KEEP PHYSICAL MEDIA ALIVEEEEE
Don’t you ever tell me what to do ever I’ll lose my mind you’ve pushed me but I will help you then hhh myself I guess.
It will come back when companies start pulling the cloud storage.. the great cloud pull is coming
My media collection is my precious
As an Atlantan. This place is a legend and a treasure.
Also, movies worth seeing. That place is still the greatest video rental joint ever.
Miss the crap out of Movies Worth Seeing in VaHi. I would always walk straight to the employee recommendations shelf and grabbing anything I hadn't seen yet
You’re from Reno, dawg. Nice try….
Was in Atlanta on a 20 hour layover a year or two ago and decided to pay this place a visit. Amazing shop. Picked up some really nice blu rays and 4Ks from the for sale section, including Paul Verhoeven’s Spetters, for a super reasonable price.
Hi. How far is the store, from the airport?
I wanted to go.
@@Pocketrocket-pj1us It’s pretty central/downtown area from what I remember. The airport is decently far out though
Spetters is a deep cut. Disturbing in its own right. I'm guessing they have Turks Vruit also. Excellent taste, excellent find, excellent store.
Thanks for setting the stage for warm vibes and thoughtful conversation...this means a lot to me.
Thank you guys for being so open to this collaboration! You all and Videodrome are important pieces of Atlanta's film culture and we're grateful to have played a part in sharing a little of your story!
Until the bitter end, I rented vhs tapes 📼 Whenever my guy locked his doors, I started collecting dvd disks 💿
I got recommended this video out of nowhere and I got really excited! I have a lot of great memories of going to the video store on the weekends. The fact that I live in Atlanta is a massive plus as well! Once my paycheck gets in I'm heading there!
So glad our video found its way to you! Yes, please pay the folks over at Videodrome a visit and tell them how you found them, we're sure they would love to hear!
"Love On A Leash" is otherworldly.
Agreed! Definitely one of a kind
This video made me miss home. I’m from Atlanta. I always loved this place. I recently moved to Colorado. And there is no place like Videodrome here, and I miss that vibe.
from atlanta.....moved to Highlands Ranch off C470....now in Charlotte
I lived in Atlanta for many years, and I visited Videodrome a million times looking for hard to find films. Side note: No Hard Feelings was really funny.
i went there one time 20 years ago. it is beautiful. it was like seeing a place where there were so many films and listed by so many filmmakers. i'm glad i'm one of those that still buys physical media and i will keep doing it till i die.
What’s great about video stores is you interact with people. You don’t get that in streaming.
Dude, I live in the metro area and did not know this place exists. Awesome! Got to take a pilgrimage !
Pitstop at the Varsity or Majestic first,
I remember the day it opened! love this place
Great documentary. I'm a nobody from nowhere and they carry my movies, so I really love them.
These cultural hubs, enclaves, little portals to the imagination, I miss them. You don't meet fellows online in the same way. Imagine a place like this which also has comics, books, video games. I see they have some toys and knick knacks ... you don't need more than that.
I moved to Atlanta in 2000 (I don't live there anymore), I would then apply to work at Movies Worth Seeing. Their application was your standard job application but they also asked about your taste in movies because I would have to talk about movies with customers. I never heard back from them.
I absolutely love this place! They have excellent taste and are always down to recommend a great watch.
Excellent video!
This was really awesome! And very well shot! Blockbuster filled my middle and high school years, then Netflix came along just after. So, I'm glad that I grew up with it and I'm even more grateful for places like this that are still holding down the physical media fort. I'm about an hour away - I need to check it out! Also, this was really was shot!
We are glad you like the video! We appreciate you taking the time to comment. And yes definitely go give the guys over at Videodrome a visit.
Love this short film!!
I still frequent a video store just outside of Edmonton, AB, Canada and I even just filmed a feature film there last month
What a rad little doc, why the hell have you guys only got 373 subscribers! I'm from the UK but love Atlanta, went there a few times around 2005 / 06 as I put out a few records from a band there called Black Cougar Shock Unit. Looking at Google Maps, the house I stayed in was just down the street from this place. So cool seeing that it's still around, and how they really honed their art. I live in the capital city of Wales and all of our video shops are long gone.
Thank you! We are a small, but mighty team that started our channel a few months back, so we appreciate the comment. We have plans in the works for similar videos so stay tuned. If you find yourself in Atlanta again, come check these guys out they are awesome!
@@RoddyPipersCorneas Been all over the US on tours, I like Atlanta because of the people I know there, Little Five Points and the general culture surrounding the things I am in to (ie. DIY punk rock). Believe me, when you spend 8 months of the year in the freezing cold and rain on an island the rest of Europe despises, anywhere else is magical lol.
Still my dream job.
If you’re near Detroit there’s a video store near Dearborn with a fantastic selection.l called Video Exclusive.
Well done!
Can't beleive David Cronenberg stole the
Title for his classic.
James Woods is great as a sickman who plays Atari Games with a controller in his body.
It's like crazy man, craxy
A really cool piece on a local landmark!
That's a full fat experience, coming home from work, check out the Blockbusters for the latest movie, check out, went home and put it into a PS3.
Scarecrow video is bigger but this place has a great name.
As well, still open for business, despite this guy’s claim about Videodrome being the last video rental store still standing.
@@khogg3581 is Scarecrow in Atlanta? i think they are refering to just atlanta. i live in Charlotte and we have VisaArt....
So cool!
