At that part of the poem, Rives begins to quote what other speakers at the same TED conference. He keeps quoting previous speakers (mimicking mockingbirds) until around 3:05.
Rives is absolutely amazing. The way he uses words to play with ideas is incredible. I want to see him live.
To ignore the art of creative speaking is to be blind to a whole new world of creative and inventive beauty.
I come back to listen to this constantly
This moves my heart. Rives is absolutely incredible
he is one of my favorite poets.
My english teacher showed us this. I thought it was awesome that he can talk so fast and not mess up on his words....wow
Brilliant. Thanks for letting me know.
I wish I could see the works he pulled this from to see how it all came together. So love this poem.
I don't think some people realize how amazing this video is...
This guy is amazing! Thank you Sarah Kay for leading me to this.
Someone please give this man the key to the city !!!
Rives is just about as cool as it gets with spoken word.
Damn this guy is a genius I just got my mind blown!
This was amazing. Sounds like someone writing down everything that came to their mind for a whole day. XD
Beautiful
f*cking amazing...love his stuf ..x go rives x
i wish i was as great as a poet as he.

@JPhands It's about uniting our divided world by listening to each other. If he is the mockingbird and his words are the song then maybe his message can reach out and touch every single person he talked about in that poem.
@th3fatalpride when it comes from the heart you dont need to recite, it you just flows out of you.
Awesome
I loved❤
no no thank you ted! that was awsome!
i just noticed... on youtube UK 5 stars comes up as 'excellent' as apposed to youtube USA where it comes up as 'awesome'. i think they should change it to 'spiffing' or 'top notch'. sorry, irrelevant i know. but yes naturally 5 stars and a favorite. stunning performance.
Awsome poem XD
sounds a bit like Woody Harrelson's poem "Thoughts from within"
That just blew my fucking mind lol.
great
WOW
At 0:56 there is a guy laughing, the loudest guy and he is in the majority of TEDTALKs, every year. You can recognize his laugh. Watch out for it.
well... damn.
sorta speechless now.
wow...
daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn
goood gig
I'm glad I saw this after seeing a few other TED movies.
Did he write this on the spot?
Wow
this dudes a rapper
@bailesie
I agree.
anyone know the song from the part at the end?
its worrying how such a great video such as this has only 150,000 views after 5 years of youtube existence. yet we have this crap which gets 1 million views an hour...
Wow! n_n
haha this was posted four years ago
soo funny
woah, what just happened to me?
NOOOOOOO!
It's all about him
It's all about him.
just so you know, you're kind of my hero.
在我看来他说了5分钟驴唇不对马嘴的废话
haha you obviously don't know who Rives is
Why does "Short explanation, hippie parents" get should a good reaction? It's the only part of this poem I don't quite understand.
This is a wonderful poem and there is nothing wrong with it but what's up with the overly repeated hand motion?
I must not be very deep, but I don't get what he is saying.
I'm interested in poetry, but wow, I don't have an ear for it.
wtf was that?
eminem mockingbird version is better
Lame
