Fabulous Trena, nothing seems to phase you , what ever needs to be done you can do it, your energy is also amazing , i watch your videos more than terrestrial television, wonderful viewing, not just the video but all the knowledge you pass on in your speech, thanks for all the hard work and amazing transformations, Norman (England) .
Switching the lattice to the back of the glass just makes sense! Say it louder girl 🤗🤗. Those are gorgeous corner hutches. The curved glass is so unusual 😍
OK you outdid yourself every time I watch your video. Let me give you a left-handed complement. I’m sorry I found your channel because I watch your whole videos and I need to get my work done. Holy Mackerel where did that hour go. You are the master. Thanks
Trena what a beautiful job you've done on these gorgeous pieces! They look absolutely superb! I can 0only imagine the joy the owners will feel when they see them restored again. I also love that you explain the process as you work. Perhaps its your teaching experience, but I have a feeling its because, as I said recently, you're just a natural. Congratulations on yet another lovely job.
Very impressive as is all your projects. I appreciate the time and effort you put into these videos because you do such a great job explaining things as you go. Thanks so much.
🤯 You know how most people bing watch Netflix... my husband and I have been Bing watching John's Furniture Repair lmao and have convinced ourselves we could probably, possibly, more than likely, take on say...a plant stand 😋 with about 40% confidence of perfection!😆 We absolutely LOVE watching you and your artistry come to life, and always look forward to new content being posted!! Wishing you and yours The Happiest of Holiday wishes and Blessed New Year!! 🙏
I am making a chest myself , as a beginner woodworker, I really learn a lot by looking at the bottom of furniture and or inside them on your videos. Thank you Trena
"Now that I've vacuumed most of the sawdust out of my bra" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Great job on the cabinets, glass shelves and lights modernised them, perfect. Love the way explain every procedure as you go, even if you have already dome it in other videos, some interesting stuff going on on all your projects. Good tonsee youunusing the resperatotlr mask and gloves more now, keeping up. Addictive viewing, ( good reference for when I do repairs and renovations, when I need to) Thanks. Phil.
I love your video series, watched many already. I'm learning from you how to deal with veneer. The "hole saw" you used is actually a forstner bit. I love the fact that you point out the use of your dad's tools. I am also a second generation carpenter. Tim
Hi Trena - the only thing I can thing about the wood slats being on the outside of the glass is that if you get stuff that drips behind the wood as you clean it, the drips will only be noticeable from the inside of the cabinet. Beautiful work, btw, and I do learn a lot from watching you work! Keep it up!
I have been really enjoying the videos and appreciate your expertise, your videos have helped me refinish a few projects around the house! thanks very much!!
I loved watching you work on these lovely pieces. We have Vilas maple furniture in our living room, bought in the early 70s, in Emberglow, the reddish mahogany colour rather than the usual maple colour , and I'm very fond of them. Broke my heart when Vilas went out of business. The best colour match I've found, as an amateur, is Minwax Bombay Mahogany for touch ups - which thankfully I've not had to do much, but watching you, I see I've a long way to go re woodwork! A pleasure to watch you and I'm learning so much. Thank you! 😊
Beautiful job! Being male, I’ve never had to get wood shavings out of a bra, but I know exactly what you mean! Really excellent video - love your voiceover.
I too add my appreciation for the time and effort you put into your work and videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge! :) I might suggest for future reference instead of the strip of wood above the glass shelf, adding 2 of your metal shelf brackets offset just above the center back of the glass shelf with a silicone bumper below the ledge the glass would sit on normally. Install the 2 offset brackets just above the top side of the glass shelf (with the screws below the glass) with the silicon bumper on top of the glass, below the underside of the metal bracket. Same spacing idea, the bracket may be a little less intrusive than a wood hold down.
I love watching these restorations. It would be awesome if you could get some of your customer's reactions to a reveal on camera. Maybe you can entice them to be on camera for a little discount?
If I did what you do for a living , especially if I did it as well as you do, I would have a hard time letting go of the beautiful end result.Especially something as beautiful as these two pieces. I am a bit crazed about antique furniture with all the gorgeous hand work that was done on them back then. All the furniture in my home is either vintage or antique, and I never see a modern piece I would prefer over my redone old pieces.
You don’t really notice just how dull and washed out these beauties are until you get them all fixed up and wow. ....Mega difference ! Totally a very awesome rich difference.
I was in Lowes a few days ago to pick up some more of the Irwin Quick Clamps, and was told by an Employee that I must be an amateur woodworker because Pros only use Parallel clamps. I asked him if he had access to CZcams which he said yes, so I told him to check out your page and watch This video and then get back to me on his opinion. I was back at Lowes today and he made a point to come up to me and admit that had been given some BAD information by someone. He was right about one thing though; I am an amateur woodworker (am always trying to upgrade that status), but I do know at least a little bit about what clamps to use for what job. Thanks for all your great videos and also giving me some good ammunition to prove a point to a misinformed person. 😂