Great educational vid on this business. I love videodrome and it has been a part of my life since I was a teenager and looking for the weirder sides of life!
Yes! Gotta love Videodrome for keeping the weird alive
How cool! Two world's collide! Go Moonshine and Videodrome! Great piece, all!
Thank you! Glad to see a fellow Film Enthusiast and Video Store operator show support!
It's great to never have been mocked for keeping an extensive collection of hard copies. I've lost count how many times people have asked to see a movie from me because they can't find it _anywhere_ whether it be online or secondhand media shops. Disney's stupid "vault" period is likely what caused me to start ....strategically saving... just about everything which would (to this day) amount to a few thousand flicks, most on disc and some on HDDs ready to be plugged in.
Physical media will never expire (so to speak in terms of disc or tape rot) or will require a WiFi signal + subscription. I'll always own it and be able to plug and play. Mirror websites are a good compromise when times are desperate. Why pay full price to see something that may end up being a wet fart?
Addendum ~ 8:52 ~ this is a legitimate complaint from anyone who saw _Movie 43_ which also had big names in it but was so morbid the audience would rather forget about the experience. I hadn't seen it myself other than 6 seconds of a High Jackman scene while I was waiting in line to check out my DVD rentals. (Family Video)
Does every metro area have just one video rental place left? AFAIK here in Tucson we only have one and this vid says Atlanta (literally six times the population) has only one as well. Although here we also have a second store that is primarily a music store but also runs a side business in movie rentals.
I lived in Tucson for 2.5 years (been gone since 2013) im assuming you are referring to casa video????
@@FalloutZombie5555 Yes. It's been around since the mid to late '80s and at one point had two locations. Part of its' survival has been adding a cafe/bar section.
this hipster is intolerable. painful watching him just talk at these guys and spending 30 seconds just re-iterating their point while they stand there and politely agree with what they've already said.
I would be concerned about 'renting' an only copy. Best rent a copy and store/archive the original.
I have 3K DVDs. I am getting more all the time.
Only 3k, did you just start collecting?
First off.....SUBBED!!! Wonderful little documentary that brought back so many amazing memories
Welcome aboard! Thank you so much, we're glad you enjoyed. We have similar videos in the works, so stay tuned!
You haven't really seen bad editing until you've seen Wicked World.
I wish I had a place like this near me. Instead I live in a cinema/cinema culture wasteland. 🙄
thank you mini mcconaughey
Let’s say you rented 30-40 movies a year from Blockbuster as that would be $250 total in 2024.
How much does someone pay for Netflix, Amazon, Disney, Hulu, Max, Apple TV+, Paramount for streaming services a year? And that still doesn’t guarantee they will have that specific movie you want?
The numbers just never made sense to kill Physical Media? Unless the lazy factor is part of it and people don’t want to get up from their couch and put a disc in the player?
Videodrome is a great video store and the last of its kind here to be sure , but all this talk about Movies Worth Seeing and not a single mention about the actual BEST little video store that preceded them all is a shame.: BLASTOFF VIDEO!!
How many video rental stores remains in America outside Atlanta?
🎉
10:30 why he don’t talk with his Real voice. It’s annoying. We can hear his Real voice after.
You don't like vocal fry?
Where was James Woods
next stop.....Decatur CD
VideoDrome the Film huh?
I dont even own a dvd player lol😂
get it for 10 USD
As someone from the lost city of Atlantis, this place is iconic.
@@RoddyPipersCorneas Bell-end
Just in case some are unaware, David Cronenberg is Canadian.
(I like to point that out whenever I can because Canada is sometimes looked down apon by the media but just google, famos Canadians and I guarantee, you will get at least one, 'I didn't know that?' )
Great video. Great store, although the walk through was too short and you guys didn't go in to the titles, or memorabilia. (And that was sort of a tease.)
Regardless. I'm glad these trype of places get the exposure the need.
I wish there was a location, in Montreal.
I used to walk the streets on my day off, just looking for the numerous, (well 20 years ago they were ;) video stores, looking for rare gems, to watch and enjoy.
Cheers from Montreal Quebec Canada
Is it named after the creepiest movie ever, and if so, why?
Because they ripped-off Dave’s Videodrome from Chapel Hill/Carrboro from the very early 90’s. The original and the greatest.
@@michaelgpartridge2384 like, Cronenberg Dave? Lol
I was disappointed by the number of videos in this video store if I’m being honest 😕
To many cuts in first 30 seconds))
Me and My brother visited that store, and were watched like hawks, very uncomfortable for us. just wanted to find some rare documentaries and aussie exploitation films
0:11 thumbs down for this dude trying to sound smart by using a fancy word he looked up 5 min before recording.
All the words he used were normal and common ones. You must have a sh*t vocabulary.
Who is dude who has never scene " I Shot Andy Warhol"? And I just googled Dogma and you can purchase it on Amazon, ebay, thriftbooks and even Walmart... Twit...
Look at that, even in Atlanta, those descended from Europeans have the best taste in art, and are willing to keep it alive.💙
I like videodrome & am from atl but FUCK ATLANTA
Ironically, the editing of this video makes it unwatchable for me. CZcams has been infected with a quick cut virus. It's like a plague.
Dogma is trash
As a queer Yankee...I've heard what the south has to say and it's usually pretty ugly.
Love on a leash on dvd is a sight to behold
Try using capital letters for film titles first letter as not to confuse people 😊
@@MoviesAtTheBar Its an off handed CZcams comment, give me a break 😂
HOW OLD ARE YOU?
Great video!
