This was super helpful!!! We put a baby gate around our computers in the living room and used velcro strips to adhere the gate to the wall... the gate made a small hole in the wall, and when our 2 1/2 year old son noticed it, he ripped a small piece of the wallpaper off. He gets through the velcro part of the gate anyway, so one day i decided to try a new approach- adhesive baby-proofing lock devices meant for toilet lids, ovens, etc. When I went to take the velcro off of the wall it was ripping the wallpaper off, so now this whole little area will be messed up. I'm so glad i found this video so now we will know how to fix this mess (once i finish removing the velcro.) Thank you so much!

You sir, are a lifesaver!! I'm in this stage of wall work in my double wide and have just been using TSP to wash the vog before I prime it. I used a new type of wallpaper that's made just for this. It said you didn't even have to fill the joints, but I put to tight coats, and it kept sanding very low. The reason I did it, vinyl wallpaper will still show texture if all you do is the joints, when you paint it even if its flat, when the light hits it right, you can tell every joint. I have seen people put a very thin layer of mud over the whole wall, but it can fall right off in chips and is very messy. I found the wallpaper at Lowes, made to cover holes and to either paint or stay white. There were different designs, and no loss for pattern. I chose a look of stucco and did my bedroom in a islands theme. It was easy and not that messy. I sold the place, but the couple that bought it said its still holding strong, that was 15 years ago....

I live in a manufactured home and there is alot of work in them tearing one wall down means tearing all walls down for one project the only thing I can say save your money and do it right it may take a long time but you know yourself its gonna get done right if it's an easy fix use what he is telling you shoot I would use all of it it would help out more than just tearing walls down but I live in an older model trailer and it needs to be done the right way God bless everyone thanks for your video it helped out a lot I'm new at this but I'm going to learn I subscribed to your channel and liked your video and left a comment

I have an area where I wanted to remove the strips and paint but I found that the vinyl was bubbling up in several large areas. It was literally almost falling off the wall. I went ahead and took it off and filled the cracks with caulk. Then I put 2 thin coats of paint on it and lightly sanded to remove the fuzziness. I finished it with 2 more coats of paint and so far it looks good. I have been in this trailer for 29 years and I am amazed at some of the stupid things I have had to fix in it. I have found that the holes cut for the toilet flanges were so big that they were barely able to attach them to the floor without them falling through. I had to replace the floor around both toilets and reinforce the floor so the toilets wouldn't rock. The plumbing for the sinks was blocking areas of the cabinets so that a lot of space was unusable. One of the kitchen cabinets was over 2 feet wide but the drawers were only 10 inches wide and 15 inches long. I recently reworked that cabinet and now have 3 times the storage space in it than I had before. Maybe you can do a video about the stupid things that trailer manufacturers do and how to fix them.

I left the wall paper on and had the walls textured and painted. In my restroom I left it along because the vinyl repels water. My next project I am kicking around is installing insulation over the outside walls. Unfortunately they did not have overhang on the roof and they used a cheap fiber material for siding and it started to puff. I put on gutters and glued in drip edge after much research. I had to replace a lot of the siding. It has a sloped roof but with the heat in our area I need more insulation.

Thanks for helping me with a question I had concerning what to do when you have raw gypsum showing!!! I don't have a mobile home, etc. I have termite damage that am getting ready to repair. In some spots, the little buggers actually ate the paper (both brown and white layers) all the way down to the gypsum. I have a few spots about the size of a basket ball that are this way. I was worried I would have to cut it out, but now I know that I can fibafuse and hot mud it and it should be OK. I had no idea if the hot mud would stick to the gypsum.
It's crazy. I never thought of them eating the paper off the drywall, but I guess it makes sense. Of course, they didn't eat the paint, so it looks OK until you touch it, then the paint just crumbles away showing the exposed gypsum. I will have to cut out some of it to get inside the wall to assess and repair any damage to the studs, but in some spots, I think I can just get away with repairing the drywall as is.

We own a manufactured home. My daughter accidentally got nail polish on the striped wall of her bathroom. We used nail polish remover to take it off. However it took off some of the vertical stripes. She was happy because she hates (we both do) the stripes. How would we go about fixing this. Could we paint to get rid of the vertical stripes? Thank You for any suggestions.