@Trena~ Beautiful restoration! Great tip about using edge banding to patch veneer along the bottom of the piece and I also really liked how you used a file to trim the banding flush to the piece. I'm going to try your method the next time I do it! Flush trimming a veneer patch always causes me just a few moments of anxiety....I hold my breath while I "hope & trim". HaHa! The puck lights you added to these cabinets really took them to another level of beauty & function. I bet they look spectacular in the client's home! SIDE NOTE: I literally fell over ROFLMAO Trena, when you said "Alright guys, now that I've vacuumed all the saw dust out of my bra, for the most part...." HaHaHaHa! BEEN THERE, DONE THAT!! #GirlReality #SawDustInMyBra Thank you for sharing your talent and knowledge with us. You Rock! ~~Christy~~
Nice job looks really great. About the molding on the glass doors. My parents had a black cherry secretary similar to the Maddox one you did. The wood grill work on the doors was mounted with the glass behind it. No it was not relocated by someone that was the way it was made. Time period 1947-1954
It seems that with old furniture, you typically discover more problems as you go along. It doesn’t phase you, tho, and you persist through. Not only do you repair what is needed, but you balance out all the considerations- the customers’ desires, the age and integrity of the piece, and most importantly, craftswomanship! Superb Trena!
Happy New Year. Looking forward to seeing your content for the new year. Always nice to bring up one of your videos and ratchet my recliner back and relax while watching a master at her craft. Keep up the good work! 😜
You, young lady have some serious skills and you're a joy to watch. I hope youtube is compensating you accordingly because they are certainly selling a lot of advertisement during your videos. Keep up the good work.
Great job. Interesting fact. Those cabinets were made by my great grandfathers company.. Peppler was my mothers maiden name. I spent hours with my grandfather and see you using a lot of the tricks of the trade. He left the family business and went out on his own when the company moderized and machines replaced cabinet makers. He rebeled and pissed off his father, my great grandfather. Keep up the great work and keep the trade alive. .
Very nice job 👍 yes I like the idea of putting the moulding on the inside The glass you do have be careful when I use to take patterns for curved glass my boss would order one or two extra as the mould they use for making the glass with gets thrown away and it didn’t cost that much more but you have to make sure your pattern for your glass is right boy have l done a few of them a lot for curved metal windows very interesting video thank you stay safe 👏👏👍
I've started using smart Wi-Fi plugs with voice commands like Alexa, Siri or Google Home on most all of my lamps. You can even have any number of plugs switch on at sundown (actual sundown that changes daily). The only time I actually touch a lamp now is to clean/dust or change a lightbulb. Pretty slick!
Have watched a few of these now and always enjoy. But I'm beginning to think that if there's a John (and why wouldn't there be if his name is on the place), that he doesn't actually do very much there.
I am curious about the lighting in the studio. As a professional negative retoucher, I learned quite a lot about light and its effect on how we see color. Full-spectrum was needed in our retouching machines once-popular demand for color pictures, but it wasn't used until the 90s when cool white and daylight bulbs became available. They were put into our machines, one of each, and the expectation was that we would see the colors in both the negative and the dyes we used to retouch them. Then, just before photoshop put us out of business, full-spectrum became available and with only a few employees left, and even fewer clients as they went digital, we didn't bother to keep the business my mother founded in 1957.
I have a cabinet with the wooden strips on the outside of the windows. I'd never thought about it before, but yes, it makes more sense for them to be inside. (Having said that I broke one of the wooden strips a few days ago by hitting it with a ladder. If the wood hadn't been there I'd have probably gone through the glass)
Concerning the wooden slats over the glass: you got me curious about the two cabinets that I have so I went and looked. The 19th century cabinet has fretwork (not flat slats) on both the inside AND the outside of the glass and the current century model also has fretwork but only on the outside. No cleaning of glass here!
Nice job, Trena! 23:30 have you considered using waxed paper instead of newspaper? I installed halogen puck lights inside a glass cabinet years ago, and then disconnected them because they didn't have any air circulating and they overheated. That was before LEDs.
I love watching your work and most of all the end products! But I feel on this one it would have looked better if you put a very fine strip of wood on the back top of the glass shelves. I know that you probably wanted it this way for strength. I do appreciate all your videos and your beautiful work! Thank you!
To keep glass from tipping instead of wooden block just flip metal shelf supports above glass, one maybe two. More attractive than out of place wooden block. Next time.

