant. So sad on one side and such happiness on the other. Good luck. My baby factory is closed, I'd give it up in a moment for some other family could have kids like we did but I guess it just doesn't work that way. 💜✌🏻🍼PS I was told I had a beautiful uterus during an ultrasound lol never really thought they are beautiful, functional- yes. You go through a lot of "not normal" in some of these situations, but caring teams who are personally invested in your success make it all so much easier. I can't imagine the emotions that would come with being told you'd never carry a baby and going through with procedures like these, but I do understand the odd defying devotion of mother's and fathers, and of the individuals who dedicate their careers and lives to helping them achieve the best for their families. So glad to see mom and baby happy and healthy! An update would be amazing.

Just finished the video. There’s so much joy from everyone involved in the creation of this little life! I get a special feeling when I see Dads like this one who really wanted their babies and care so much about them!!! (My Own father never wanted any children, yet he had 7 of them from two marriages! I was the sixth one of his babies and during the whole nine months of my gestation, he was angry at my Mom for carrying the pregnancy to term! Then he abandoned all 4 of us children from his second marriage when I was 5 so that he could marry someone else.)
Anyway, it’s so heartwarming to see the doctors are so happy too! Ive never witnessed so many people working together to accomplish something so very meaningful! That little baby boy is so, so adorable!!! Congratulations, Mom and Dad!

I would love to give my uterus (ovaries and all) to someone who needs it. I have no desire to have children and it would be selfish of me to keep that ability when I don’t want to use it.

As someone who suffered with infertility, this was a joy to watch. I relived so many wonderful memories of my journey that in the end gave me two miracles. God Bless you both for having the courage to go through this not only for yourself, but for all those that may now have a chance at their own miracles! AND God Bless the amazing team that worked so hard to bring this miracle to life! This is such a strong testimate of the importance of being a donor. God Bless the family that made this possible all while going through a very painful time in their lives. May God watch over you all!

Congratulation to mom and dad! This is one of the most inspiring stories I have seen/read in yrs. To go from beimg told you will never carry your own children to finding a doctor so invested in making that dream a reality was amazing! Your doctor truly cared about not just mom and what she was going through and making sure that everything went as smoothly as it could but she also cared about dad. Again congrats guys on making your dream true! I pray you get to have as many littles ones as y'all can handle!!

I think people who haven’t experienced infertility fail to understand that adoption is not a cure for infertility and it is not the responsibility of all infertile people to adopt children. In some countries it’s also not an option, not possible and incredibly rare. In fact where I live I would have more of a chance becoming a mother via uterus transplant that I would through adoption or surrogacy. The way a person or couple choose to grow their family is deeply personal and different for everyone depending on their individual circumstances. The fact that uterus transplants is an option is just an incredible breakthrough, thankyou for sharing and raising awareness.
