    I have 6 of them in my collection of 1873s, all 45. Very easy cooking and nice trigger. Beautiful guns very nice grip finish and brass grip frame really sets it off. I use all my 1873s for ccw in rotation even though I have modern guns there's just something about those single actions, like old cars. Just classic.

    That "base pin safety" isn't for carry; it just slows down curious children. There shouldn't be cartridges in the pistol while you're engaging/disengaging the "safety".

    • @viejo2a
      @viejo2a  Před rokem +2

      Right. Which further exemplifies the uselessness of the feature: if you were afraid that a child might sneak up and cock and fire the loaded weapon, you shouldn’t be carrying or leave it laying around in the first place. You’d only have to unload it later to properly reset the hammer block. If one is worried about dropping the firearm, and thought the hammer block would be a safeguard against accidental discharge that way, you’re in the same boat re: having to re-set it. There’s no point, to my way of thinking. Far better to carry five with the hammer and firing pin over an empty chamber. 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸

  • @laramiecrowder347
    @laramiecrowder347 Před 8 měsíci +1

    This revolver has a floating firing pin. Where it might be slightly safer to carry on an empty chamber, it is unlikely to fire when dropped. This is a way to sell these in commiefornia. They have to pass a drop test. The older smiths had this style of firing pin.

    • @viejo2a
      @viejo2a  Před 8 měsíci

      Thanks, Laramie. This revolver does not have the floating pin found in some of Uberti’s new ones such as the “ Pistoleer”. Rather, it utilizes the hammer-block base pin. In the hammer-forward position, the firing pin does extend through the frame, and may actually rest very close to the case head. If the back of the hammer is hit, and the base pin is in the forward position, it is possible for the firing pin to strike the primer. That said, single-action revolvers are essentially exempt from the California Handgun Roster and not subject to our drop test and other requirements. There are some exceptions, of course. 🤛🏻🔫🇺🇸
