Student Creates 3D-Printed Lunch Tray for Special Needs Kids

- Adaline Hamlin, a 15-year-old student at Pope Prep High School in Hendersonville, Tennessee, designed a lunch tray for students with special needs. She enlisted the help of her school’s 3D printing club and, for less than $5 in materials, they produced a prototype. Adaline won a 'STEM for All Award' at a state competition, and has made the printing plans available for free, so anyone can accommodate students who may need a little help keeping their lunch tray steady.
This is the kind of news the world needs 🖤
@@caminherhard6927 LOL 😂 😂
How tho? Some dude or girl creates a "revolutionary" invention that keeps food on a tray and this is what the world needs? You sure? Cause I can think of at least 5 things we all need and a tray to hold food isn't one of them. SMH
Nope we in 3rd world country see this as a waste
The whole worlds needs this :emoheart:
@@aggressiveagitatedgif806 why though?
Everyone is talking about how heartwarming this is, and I'm gonna point out something different. This kid is showing entrepreneurial skills that most adults still don't possess. She saw a problem, brainstormed a solution, made mark-ups and prototypes, all without an official degree from a college or university. To make things even more spectacular, it would fall under the industries of disability/adaptive technology and quality of life improvement, two of the biggest growing and highest demand markets of the present day. This kid could quite literally have a career most multi-million-dollar adult businesspeople only dream to have. I truly hope she pursues a career in that field because it is something that really makes a difference by making things easier for people who face difficulties with certain tasks and it makes them feel more like other people.
I totally agree with you, that she is a step above and will hopefully go places, but she didn’t just see a problem, brainstorm, etc… all on her own regard, it was a class assignment, completed in different ways by many other students as well.
Also enlisting her school's 3D printing club. She's learning how to network already.
@@FFXI_Addict That’s a great point. Definitely something that people 2-3Xs her age don’t do. She’s definitely wise beyond her years. My comment above never meant to take anything away from her, just pointing out facts.
This should be the top comment. I am in full agreement with your statement!
Well, if only 3d printers were available already when I was going to school! All the things I could have probably used it for haha.

I also applaud her for making it available for free. As everyone should with necessities like this! Or, at least, make it affordable. Like insulin was supposed to be.

As a disabled person I can see this design really going somewhere. I use a wheelchair and carrying a tray with a glass is one of the only things i haven't really figured out yet.
Have u ever tried putting it between ur thighs and put the tray over it
@@olman1760 they still have to support the tray and move around if they don't have someone pushing them
The fact she was so thoughtful she decided the idea of making them for Everybody! Good job Adeline!!
Anyone who has carried a tray of food knows how difficult it can be. This is something everyone needs.
Definitely me in university mealhall!
My tremors make holding trays a nightmare, this is such an amazing idea. I love this sm!!
I love seeing kids being innovative like that and want to help others out, good on Adaline!
This child is sooooo kind and her heart is sooo pure
What a nice news! You go girl! ♥️
As someone who isnt disabled I would have loved to have this in highschool, especially the cup holder part. I know its a little impractical to stack trays with that cup holder on it but dang. I dont know how many times I fumbled with my tray in one hand and the cup in the other. Would have been awesome to be able to put my cup ON the tray without fear of it tipping over
maybe the cup holder part can be detachable like using a velcro
@@orbitinginsomniac Just make it hollow. That way you can stack the trays.
theres a few solutions for the stacking imo
Even for non disabled people its a good idea
They just hit glued it to the tray.
Found the guy who has never 3D printed. You always use glue to hold parts together.
So sweet. She started off with kindness and wanting to help others !!😎 Need more students like her. Smart idea !!

I could’ve used this in high school! Never had steady hands. I love this! 💕Great job, Adaline!
What a genius idea, crazy to think this hasn’t been thought of yet, what a great invention
Good for her. When I was a child, we had hard trays that already had sections in them. The kids at school today have styrofoam divided trays.
There used to be real lunch ladies cooking. There used to be plastic disposable cups they put your sidea into. The main entree went in the main section. They got rid of those and now have to invent this.
She made the source files free? Didn't think this story could get any better!
Thats such a good idea dude...genuinely genius
Everyone has talent, you must work hard and believe in yourself to discover it.
This is brilliant!!! Every tray in schools and restaurants should be designed like this! We’ve all had that embarrassing moment where something slides off! I love the drink holder!
Faith in humanity restored. Bravo!!! I definitely could use this.
So thoughtful and the students will love it
The world could use more news like this. Instead of all the crime and violence going on everyday. Thank you for your invention 🥰⚘️
What a great idea, and thank you to this student inventor! Also to the school for proposing the incentive to create.

Haha! I would still need to use these to keep my tray steady. The kid is going to go far because of how creative her work is. This truly shows that looks don’t matter.
I bet so many of us with no special need could also use that tray. That cup holder would be a life saver for so many of us who have to tip toe their way back to the table once they have a filled cup on their tray. That's just a great invention period.
What a clever girl, using small and simple things to make something easier for others. I'll bet she'll go on to do more such things in her life. God bless and keep her. I want to give her a hug.
Omg thats right look at the future of society, and im so happy she was able to help her friends out start her inventing journey yay yay!

Best school tray design ever.
Praise for the student for creating this tray! Praise the school who gave credit to the student! As a special needs student from the 80s and mid 90s, a high number of teachers I grew up with sucked, they focused more on the student's wrongdoings instead. I do wish this student well for her future endeavor!
