Hi TCD, I served in Bayelsa, every month we travel 4hrs on the water with speed boats from the community to Yanagoa for clearance😫😫😫.. Always terrifying. The NYSC officials will never come to the communities for this clearance..note we have almost 80% of the corps member serving across the waters in various communities in the state...i redeployed after 7months. Anytime the mention "No life jacket, dont worry nothing will happen", before they finishing saying their statement, im out of the boat! In the waters, boat hijackers hide in the trees attached to the river cliffs, once they attack a boat, they ask all the passengers to drop(inside the water)... Life jacket or Not, all will drop and they move with the boat. I feel so sorry for them, they wouldnt have embarked without a life jack, whether they can swim or not..some waters have no pity for strangers/visitors. a settler may be part of the accident and may not be able to swim but will survive...The water have "gods"

I remember a friend of mine told me of the account when her younger brother died on a family beach trip, years ago. She said he drowned but the body was recovered and taken to the hospital, where a crew worked to revive him . She said that she was young but remembered being very confused because after their resuscitation efforts had failed, the young man was left alone and lifeless on the operating table . She said the curtain was left open and she saw his body. She said as his body layed there it was making gurgling sounds and it looked as if he was breathing a little. She began to panic and went to get help because she thought there was an oversight and that he was actually alive. To her dismay, she was told that it was normal for bodies that are submersed in water for certain periods of time to react in that way but he is no more.
