I realized this myself recently upgrading from Atom amp to Asgard 3 (discrete). The atom is so energetic and makes the transients and bass hit harder, but it's that sound wall effect right at the ears whereas the Asgard 3 have a soundstage and pushes the bass to the sides. Listening to Jazz on the Asgard 3 is very enveloping as there's depth in the sound stage.
Hi nice vid I'm new to audio gear. I was gifted a Fluance RT 82 TT so I thought I'd give vinyl a try. Since the RT 82 does not have a preamp wouid this Schiit device be a decent choice for me to use the RT 82 with either powered speakers or headphones? Thank you.
I enjoyed this review very much thank you! For someone who is just coming into the hobby, what stack would you suggest? Mind you a stack that would drive everything but would last for a while (end-game😅) before being replaced for something better.
I have a Fluance RT85 hooked up to a Schitt Mani. Which has a long RCA cord hooked up to some Edifier powered speakers. I need to know how to start using headphones. My Mani does not have headphone connection. Do I go RT85 to Mani to Magni to Edifier? And plug my headphones into the Magni? Is that how that works? And if so, would that decrease sound quality of my records in the powered speakers bc if the additional piece of equipment added?
I am fairly new to amps and dacs so I have a question what would be the difference between the magni+ and the magni+ heretic? I will be using the beyerdynamic 990 pros and was wondering what would be the best for them
I recommend the Asgard 3 with the Beyer DT 990. The Asgard 3 really makes the Beyer headphones shine. Also noticed a significant improvement with the DT 880 600 ohm compared to the Magni 3+.
Good video. If you (or someone) please 🙏 make me understand what a DAC can do for someone that has no plans on using a PC for anything. I have gaming consoles and a Sony STR-DH790 receiver that I run my smart TV (with Spotify and Amazon Music) and my PS5, etc. Would this benefit my headphones with this setup or a better question is how would I even set this up? I'm assuming I would plug my headphones into this and then hook this up somehow to the back of my Sony receiver? I'm lost and can't seem to find the answer without the answer including a PC. My headphones are coming the Senn 6XX and the Hifiman Sundara's. both over 200ohms.. I believe the latter are 300ohms. please help. 🙏
The PS5 does not have optical out, so you could use the TV optical out to a DAC or use and HDMI through box with an optical output. What a DAC can do is better convert the audio into an analog signal that can then be used for a good amplifier like the Magni + or something else. You might also could use the analog output of the Sony TV to the amp, but that uses the internal converter. A Modi even is a much better designed converter than one in the TV. And yes, an amp will always be better with the headphones you mentioned. I hope this makes sense.
@@stereoazimuth sort of. I was hoping that the dac itself could power the headphones with it's built in amp. I'm trying to just get decent sound with minimal new gadgets. wishing my a/v receiver had more headphone juice. speaking of, so if I have 300ohm headphones, that would be easier for it to power because it's a lot of ohms? I remember just last week being told that you want low ohms in headphones for plugging them into less powered devices.
@mickael486 There are DAC/Amps out there, like the Schiit Fulla, that do both. Some headphones do need more power than others, but for Sennheisers, like the 6XX, it is more about sound quality. There are other headphones, like planars, that are low impedance, (16 or 32 ohms) that are super hard to drive, but those are a different mechanism for producing sound than a normal electrodynamic driver, like in the Sennheisers and a majority of other headphones. There is plenty of information out there if you search around.
@@stereoazimuth I just got the Sennheiser 560s and the planar Sundara's. I've been at this for weeks and haven't found anything that will coincide with my a/v receiver. (I don't have a pre-amp out). I will check out the Schiit Fulla if that'll work.
I run negative gain with my AKG K371's on a magni+ and it gets pretty loud. I guess it is also going to depend on what your source is putting out, I'm using a Topping D50s source.
Vali 2+ or Vali 2 is smoother, deeper soundstage. Gives you a bit of tube lushness without going overboard. I much prefer it over Magni +, even if s not as quick or fast and as a higher noise floor.
@@stereoazimuth thank you! I am between Vali 2++, Valhalla 2 and Magni +. My current set is Sony PCM 50 recorder with HD650 and HD380. I am homeless and live in my car so I was looking something compact to carry daily, so I could plug in the library to listen some of my favorite classical pieces.
@@stereoazimuth Agreed. I've run the 600's on both magni and heresy. Not bad, not the best combo. I agree with the hard transients. The LYR+ is magic. A total godsend for sennhieser. Totally buries my magni and heresy in every possible way.
Would you have him rather talk in platitudes with tons of buzz words like sound-stage, jitter, unfolding, lifting veils, muddy, hollow, and sparkle, kinda like all the snake-oil salesmen at stereophile? The only thing he could have done is measurements but getting that in the weeds would only cause a loss in viewers.
Thanks for the review, cheers, my friend!

Start with Modi/Mani and see. But I almost prefer Modi Multibit and a Vali that would bring much more years of enjoyment.
@@stereoazimuth Thank you for answering my question. I am going to look into them. Keep up the videos. I appreciate the effort you out into them.
Now I'm using hd600 with magni+, I think the magni+ seems to lack control,do you think the piety, vali2 and lyr original witch one is better?
Depends on what you are after. I’d prefer a Piety, but it is more relaxed. The Vali + is going to have more power and likely more resolve.
Magni amps are terrific. Act now while the magni heretic is $59!!! USD on the schiit website. So so worth it for the price.

Or would you recommend the Jds Atom amp instead
@@connernickol4820 I have not hear the Heretic, but my guess it is more sterile and yes I would take either one over the JDS Atom.

should i get a modi+/magni+ stack or a fiio k7? i've been hesitating between those two for a while now.
Did you end up getting either of those?
not yet, i'm still just as broke as i was 6 months ago.
