From LA to NY, pro-Palestine college campus protests grow strong in US

- Students at US universities protesting against Israel’s war on Gaza have pledged to continue occupying school grounds despite growing efforts by university leaders and police to clear the demonstrations.
As the protests that began at Columbia University in New York spread outside the United States, demonstrators nationwide are demanding that schools slash financial ties to Israel and divest from companies they say are enabling Israel’s nearly seven-month war on Gaza that has killed at least 34,388 people and 77,437 others.
Decisions to call in law enforcement to remove protesters have led to hundreds of arrests in various universities. They have also prompted faculty members at California, Georgia and Texas universities to initiate or pass largely symbolic votes of no confidence in their leadership.
But the tensions pile pressure on school officials, who are already scrambling to resolve the protests with graduation ceremonies set for next month.

As a university student in the 1960's, I'm proud of the fact that I protested against the Vietnam War, which proved to be a total disaster. During that time there were widespread protests across America, not just on college campuses. The protests played a significant role in swaying public opinion, which helped to end the war.
As with then, these present day protests are aimed at ending another of the endless wars the U.S. government (MIC) continually "manufactures".

I can understand why politicians want to shut these students down, just like the anti-Vietnam protestors of my day, because that is just the way politicians are. However, I am appalled that these college authorities call in outside police and even troopers to deal with them. The protests are peaceful. Surely a sensible approach would be to control them by holding talks with the student leaders and laying down some ground rules that would enable the protests to continue but limit disruption to other students. Compromise and discussion do not appear to be part of the US vocabulary. Do they not understand that what they are doing will just make it worse. They are an educational establishment and are supposed to be intelligent for goodness sake.
I am very proud of these college students because they are well aware of what s going on around the world .💯
