  • Understanding Cemetery Symbols #88 - Another Modern Architecture Example
Periodically I come across symbols and more usual statuary that doesn’t fit into one of the typical categories. In Tui Snider’s book, ‘Understanding Cemetery Symbols’ [tinyurl.com/e3...] it’s under the catchall phrase Modern Architecture. Most of these statues begin in the Mid-20th Century. [1]
This is an incredibly unique statue and looks as though it was made from a photograph. The deceased is Nadia (Trink) Ann Trinkala who was born, in Troy, 1966 - 2011. “She began her career life as a very successful travel agent, which gave her the opportunity to see the world. In 1996, Nadia started her second career path in antique and collectible furniture when she ran the high end shop ‘Nick Metropolis’ in LA. She returned to the Capital Region in 1997 to open her store ‘Trink Furniture’ in Cohoes. The success of this venture led Nadia to upgrade to a larger location and expand with Trink Art Gallery with co-directors Tom D’Ambrose and Bob Gullie. This wonderful Gallery drew huge crowds from around the Capital Region. Throughout these years, Nadia created a hub for the improvement of the art community in Cohoes and the larger Capital Region.” [2]
The sculpture was created by Patrick Pigott, owner of Pigott Studio. He focuses on visual storytelling, making sculpture for classic movie collectibles, commemorative portraits and historical memorials. [3]
This was one of the most unique headstones I had ever seen. If it weren’t for the sculpture I wouldn’t have noticed it at all. Other than the bronze it is merely a truncated obelisk. Looking up the artist, I was interested in what he has created before. I hope you’re finding interesting things in this series and learning a few things too. Please leave a comment and tell others. Thanks for watching!
