  • The full length video of our time in the Abacos (Northern Bahamas) immediately in the wake of Hurrican Dorian a category 5 hurricane that left utter destruction in its path.
We were fortunate enough to ride out the storm ourselves in Atlantis Marina in Nassau, which received a moderate 50-60MPH winds. When the first images came out of the Abacos we knew we had to help and fast.
Because of our location in Nassau we were only 100mi south of the Abacos and behind the storm while most of the aid organizations were trapped in Florida with Hurricane Dorian between them and the Bahamas.
We teamed up with Yacht Aid Global a US based NGO that works with super yachts and with the help of them were able to reach out to many great companies in Nassau and able to fill the yacht up with much needed supplies.
Yacht Aid Global were able to introduce us to Global Support and Development (GSD) a privately funded disaster response unit out of San Fransisco.
The guys from GSD are nearly all ex special forces with the skills required in the aftermath of a natural disaster of this magnitude. We transported them and all their gear up to the Abacos only 3 days after the eye wall passed over Marsh Harbour.
We spent Nearly 9 days basing ourselves out of Marsh Harbour and doing tender runs to the outer islands in our 43' Everglades delivering aid and medical supplies.
During our time in Marsh Harbour we, along with GSD were able to reopen the Airport to allow almost 1100 flights to return to the airport to evacuate hundreds of people each day.
We were given the authority to be the Marsh Harbour Port Control by the Royal Bahamain Defense Force.
Delivered nearly 7 tons of supplies to Marsh Harbour and the outer island.
Provide aid to the hospital by bringing in extra doctors and paramedics with he GSD team which treated almost 900 patients and triage on another 800 while evacuating almost 300 critical medical patients by helicopter.
Loons water-makers were able to produce thousands of gallons of fresh safe drinking water each day which we pumped ashore.
Our satellite communications provided by E3s and Speedcast were a pivotal hub in getting comms out of the situation on the ground and needed supplies.
    Plus much much more..
Over all it was a very humbling experience and we as a crew we're very proud to give back to the islands we spend so much time in and love dearly.
Loon is a charter yacht based mostly out of the Bahamas please visit our page to see how you can charter Loon and help the amazing people of the Bahamas.

That was a few years ago now, but still one of the most fulfilling things any of us has ever done. We hope we never have to respond to a disaster like that again but we are ready if we are called upon.