I'm removing some batten strips before repainting a room. The previous owner painted over them with a thick rubbery paint. It was impossible to remove them without damaging the vinyl coating. I tore some of the vinyl down to the brown paper while trying to remove the rubbery ridges of paint along the edges. Thank you for letting us know about the sealer products. Can I use the FibaFuse drywall repair tape over the brown paper as well as over the joints? It sounds easier than painting on a liquid sealer. Thanks!

My father and I are remodeling a ‘99 single wide for my husband, little one, and me. I ripped the wall strips off in a bit of an overzealous manner and was left with some rips down to the brown paper. Thankfully, I’d already watched your previous video about PRO 999! I went a picked some up, and I haven’t used it just yet. We’re doing a ton of repairs, so I’m waiting on that particular one. I wanted to ask, though, when I have a small amount of the gypsum showing, surrounded by a patch of brown paper, should I put the tape over the gypsum first? Or, can I put the PRO-999 around it and the tape over to reinforce? Your channel has helped me so so much, and even helped me score a few brownie points with my dad, who is quite the repair expert.

What years had that type of walls? My mobile is a 1978 and it has walls made of thin paneling that the previous owner just textured then painted. I wish I knew how to make them look like normal walls but in a video by someone else about fixing up really old mobile homes, they warned that the support under the flooring may need shoring up if drywall was used to replace that old, thin, lightweight paneling. So I am thinking maybe you are talking about old but newer than 1978 mobile homes.

You can put a good primer on the exposed core, then use heavy craft paper adhered with Elmer's and wallpaper glue. Then topcoat with a skim of finish compound. This is durable and doable with reasonable caution.

Hi KiltedGuy. I know this video was posted a while ago. But I have a drywall issue in my mobile home, and I have no idea who to ask for advice on how to fix it. So I'm SO glad I found your channel, and I REALLY hope you read this, and can help me.
Can you hang new wallpaper over VOG? I have some holes in my walls, but I can't just mud and paint them, because the VOG vinyl is already colored/patterned. So the white mud would stand out like a sore thumb, and I'm not a talented enough painter, to match the patterns, lol. And I'm not sure about painting over vinyl, anyway.
But I was thinking if I could mud/sand the holes, and then find a wallpaper with a complementary color for the walls in the affected areas (like the hallway, for example), I could fix the holes and make my trailer look decent again.
Would that work? And if not, what can I do (short of replacing the whole wall, which I can't really afford, and, again, wouldn't match)?
    Any advice?
Oh, and I subbed to your channel, so I get notifications, and so maybe I can find more helpful videos in the future!
    TYSM in advance!!

    • @ThatKiltedGuyDIY
      @ThatKiltedGuyDIY  Před rokem +1

If you smooth out the wall joints and defects, you should be able to wallpaper it and make it look good if you wallpaper the whole wall. But I would look for a heavier textured wallpaper as thinner wallpaper may telegraph the pattern right back through.

Could one just remove the batten strips and wallpaper over them with Builders Kraft paper and then paint over that? Im thinking yes so long as the seems of the paper don't fall on the areas previously covered by the batten strip. My husband and I have neither the time nor physical aptitude for sanding anything and are trying to think of inexpensive solutions for our new home.

How about the strips that go between the long ceiling panels, such as on my friends 1975 or so Golden West double wide - Fleetwood - I tried buying more strips, as they have pulled out in some places, though ceiling panels have no damage - they arrived cracked, and I was told any from that age would be cracked. Would like to get these strips to go back in place and stay there -

I had originally thought it was regular wall paper so I started to strip it. because there are spots where it is peeling from the wall and showing the baige vynial not v white gypsen. I stopped when I saw brown paper. Can I use modpoge which is a acrylic to go over the brown spots ? Let dry and mud over it. The prior owner put stickers on the paperboard and they had been removed . In general it is very greasy and tabbaco stained how do . I clean it so that I can either paint or add new wallpaper? On a tight budget the 999 is expensive. I have modpoge because it's used for crafting. Clear coat.non toxic.
