In this video, Dr. Shrikant talks about the rubric consolation.
He starts by sharing that if someone is sad we try to sympathize and comfort them. We try to re-energize the person who is feeling sad.
The dictionary meaning of the word consolation is -
A person or thing that is a source of comfort in a time of suffering, grief, disappointment etc
It can be a doll or a teddy that can be comforting or talking to particular person like mother, father, brother, friend etc
Usually one feels sad when he has put in a lot of effort in something.
Disappointment happens in people who are passionate and enthusiastic, who are working really hard and yet fail at it. After that they feel that only their close people would know their sadness and how much it meant to them. Words or statements like - It’s okay, It’s not your fault, Don't worry etc coming from an authentic person makes them feel better rather than anyone else saying it . They feel that others don't understand their pain.

Consolation aggravates:
• Ignatia - These individuals are idealistic, to the book, and looking for perfection in the art, relationship etc. They are so involved that they start having a delusion that they are married. Later when they break up, they are very disappointed and they feel bad. They were very invested and involved. They feel that now they cannot marry someone else, and how much one tries to console them, they won't listen and they will push you away saying “Don't sympathize with me, leave me alone.” Ignatia is from Loganaceae family so they are in shock.
• Natrum Muriaticum - In Natrum Mur there is dependency. They are passionately involved in that relationship all their life, they will do whatever their husband or mother says, so much so that they don't have their own identity. They are very invested in that 1 person so they don’t look anywhere else. If it is regarding their relationship with their mother and now she has expired, they feel “All my life it was my mother, now who is there? No one, I will live with this disappointment. I prayed to god , but he took my mother away. I remember her everyday” No consolation helps them.
• Sepia- These individuals are passionate about their profession, job, etc. They are ambitious, and want to do something in life like have a job, earn money etc.
When a Sepia individual gets dominated, by husband or in-laws, they feel their choice is suppressed, and that they are not being allowed to pursue their passion, profession. There is no point consoling them.
Consolation Ameliorates - Pulsatilla -
Pulsatilla belongs to the Ranunculaceae family. Main feeling of the Ranunculacea family is rudeness. They feel why did she talk so rudely to me. She could have been more mild. But once you ask them to accept the rudeness and say it’s ok, they feel better. All they need is consolation.