Switching the lattice to the back of the glass just makes sense! Say it louder girl 🤗🤗. Those are gorgeous corner hutches. The curved glass is so unusual 😍
Lol right!
It was common in Germany before the First World War. My great grandmother had a buffet that has it.
@@johnsfurniturerepair I’m wondering, it’s it okay to use liquid nails or loctite to repair chairs?
Why bother having the lattice at all , it blocks the viewing of what's inside .
Nice to see you using a respirator. Cabinet looks amazing! absolutely, amazing! !
OK you outdid yourself every time I watch your video. Let me give you a left-handed complement. I’m sorry I found your channel because I watch your whole videos and I need to get my work done. Holy Mackerel where did that hour go. You are the master. Thanks

I love your video series, watched many already. I'm learning from you how to deal with veneer. The "hole saw" you used is actually a forstner bit. I love the fact that you point out the use of your dad's tools. I am also a second generation carpenter. Tim
Yes a giant expensive forstner bit but they make the nicest cuts. Cheers
Hi Trena - the only thing I can thing about the wood slats being on the outside of the glass is that if you get stuff that drips behind the wood as you clean it, the drips will only be noticeable from the inside of the cabinet. Great job Trenna. As usual. (From Australia)

Another expertly done piece!!
Absolutely fantastic job,,you’re a genius with wood refinishing,,,,,,,,beautiful
Stunning! Not my style but it looks so much richer with the red toned down a bit! You are a genius!
Fabulous work! My goodness, so pretty from the hands of a master. Reversing the door grates is genius. Who else would have thought of that?
Wow. Those look beautiful. I like the technique of rasping off the patch on the bottom strip repair.
Beautiful work. And so much work! I hope you were paid well for this.

Thank you again for a brilliant video. The use of iron on edging to repair the veneer is inspired! A beautiful result 👏👏

Awesome! My Star Wars collection would look great in those.

Yes, if you can film more customer reactions, or even when you first meet with a customer, and discuss what they want, that would be so cool.

My mom had a cabinet just like these only had doors with glass but no slats. And had a table and 6 chairs
Was watching another refinished using freezer paper where you used newspaper under your curved piece. Seemed to work great for him
Yes also another great idea. Thanks!
I've seen Tom Johnson use brown shiny parcel tape on many of his veneer blocks to stop glue sticking. Seems to be cheap and effective.
