The two identical diagonal rainbow mugs are from the 80's and absolutely full of lead! They were part of a bouqet from a flower delivery service and were not made with food safe paint/glaze so they contain a LOT of lead. I also have one at my family's cabin I've used since a kid

The glassware chicken is worth that much because it uses an old version of glassworking that was also used for church windows. Really time consuming to make, handmade product that is pretty much a unique result each time. Depending on its age of course. There was a point in time where the simpler cuts and forms started to be produced via machines, thus the flower glas lamp from earlier in the video as well, but the style is still rare and now valued as an antique. These things simply are no longer being produced.

I got an old 1950s microscope for $100 at a thrift shop. It came in it's own very heavy wooden carrying case, with multiple boxes of slides and a few bottles of emulsion? chemicals along with the original manual! One cool thing was that they were using an old bit of newspaper to cushion some stuff in one of the boxes and the newspaper was dated September 21st, which is my birthday!

I love bamboo since it keeps down dust mites (allergic & have asthma), so buy only bamboo fabric/wood if its available & bamboo plant stands make excellent shelves for all kind of things. The light is over the figurine. The big white pieces at the top & bottom connected by the wires are the really cool part! The top piece has a small reservoir of oil that will drip down the wires to the bottom piece. The effect makes it look like a gentle rain with the sun out in a garden 🥰 I *think* there's a pump system that will bring the oil from the bottom to the top piece through the three columns; I never saw my grandparents have to refill the top piece or empty the bottom.

I’ve worked at good will and can tell you that if you go to different areas you will find better things. Go to wealthy areas to get cool name brand stuff, art, and better books, For cheaper prices go to a low income area, go to a goodwill next to a school for more kids stuff. It’s all about what your looking for and what areas you would typically find people with those items to donate. Also never buy any electronics at all unless you test it first. Employees do not test those things to make sure they work. Lastly, most people know this but always wash the clothes you buy at goodwill before wearing them. They do not get washed at the store and you can’t guarantee the person donating washed them. I always wash before donating but you can’t expect every single thing to be washed and ,honestly, there is so much dust on everything in the stores that you should watch them for that reason alone.

A quick tip to thrifting cheap: Most retirement towns are like HOAs, you need to get a permit or similar to have a garage/Estate sale, so a LOT of good stuff ends up at thrift stores. Now I’m not sure why, but there’s regulations on used pricing, so you can get a whole coach for as low as $100 in good condition ( no stains, no bad smell, and no missing legs). I even got a $70 faux fur coat for $5 because all coats were on sale.

The strawberry ‘book holder’ is actually a napkin holder! My family has one shaped like a shell, it lives on our dining table.

  • @justsomejerseydevilwithint4606

3:38 $30?!? My family got one for 250-300 _On sale,_ and it has served us well for like, 5 years now. I've consistently made a double-batch of cookies for christmas, my immediate family's birthdays, and my (Now Ex's) birthday, and valentone's day, all with no malfunctions whatsoever, and peak performance to this day. Unless there was a manufacturing failure, or someone used in a restaraunt for decades or Purposely sabatoged it, that thing should run like new for the foreseeable future of household use. You WILL get the 30 dollars worth, and more.

Use to work at Value Village. Fun fact, if something seems too low in price for the quality is, there’s most likely nothing wrong with it (all electronics get tested). Employees put them out at a low price to buy them cheap after work.

A friend bought something from me at a yard sale for $2. She later told me she looked it up and it was imported and either worth $200 or sold for $200 new. I didn't argue though I know it's a copy my mom bought it from a catalog for probably about $20. I do wish I'd kept more of the original mid-century pieces, though.

So i saw this video after I searched up what I bought at a rummage sale today. I bought a book missing a dust jacket with no print date, no copyright date on the inner pages. Looked up the book with the publisher. It's not worth too much but it's from the 1930s-40s so I now have a nearly 100 year old book in my possession

OMG! That rain lamp! God, does that thing bring back memories from my childhood. No joke, I must've known, at least, a half dozen kids who's parents had that exact same model hanging in there house. Man, those things were everywhere in the late 70's and early 80's.

Advice to find good things at your local thrift: Go often. That's it. That's all it takes. It's 1 part luck and 1 part persistence. Even in the smallest of towns, you'll find cool/odd things. Sincerely, someone who used to work for her local thrift store.

Now that I think of it I honestly can’t remember not seeing it in my house, I have no idea when my parents actually got it.
